I see it as a proactive move and it sends a good message that the club is not wallowing over recent less than positive events. Daley might not be well regarded with the punters but within the game itself it appears to be quite the opposite.

I concur. Like him or don't, he gets his respect & has a solid reputation.
Hoping Madge's time @ NRL as referees consultant helps as well.

Brilliant signing for the Tigers. As a specialist coach he has a lot to offer and as a player few showed such passion, strength, leadership, committment and a brilliant running and passing game - all the things Brooks needs to focus on to become his best

Anyone who doesen't understand what Laurie Daley brings doesen't remember him playing

There is a difference between being a brilliant player, which I don’t think is in dispute, and being able to articulate and pass on that knowledge. i.e. coach.

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire has reached out to good friend Laurie Daley about coming on board at the joint venture as a halves consultant.

While far from a done deal, Daley's input would be priceless for the likes of Luke Brooks, Josh Reynolds, Benji Marshall and rookies Jock Madden and Tommy Talau as they start life under Maguire.

Maguire and Daley played together at Canberra and catch up regularly. They were spotted enjoying lunch on Wednesday where the idea of Daley spending time at Concord was floated.

"Loz would be an enormous addition for any organisation because of his knowledge,'' Maguire said.

"I talk footy with Loz all the time. We've had a connection from our Canberra days.

"But nothing has been done in terms of him officially coming on board.''

Daley has started the second year of a two-year deal with Sky Sports Radio's Big Sports Breakfast – a role he enjoys.

The Tigers are understood to be one of two Sydney clubs hoping to use Daley as a consultant.

It remains to be seen if Daley is even prepared to return to clubland, but his friendship with Maguire would only work in the Tigers' favour.

The coach who ended Queensland's eight-year Origin series reign in 2014 still harbours a desire to become an NRL head coach one day.

He was in the mix for New Zealand's top job before the Kiwis went with Maguire.

Daley isn't interested in any assistant roles because of his radio commitments, but a consultancy role would allow more flexibility and the chance to work with the players.

Brooks enjoyed one of his best years last season and will look forward to finally settling on a long-term halves partner in Reynolds.

Maguire also has Benji Marshall as a No.6 option in his farewell season, Madden and Talau are both Australian Schoolboys who have impressed this summer, while there is also Tyson Gamble who debuted for the club last year.

Daley has not completed any training sessions or met with the Tigers players.

Meanwhile, the Herald understands the Tigers this week responded to the NRL's breach notices, which included the de-registration of CEO Justin Pascoe because of his failure to disclose a lucrative ambassadorial role for hooker Robbie Farah when he retired.

The club was also fined $750,000 while a further $639,000 – the amount of Farah's four-year post-football arrangement – is set to be removed from the Tigers' 2019 cap.

Pascoe, who only learned of the NRL's heavy punishment a few hours before they fronted a press conference before Christmas, assisted the Tigers with their responses.

Some club officials remain frustrated the Tigers has been portrayed as salary-cap cheats. Under Pascoe, the club went from being $4 million in the red to posting a small profit for the first time in the joint venture's history last season.

At the time of the breach notices some Tigers officials were happy to talk up court action. They have since cooled on that idea and remain more than hopeful a resolution can be reached with the NRL.

New recruit Zane Musgrove pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to charges of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and common assault at Waverley Court in relation to an incident in Coogee on November 24.

The Tigers will spend a week in New Zealand at the end of next month before their final trial against the Warriors.

Welcome to the Tigers Laurie .. maybe he owes us one since 1989 .. !!

I'll reserve my opinion of him since I planted one or two on him in a night club (Kingo Hotel) here in Canberra back in 91, after a slight altercation between he and I .. !!

Hmmmm …

Scoop.

NRL are now investigating L Daley and early indications are that they intend to fine the Tigers for retrospectively bringing the game into disrepute.

No no no no no. Absolute legend as a player. Terrible communicator as a coach. Where’s Pascoe when you need him.

Pascoe hasn't exactly got a good record of picking coaches now does he? Madge is no doubt naming his appointments. Thankfully.

not sure pascoe was in his position at the time taylor was appointed.

Cleary mate. Didn't go well.

The cleary debarcle was a.money grab not of Pascoes making.

We gave cleary legitimacy and he dogged the club

Not employed by the club at all according to that article.

We need a forwards mentor. Halves aren't our problem.
We have had no go forward for the longest time.

Money wasted.

Bingo! This is one reason why I am glad to have him.
Our forwards have been issue #1 for so long. When was the last time we had a good forward pack, 2011! Loosing Fifita and O'Dwyer at the same time ruined us.
Madge at Souths got an enthusiastic team playing hard.

I am hoping that he can do the same at the Tigers. Bring that Melbourne style training with him.

People are Judging Laurie Daley on this origin coaching performance.

Honestly he was a better Origin Coach then Bellamy. Yes he mismanaged the Dugan/Fergusson situation, but we don't have either of those two guys with us.

The fact that he is up with training Pearce, Maloney and a few other Origin halves means he will have ideas and they can translate on the field. Yes the Origin halves never Shined, but they never faltered and were playing Smith and CO who made their game very difficult. Versing the likes of Mal Maninga and a QLD team full of Immortals he still kept the game competitive.

He can draw talent, can coach and is a good rolemodel. Best of all he is a top bloke and a guy I would want at the Tigers.

He also got a series win when others couldn't.

I reckon Daley could really help Gamble.
