TEAM LIST Wests Tigers Team v Gold Coast Titans

Team List
Jackson Hastings paid for his own flight to the Gold Coast after Wests Tigers knocked back a request from coach Michael Maguire to have Hastings and Adam Doueihi join the team in Queensland.

It is understood Tigers management raised concerns over the message it would send to other sidelined players if they had just Hastings and Doueihi fly with the team.

Maguire had hoped two of his best players in Hastings, who will return from suspension in round six, and the injured Doueihi, who is also one of the club captains, would sit beside him in the coach’s box on Thursday night.

He also wanted the pair on the Gold Coast to assist with preparations and ensure they had a role to play despite being sidelined.

But the request was knocked on the head by Tigers management amid concerns that it may send the wrong message by flying two players to the Gold Coast and leaving other squad members in Sydney.

That did not stop Hastings though who showed his commitment for the side by putting his hand in his own pocket to ensure he could still play some role to assist the struggling side.

Many believe Hastings and Doueihi should be the team’s first choice halves pairing given halfback Luke Brooks’ indifferent start to the season.

Doueihi has earmarked round 14 to make his long-awaited return from knee surgery.

In an interview this week, Maguire rubbished suggestions he has lost the dressing room.

“I can see every day the attitude the players have. There’s no issue in that regard with morale,” he said.

“We’re in a better spot than people think. We have eight first-graders sitting on the sideline and that doesn’t help. The challenging part of coaching in the NRL is getting through the tough periods when your roster has been decimated and you need depth to fight through it.

Sounds like and madge and sheens divide

Do we know it is the Board? The article refers to Tigers' Management. It should be WTs' management but I agree with management. Obviously someone more in tune with the precedent potentially being set has intervened.

Listened to the dt podcast it was a sheens call. Call made to not play favourite to other players on the sideline. How much support does Madge already have, fair call really

Doueihi should be more concerned with getting himself on the field rather than having his knee cramped in an economy class seat unless he is going business class.

In any event, poor judgement to expect the WTs to pay for those players. It wouldn't happen in my employment.

Then you are an employer who does not think about getting the best results but only saving money

I'm not an employer but an employee and it is 101 this will set a precedent. It is poor judgement and it is great to see Sheens setting standards.

As for not getting the best from employees, using outdated work practices is a contributor to a toxic culture which results in employees not realising their potential. Perhaps some of our forum members should give that some thought as to why we are where we are now placed.

If it is a precedent then it is one that should have been set years ago,a professional sporting team needs to have the best preparation it can get.If Sheens made the decision to knock it on the head then he has made an error imo

That’s how you create a good winning culture at a club (NOT) pay for your own plane flight.
I thought Pascoe had us in a good financial position, obviously not.

Might be unpopular, but the only thing outrageous to me is that the reaction will likely only generate more unnecessary heat for the club/team.

We're 0 from 3 and I honestly only care how the club drop the ball through administrative decisions that fail to address our major obstacles. Recruiting players that promote (bring us closer to) what we're trying to achieve.
My wish is to see favourable or improved outcomes in all areas but presently with building a competitive roster. Filling it with players that reinforce our desired goals/objectives and standards - on the field - rather than who's sitting on the sidelines in support.
Supporters say they want to see us have success in our strategy execution, and the club not paying for players to accompany the team has zero impact on this IMO.
It may be good for team morale but it doesn't really increase our chances to win.
