Very good chance he himself never knew he could kick, don’t recall him ever being a goal kicker throughout juniors. Goal kicking is a skill that can be taught and refined with practice, he has been practicing all off season with a kicking coach.

Brooks has been taking the kick offs for years. Maybe the goalkicking it is part of him taking more ownership and showing more ego.

I said it after the game, he could of been doing this (goal kicking) a lot earlier in past seasons when we lost a few games from missed attempts at goal, which cost us a semi spots.

@Geo says he didn’t kick earlier in his career due to hamstring soreness but the dodgy hammy’s never stop him from making line breaks..
Go figure ?

lol..

2014 Pat Richards
2015 Pat Richards /Slimey Fart
2016 Slimey Fart
2017 Slimey
2018 Esan Marsters 75% that year..

So early in his career who should have he been ahead off..

I’d say ahead of all of them judging by what I seen in the weekend !
Did you teach him in the off season ?

That's next level bagging...well done

but he missed 1 and Doueihi nailed his from the sideline..

In your opinion..

Richards wasn’t that good in the end
Marsters was diabolical
And Moses was meh ..

And don’t come back with stats as it’s the clutch kicks that matter !

Like one's from the sideline...?

No
The ones from in front ..
They’re the gimmies .

Geez talk about a long winded infatuation over a player ..(you)
I applauded Brooks’s goal kicking and asked where it’s been for 7 years .

Are you seriously blaming Luke brooks for other guys missing sitters in front of the posts ? LOL If your answer to the question “does that seem reasonable ?” Is yes , than youve clearly lost the plot

No one is blaming Brooks for other guys missing sitters mate ..
That’s in your head !
What we’re saying is why wasn’t Brooks kicking goals earlier in his career ?
I don’t believe the sore hammy’s theory
I’d say it was due to confidence and Brooks being an introvert .

Mitch Moses doesn't appear to be the type not to put himself forward for the goalkicking duties. Brooks being a modest type would be more reluctant to do so. Up to the coach to know each players' talent. Who was our coach then?

Ouch

I remember when Brooks used to kick,as you obviously don't. He did have hammy problems and was relieved of the duties. This stuff is just vitriol from fools.

I can’t recall Brooks ever kicking a goal in first grade ..
Happy to be proven wrong (fool)

Hey fellas I've been moving all weekend and haven't had a chance to read the thread properly or watch the game. I saw the score, were we that good or Manly that bad?

Both ....we had heaps of ball (probably 70 % ) and Manly wouldn't have completed at 70 %

We had a few real standouts ......Laurie ,Tamou and Brooks was the kicker 5/6 ......when Douehi came on we hit another gear

All the forwards looked good ...damn good trial all in all

As for manly ...if they field that side for 25 rounds they'd be spoon favourites ...2 of their tries had question marks and the 3rd was from a horrible dropped bomb from Tyrone Roberts - ...he was probably the worst performed WT's player

Thanks for the summary Hap. I have the TV plugged in now so I might Kayo it tonight when young fella goes to bed.

Happy to help mate ..hope the move went smooth

My everything hurts but I'm stoked mate. It turned out so good.

Couldn't get his goal kicking licence until he could reach the specific height required ...borrowed Geo's stilleto's

Seriously though ..the more responsibility Madge puts on Brook's plate the better he might be

Why I have always said make him captain ...force him to lead from the front

Liddle gets the 9 jumper, Mbye the 1. They're incumbents.

Simpkin looks good for his age, reminds me of Harry Grant finding his feet in firsts with Storm a couple of season's back. No harm in him playing CC for most of the season. He'll get his shot for sure. Liddle has looked more assured in the trials and is more of an NRL player at this stage.

If Laurie is so good at back I think it'll allow the Tigers to shop Mbye more aggressively as it seems he isn't in our long-term plans. But Mbye will be around our team this year as the 1 I think Laurie may be a bit of a utility as he can play a few backline positions.

I'd give benefit of the doubt to incumbents if we'd made the finals in the last 10 years. But we haven't.

Liddle will start at 9 but Mbye has no business being in the team after both his performances in the past and the way players played yesterday.

He can cover for injuries and no more

So you'll just let 800k sit on the sidelines? Big risk. You can't ignore his cost, regardless of how well one player played for 40 minutes in a trial game against a 2/3 Manly team who are average anyway.

Just a question.

What has 800k got us for the past 2 years - I'll tell you as you seem unaware - not one game as good as Laurie's game against Manly.
I don't care if it was 2/3 a Manly team - at least he looked like a player, a player that wanted to be there, a player that looked for the ball.

Mbye is a dud, a very expensive dud, has always been a dud and always will be a dud.

Unfortunately as it stands, we will be paying for this dud again next year.

Just my opinion.

Some people have Brooks in that category too Gall and yet lifted yesterday. Mybe was not nearly as bad last year - imo - as some make out. Not suggesting he was worth anywhere near what we are paying him but he was as much a victim of a playing behind a dud pack as Brooks has been. He will get his opportunity at some point and then it will be all up to him. There is no doubt he is a FG player but now no certainty to hold a spot.

You're not alone Russ. Finally we have some good, young exciting players in the squad. The blokes who have let us down the last few years will no doubt continue to do so.

He'll get a go round 1 with AD out. Yes, It's all up to him now but he needs to show more enthusiasm than he's previously showed with us.

Enough with the “just my opinion “ Russ..
Stand firm mate !
???

Oh! I'm firm - he is a dud.

That's next level bagging...well done

but he missed 1 and Doueihi nailed his from the sideline..

to be fair that kick took about 10 mins to set up. he did have laugh at the crowd on the sideline though.

Brooks < Doueihi
