Wests Tigers Statement...Mayer Resigns

I think you will find that clubs like the WT need to double there revenue to be competitive on the field, and to build a strong pathway forward.

Clubs like the Bulldogs & Broncos have incomes over $35M per year, compared to some of the lessor clubs being around $20M. Any CEO who isnt delivering/working towards building these types of revenues should be on notice.

Doing the same things over and over will get you the same results!

Mayer seems to have been rather unpopular with the punters going by what has been posted on the forum. Although I found him a little bit to shiney for my liking,I also think he did a fair job considering what he had to contend with, with the collapse of the Balmain revenue stream, the formation of the new board, the funding package from the NRL,the Potter thing,no money,no real training facilities , the appointment of a new coach and poor on field achievements. Very hard to hold your CEOS accountable when most things are broken and you do not have the resources to fix them.

Anyway as I said he was a bit flashy for my liking but I think even Gus Gould would have struggled dealing with all of the above and the continual bitching between the two factions

Robbie will be pleased,,,

About time too. I just never liked him. he always came across as sleezy, self-centered and insincere. Won't be missed.

Are you talking about A/ Grant Mayer , B/Robbie , C/ Geo or D/ all of the above  ??

Im not so down on this Guy, I am a hard task master of things corporate and I know for certain that the success of the role is directly related to the team that you lead and the resources available.

WT is know for being a challenging organisation to work for.

Reminds me of the Brad Pitt Movie "Money Ball" - Financial and resource constraint wise..

The Phil Moss appointment may be a very good outcome for the club.

Mayers so called "resignation" may be part of a bigger picture alluded to in another thread. The Clubs are not happy with the money they are receiving from the ARL Commission and the 12 non aligned clubs may be looking at doing something about it before any more teams are under the ARL Commission control such as the Wests Tigers. He simply may be jumping ship to secure his future? Just something to ponder.

Everyone could see through his BS, our goals haven't been achieved from what he publicly stated. We were supposed to be a top 8 last year, top 4 this year and Premiership next year, which we are a fair way away from all that.

He didn't handle himself well when he publicly bagged our Campbelltown turn out last year in one of the games, you just don't do that IMO.

I'm trusting that this is for the better of our club

Well said FT. I'm happy to see the back of him..

This is the best news in a long time. I'm sure the new board would have got rid of him in the last clean out but wanted him to stay to ease the transition. I said all along he wasn't the right man to take us forward and the board agrees. Let's hope we get someone more professional to take over as our CEO …. one who engages better with the fans in good times and bad. Someone who doesn't come out with such comments as last chance for Campbelltown etc. He should never have been signed by the old board in the first place. I have far greater confidence in the new board to appoint the right candidate. I will watch with great interest. The clean out we had to have has been completed .... Well done to Marina and her board.

x2…

Everyone just needs to calm down. I'm applying for the job.

Don't worry about applying Chris,TT is on his way to Concord massive broom about to go through the place….
First I will start with a Royal Commission into this very forum...I think that some on here under assumed names are from within the WTs admin....eg GEO (GO) with an E in the middle...Willow (Kidwell) quiet yet vocal when needed...Happy Tiger(the NRL rep Greenberg)...Flip,Phil Moss(not seen but reputed to be very good at something)..
TITG,I reckon he is JT,(always taking the pressure off himself)...

TT is going to improve this club immensely, firstly I have to look after the members and their guests...next step raise revenue for the club by marketing it to be a family orientated club, children are our future...I will search for sponsors and deliver a prospectus on why they should pour money into our club and see that they get very well looked after for their efforts..

TT has plenty to do,however I hope G.Mayer can read this and take something out of it to his next job (if he gets one as CEO)...

I'm just crapping on as I thought I would throw some humour into our thread... :roll

Need an assistant TT ? I could help you nurse the club back to health.. What say you? :stuck_out_tongue:

His lasting legacy will be the Grey alternative jersey he brought, until we change it next year.

I hope someone can confirm Jerry Seinfield is ok.

_Posted using RoarFEED 4.2.0_

I wonder where Jerry is and also where the great AHX as well…haven't heard from them for ages..would love both their input to this thread....

Probably having a bit of a break from the rigorous demands of the WT forum…

I think the vitriol spewed out about Mayer is puzzling to say the least ,obviously most here new Mayer personally as the persevered traits of the man were well known ?. I follow this club as close as anyone and what I saw was someone that was moving to the future , the Campbelltown call out was what should of been said ,the signing up to ANZstadium another positive ,the new equipment sponsor another , not being railroaded by Liechardt council another, trying to move forward the Weststigers brand away form the past another , the improvement this year of the membership dept another these are just what I know.
His apparent dealings with the Teddy contract and of corse the Captain dummy spitter affair was IMO blown out of proportion with Teddy the fact that the salary cap is shot is an example, I always find when these movements happen quickly there is a motive behind the action. I do not give a rats if he was sacked or just decided to seek greener pastures ,good luck ,but let's not get carried away with how wonderful the chair and the board are these people are very very limited to there footy knowledge and this is not a good thing . Time now for some new blood for a CEO with fresh ideas and vision …but Mayer has done some good for the club .

Snake.im not to sure what you're referring to about Teddy and the salary cap. I know we couldn't go into a bidding war and pay overs for him. But at the same time I don't think Mayer handled that very well either

Well said!!
Mayer didn't want to pay overs for Teddy, Canberra did… We simply couldn't match them. I love Teddy and wouldn't swap him for both Slater and Inglis. But when you can't afford it, You can't afford it... Simple!! Teddy was also a 26 or so game untested young fella at the time...
He can't control what comes out of the captains mouth... And shouldn't need to defend it. Loose lips sink ships Robbie, If you don't want to get called out on it by the media... Then don't talk to them.
Both Leichhardt and Cambo crowds have been woeful - Amazingly, This has coincided with the team being woeful. When the bandwagoners have no "home" games locally, Then they'll complain further...
As far as I can see, Mayer has done nothing except STOP running this club like a Friday night raffle, And cull the deadwood. He was passionate about the job and we are far better for his tenure.... He will pop up at another club (That will have supporters who actually support, members who buy memberships, And have more money than us) for good reason... He is good at what he does.

The one thing Mayer did for mine was to put Leichhardt in it's place regarding LO. After years of being shafted by those pissants at the council they thought we wouldn't surrender the old girl. Mayer either A: had the balls to stand up to them and not be taken for a ride or B: was smart enough to call their bluff and get a better deal than previously had.

Mayer was maligned, and I concede there were things he certainly could have done better, but he's certainly not the incompetent tyrant that some paint him out to be.
