What's the highest km's you've ever gotten from a petrol powered car without an engine rebuild?

Mine is 340,000. I sold it because the piston rings were pretty badly worn and I was going through oil faster than my local takeaway.

Had the first model xtrail (T-30)
Went to 560km
Serviced religiously

Then the oil cooler on the back of the block started to leak onto the exhaust..it was a subframe out job to access it so we said bye .. great car !

I got up to 370k in my 91 VN before I got rid of it. I did do a shaft seal and harmonic balancer though. No engine rebuild though. Poor thing copped a hiding. I drove it like I stole it lol.

My Hilux just cost me 3.7k .. cracked head .
Tradie racing up the hill took its toll ?

That's unusual for a Toyota. They're nearly indestructible.

Geez that's good going out of a Commodore. I had a VK back in the early '90s and it started to fall apart quicker than a WT gameplan.

VB's were great looking cars when they were done up. Did you put the Oils sticker on it?

Mate that poor thing copped it from me. I totally trashed it and it still kept going.

Did a gearbox, radiator, harmonic balancer, shaft seal, alternator and it ended up with a giant hole in the exhaust. You could hear coming from three streets away. The poor mans cannon :joy:

Yeah mate .. every car i had , had a sprint sticker ? oils .. ! Oils ..!

Still have the same sluggish 100 series landcruiser. It gets me there.
I had it dyno'd recently and the tech (a very good local) said this thing is gutless. I said no kidding, that's why it's here. Still gutless but better now.
Maybe I should have it painted in Wests Tigers colours.

I have a Jeep and they are a lot better than what the media portrays. In six years all I've had to do was replace the rear shocks. My next car will be another Jeep, love the look and love the drive.

Thinking about getting a Merc A Class hatch.

Depends on your budget Demps - I think Merc are decent, but a bit over rated. If you genuinely like driving - BMW definitely have a better connection and feel with the road. New VW Golf just dropped but they look too vanilla on the outside. If your budget doesn't extend beyond the base model A-class, then consider a Ford Focus - much better 3 cylinder engine than the Merc and BMW for that matter, and far cheaper to run but still fun to drive.

Good advice.

Don't do much driving tbh.
But thinking about the next car.

Don't break the bank for something you won't use that often then - Merc and BMW resale isn't anything to write home about and servicing is expensive - my wife owns a C-Class whereas I run a Skoda Octavia RS - it's cheaper to run than her car, and better equipped. If you're only looking for a reliable 4 cylinder that's decent to drive, I'd test drive the Focus ST-Line which is well equipped, cheap to service and drives well. The new VW Golf would be worth looking at, nice interior but a bit plain to look at on the outside if you like flying under the radar.
