What I know today....Tiger Torch

Thanks for that, TT. I still feel Jason Taylor is in the same boat as Mick Potter, the one whose course has been set by the powers above.

I dunno about others, but I'm a big Jordan Rankin fan. Ok he's not spectacular, but he gets his job done and is serviceable wherever you play him. Great value for money (I assume).

Me too. Don't know if he's winger though.

Great insight from TT, Robbie needs to go. Great player, but hes not worth $950k, its killing the club…Here are some stats I picked up from twitter., they look accurate to me. Our problems are quiet clear...

Tries conceded 2016
0-30mins: 4 (0.57 tries conceded per game)
31-60mins: 18 (2.57)
61-80mins: 5 (0.71)

tries conceded 2015
0-30mins: 36 (1.5 tries conceded per game)
30-61mins: 31 (1.29)
61-80mins: 32 (1.33)

Thanks again Torch. Just one thing if Taylor goes and Cleary heads off to the Warriors . Who do you think the club should look at. ?

I'm going to give my forum friends something to chew over for the next couple of days…
I was talking to one of my mates who is a Rabbits member and one of his mates contributed money to South's a few years ago and still is pretty well high up in the Rabbits camp,he told me that he said to him over the phone this week, that the Tigers are trying to get Toovey to coach their NRL team, don't know when, don't know how true it is,but I will say he was pretty adament that this is trying to happen.....

I'm not sold on Toovey, and would like to see JT see out his contract, however we have all witnessed stranger things than this before...

Have any of you guys heard any mention of Toovey coming to us??

Touch may have heard,if he reads this he may shed some light on it ......

The push for a new coach can be understood from TT''s comments below considering we have 2 wins this season.

Pascoe is hellbent on eliminating any more 'rebuilding' excuses. Both he and Mark O'neil believe our current roster only needs a few tweaks to secure consistent top 8 appearances. This was the message delivered to sponsors last week. Separate one on one unofficial meetings were held with Harry T.

disappointing to hear the coaching staff seemed to have rolled over so quickly. I remember the place was full of confidence and postitivity when the Easter update was posted.

The coaching staff have given up on the year, but don't tell the players because they are very positive. Oops, did I just write that on a public internet forum?

Regarding Farah's contract.

Why would the club risk losing 2-3 youngsters with a combined 20+ years of footy ahead of them for the sake of keeping Farah around for 1 more year. That would be a foolish decision.

Farah or JAC/Cherro/+ few contract top ups?
Pay the man out & let's look forward to playing finals footy again over the next 10 years.

It seems to be forgotten that RF took less money early and this is a back-loaded contract. The Club and not Robbie created this. I don't think anyone else on this forum in his situation is going to walk away from 950k "for the good of the club".

If he cannot do a similar deal in ESL I am thinking he will be here.

I think you will find those stats this year pretty well mirrors a constant, being the field and bench time of Tim Grant.

Maybe Farah will be offered an off field position with the club next year, hence TT 's reference to SOO

The club can't get rid of Robbie or pay him less. I think he will be here next year as well. We can still get use out of him. I wonder if Taylor will be here as long as Robbie.

Thanks very much for the update Tiger Torch, always good to get some "light" shed on what's happening within the inner sanctum. If the club is smart they will upgrade Addo-Carr and consider letting Hunt/Rankin go at season's end. Koroibete is simply asking too much these days, better to spend $300k over 2 years rather than $600k.

No surprise to hear Halatau is finishing up. Hope the Elijah Taylor deal comes through although I like some of our backrow options coming through NYC such as Bayley Sironen and Esan Marsters. Also keen to hear what the club plans for the likes of JJ Felise, Junior Tatola, Jacob Liddle and Obed Kharwin.

I was at the game for the U20s against Newcastle and Obed Kharwin got into the clear and was run down inside 25metres. I was shocked, I thought he had more pace than that.

He's not that quick mate, which is why I'm interested to see what the club has in store for him. He's got talent but is not a winger, with his build I think he would develop into a handy backrower and would consider giving him stints in the backrow now and then train there fulltime in the offseason.

Touch may have heard,if he reads this he may shed some light on it ......

He was asked on Fox earlier this week about the Tigers and said he thought they had a decent team only being let down by the execution of their plays.
I would love to see him get his hands on some of our guys - even if bought in to help out this year.

Have any of you read what some Manly players said about Toovey's coaching? Basically, he has no advice other than, "run hard then score try."

Awful coach. His record was based on the tail wind provided by Hasler. Once that was exhausted, he was exposed.

Appreciate the inside information Tiger touch.

I think WT are one of 14 sides making up the numbers.

Broncos and Cowboys are playing at another level and only major injuries will stop a repeat of last year's Grand Final.

For my two cents worth I feel we should give Taylor 6 more games to show his worth and no improvements then see you later and Clearly to take over if we can afford him.

I heard that IF Taylor goes , Sandercock will replace him. This rumour came from sources at at club at the foot of the Blue Mountains. May be some truth in it , who knows

Excellent update Torch

Both he(Pascoe) and Mark O'neil believe our current roster only needs a few tweaks to secure consistent top 8 appearances.

Look, the results whilst not going our way, the -9 for and against with 5 losses does tend to suggest we have moved significantly in the right direction and yeah, just a few tweaks may be all that's required.

Shame about the whole Seve/Milone thing and I think most of the forum would prefer Addo-Carr there instead of Rankin (even though his last couple of games have been decent)….....the goal kicking thing will be the sticking point though until we can find someone else.

Lovett it is agreed by all bar Taylor can provide an effective 20 minute spell but nothing more.

What's going on there?? Has it become an ego thing or something?

Cherrington has let it be known he will stay with the Tigers but wants a guarantee that he will be 1st choice hooker next year, the fly in the ointment is Farah!

A concern, but surely Robbie won't be here next year??? surely??

Regardless of whether Robbie is here next year, or not.
I still haven't seen Cherrington show anything in first grade that makes me overly concerned about him going elsewhere, unless he can boost his defence and get stronger. I know he's young , but we can't carry ANOTHER defensive liability.
Anyway , We've got Ballin on the books again next year.

I guess I'm more concerned about Robbie still being here next year rather than Cherry's defence (which I agree I'm not all that fussed with either). Just from what I've seen this year, Robbie has a tendency to stunt and slow down our attack.

Willow: Kharwin's fitness / work rate is still a concern. His recovery time / effort on effort is still poor. Long term as stated in previous posts he is seen as a possible 2nd row option, but first must complete successful transition via centre where all his performances ( mainly last year & pre season opposed training) have been poor. He will spend some time in the centres today. The jury is out, purely my personal opinion is that unless he knuckles down at training; maximizes what little genuine pace he has he will only last another 12 months i.e. 1 year 2017 in NSW Cup max.
Liddle vs Cherrington is a vexed question all coaches / support staff are equally divided, I am in no better position than you to offer any objective view. If Cherrington does go to Penrith Liddle appears more patient with regards to making his first grade debut in 2017/2018
I can't go into too much detail re Bayley Sironen as I am too close to the situation. Suffice to say Paul believes he has more to offer than Curtis, who despite continued criticisms I still rate, provided he is allowed to play his natural game. Ersan is similar in many respects to Tyler Cassel and Ray Stone all outstanding attitudes - probably not the right size for NRL longterm. I am so happy for JJ I've know for 3 weeks he was about to debut, he will be locked up for another 2 yrs by early July. Tatola is similar in many respects but has been reluctant at this stage to discuss contract extension - I haven't been given a reason. We have now forced the Bulldogs to go really hard to retain Klemmer and Mybe will formally sign in coming weeks. They simply can't offer what we have tabled for Moses / Brooks, though as previously stated both may only elect to take up the 1 year options in their favour and then reassess in 2017.
Expect to see 2 more departures before end of season….... I really can't elaborate ( 1 departure will hurt..)
Purely a personal view / opinion but shared by many colleagues and 2 ex recent coaches is the sad fact that Asipeli Fine will never get a proper chance with the club. He is an outstanding example of a guy determined to be the best he can be every week.
I do enjoy popping in from time to time, keep up the good work -there are many passionate members / fans on here including yourself who really have a good / objective handle on what it takes to be a successful club. My own objectivity may be blunted from time to time by virtue of being too embedded that's why I try to refrain from posting too many personal opinions.
But to clarify a couple of points for season 2016 I still believe Robbie is our best starting hooker and would only play Cherrington or Ballin if we had another 80 minute player like Elijah Taylor in the team.
I agree with the current Board and would only replace Taylor in 2016 if we could secure Cleary - nobody else.
2017 would be different and to be honest I don't have a clear cut plan B, but I would not have Taylor in charge unless by some miracle we make the 8\. Taylor himself is a very good coach but just doesn't fit this team. He would be a good fit for a less flamboyant roster, he is extremely methodical and dedicated. He continues to enjoy support from the majority of players - with many of the more experienced players like Sue; Grant; Lawrence; Dene along with Teddy and others strong supporters.
Ballin is back in full contact but the prospect of him alternating at 13 / 9 is complete lunacy ( this opinion is shared by all coaches bar Taylor and 1 other)
Ballin / Cherrington may only be required to cover for 1 SOO based on schedule.....don't discount the fact that Matt is a qualified personal trainer and may have more to offer the club down the track!! Yet again another outstanding individual - the club under Pascoe has many of these individuals who hopefully will be the glue that binds the passion into results - enough talk of the 'process', which is an alibi for failure.
