Wests Tigers Should just become Wests

Triple M's Mark "MG" Geyer says all is not well in 'Tigerland' and something has to change.

"It's time the Wests Tigers became just 'Wests'," said MG.

"Since they became one the Wests Magpies have been the poor brother of the Balmain Tigers and it's high time it stopped." Listen to the full audio below.

The merger between the Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers took place in 2000.

MG played for the Balmain Tigers in 1993, having spent a year there and understands the history is amazing, just like Newtown and the North Sydney Bears.

I'm Balmain through & through . The magpies were always a shit team through the decades .
Now I couldn't give a rats arse if Balmain got the punt . If they can't pay there bills get rid of them .
Increase the size of the friggin magpie , shrink the Tiger logo , keep the black strip .
If they wholly want to go with the magpie is say great !
And friggin get on with playing footy FFS !

Geyer has obviously taken one too many hits to the head. I would say he has brain damage but you need a brain in the first place for that to occur.

No doubt the cancerous fossils will be lapping this garbage up though.
 
How about sticking with what we originally intended on doing and being an entire new team. No Balmain, no Western Suburbs, just Wests Tigers.

People need to move on from the past and leave the old teams behind. That's what all this board handbag fighting is about.

We are Wests Tigers. NOT Balmain and NOT Western Suburbs. We need to remove the old logos, heritage jerseys etc and work together.

Amen brother!

Hypothetically if Wests did completely take over what would stop Balmain from merging with say the Roosters. Then all the Balmain juniors ie Brooks, Moses, Woods, Sirro etc would end up at the Roosters.

The reality is the sooner people forget the past and embrace the future THEN the club can truly move forward.

This is the latest anti Wests Tigers blast from MMM radio Sydney.

IMO MMM radio has gone too far with negative publicity directed at our club. Their unbalanced concentration on Wests Tigers is verging on bullying.

Mark Geyer is a poor man's Gordon Tallis. Loves hearing the sound of his own voice and is dopey enough to think his opinion counts for anything. Has no brains and no insight into the game.

Maybe he's still bitter about the couple of seasons when he did bugger all on sweet coin at Balmain.
 
The magpies were losers and an unpopular team befor the merge, that is proven . And that is where they will return without the tigers

Lets not buy into bagging the two clubs that merged to form our team.

They deserve to be revered for their role in the foundation of this club.

Wests Tigers are the only future. That is the simple reality of it.

Tigers want to go it alone they will fail without Ashfields support. Wests want to go it alone and they will fail without Meriton, Allied Express and Brydens lawyers.

Wests Tigers is the only future. Fullstop.
 
This is just another example of the Anti-Magpie media bias…..oh wait.

Reverting to Balmain solves nothing, reverting to Wests solves nothing. Lets face it, nobody has ever looked to the Grill Team for insight, why start now?
 
I don't endorse the Magpies call, i'm very happy as a Wests Tigers supporter, but i'm glad someone finally acknowledged the elephant in the room that so many have wanted to ignore for yrs, the junior area. Insane that you have an area as big as that practically neglected. The club doesn't spend enough time in the area. I can understand people being pissed off about abandoning the Tigers, i would be too if it had been the other way around, but besides that he did make valid points that people have been ''whinging'' about for yrs. Now its starting to be made more and more obvious to the public.

Newtown and North Sydney no longer exist as First Grade teams and have not done so for almost 30 years. It would be ridiculous to follow their same path by breaking the Wests Tigers merge. Before long the remaining merged club would be making way for a new club, located well away from Sydney, to take their vacant space. As a former Newtown first grade supporter I think I am qualified to know what I am talking about.
 
The organization would be idiots to revert back to the Magpies. You immediately lose half your supporter base and you're trying to sell yourself to kids up to the age of 16 who have no clue who you are. The board is dumb, but they're not that dumb. A lot of the other stuff MG said has merit though, particularly in regards to the junior area.
