What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

I was under the impression that Balmain held the franchise if the merger imploded.
Just as St George does and Manly did.
Can anyone confirm or expand on that?

The only impression that you should be under is if the merger imploded there would be no Wests OR Balmin.

tiger4ever, it is you that needs to read properly. I clearly said that it was cktiger that wrote "and before the Maggies decide they want to cause some friction they should remember that Balmain is the senior partner in the WestsTigers". He didn't say Balmain were the senior partners in the Wests Tigers, he said that they are. So stop trying to defend him because his true colours have come out and it is obvious where he stands. Some of you Balmain lot are bloody hypocrites because if Wests got all of the WT contracted players you guys wouldn't like that. So think about that before you whinge about some fans from the Wests side of the JOINT-VENTURE who are speaking out about these important issues.

CLARKES FROM THE STH COAST BATEMANS BAY SO YOU HES REALLY A ST ILLA JUNIOR ISNT HE.

MULLANEY WELL DIDNT HE WANT TO PLAY FOR BALMAIN ?

WATERS PEARN-HAVE THEM BACK

BALMAIN PLAYERS IN WESTS SIDE- ASCHURCH - DAV FAFITA - B JEFFREY PLAYED FOR US BEFORE TITANS - ELONI VUNAKECE

So thats 4 players each whats the problem and out of the 21 man squad there are 7 players that you could somehow call juniors. :astonished:

might i remind you before we joined we had won 14 premierships in that grade you guys 3 so whats that saying.

ALIEN READ

oh and by the way all these juniors you rave on about and you buy all these players from outside the district. 😕
Gains – Evander Waitoa (Wellington), Jacob Miller (Sydney Roosters), Marika Koroibete (Fiji), Ratu Tagive (Canterbury Bulldogs after balmain), Teqele Nayarvovo (Otahuhu Leopards).

and it bloody obvious where you stand to.Its 4 players each by my counting so prove that wrong

Lol, how many premierships Balmain have won in the past has nothing to do with this. I am talking about how all of the WT contracted squad players who aren't in the first grade team go to Balmain. It doesn't matter if those WT contracted players going to Balmain are Western Suburbs juniors or not. What I am saying is the WT contracted players should be split evenly between Wests and Balmain whether they are Wests juniors or not.

"ASCHURCH - DAV FAFITA - B JEFFREY PLAYED FOR US BEFORE TITANS - ELONI VUNAKECE"

How many of them are WT contracted players?

You may of been saying that but others wernt before you added your two bobs worth.fair enough too

So your saying for instance if lawrence got dropped he would go to balmain is that what you think.

I thought it was pretty close to fair share give me examples then.

And how many we talking here sheens doesnt drop many players and you talking top 25 squad here to arent you.i cant be bothered looking

The way it is set-up now if Lawrence was to be dropped to NSW Cup then he would play for Balmain Ryde Eastwood just like the rest of the players that are in the WT 25 man squad. It's true that Wests NSW Cup side does have some former Balmain players but they aren't in the WT 25 man squad and are only playing for Wests because there is no room for them at Balmain Ryde Eastwood because of all the players they have taken from the WT squad and some of the best players from Wests' NSW Cup team from last year.

Oh i didnt ever notice that to be honest it wasnt like that from 2000 im sure.

well then if the clubs doing that its not fair and has anyone at the club ever explained why they are doing it.

If they are doing that then we should definantly merge the teams and you should support that if your clubs going to run near last every year.

There must be a reason that only the club would know of why they doing this maybe next year they will go to wests.

last time they did this (i think it was 2007) the wt contracted players went to balmain again

In 1999 we agreed to a joint Venture NRL team, but insisted we would remain stand alone in ALL other grades so we could keep the history of our proud club on the paddock, plus due to the geographical distance between the two clubs, provide Macarthur locals a "Pathway to Success" to the Wests Tigers.

Players were spread evenly between the Magpies and Balmain, 6 games each at LO and CSS. Everyone was happy.

2005, Campbelltown goes from having 6 games a year to 3\. The beginnings of grumblings amongst Wests fans begin. This protest got drowned out however by the fact the Wests Tigers won a Premiership :sign:

Under the cloud of the premiership glory, 2006, 2007 and now 2011 BRET were sneakily made the official feeder team for the Wests Tigers. The Wests side got angrier. I remember in 2007 watching Liam Fulton and and Stuart Flanagann score for BRET against the Magpies at Gosford. Why should us Wests fans be happy about that. The Magpies picked up consecutive spoons.
Now we have to watch Waters, Mullaney and Akeripa tearing up our Magpies.

It was going to happen in 2008 -10 as well if it wasn't for the determination of Kevin Hammond not to see the Magpies win another wooden spoon in its Centenary year. All because the Wests Tigers weren't giving us any of their contracted players. He entered discussions with Canberra, they agreed to send us their over age players who weren't needed for NRL duties, Wests Tigers got scared that they were about to lose the junior nursery they claim but don't nurture. So the Wests Tigers backflipped, gave us players and we made the semi finals for 3 years running, Wests are happy again.

Now Kevins gone, Wests Tigers have again done the dirty on the Magpies and now we have gone from a finals side to one looking like we will struggle to make the finals.

Tell me how that's fair!

Well firstly the reason we play more games at then homebush and now sfs is money we need to get atleast 15thousand ive been told just to break even and like it or not times have changed its got to be run like a business and that what its run like and its successfully making profits which is fantastic.
We arent the only ones manly to gosford dragons to sfs or homebush souths to homebush etc.Its harder for us because we have 2 grounds so and we need to play at leichhardt and c-town to make it fare for both…. atleast the wests tigers have done that.

Look im not going to debate internal issues because you hear it from both sides of the fence as well but it does sound like balmain are a much better run club and some of the wests side have been their own worst enimies. But i dont know enough and i would be suprised if you did either.

how many players are we really talking nobody has answered that yet.

It doesnt seem fair but we dont know the logistics of the business.

If it was my decision i would join both teams and play half at either ground and we have lots of history as well but its whats best for wests tigers which should be wests and balmain combined.

Mate look at illawarra your complaining about 5% of players they are feeding about 40% of the players to stgIll club atleast our club is very close to 50-50 it could be worse mate.

its a second rate comp and until the nswrl make every team field a side its just a farce.

Anyway you always have a gripe about something to be brutally honest in your eyes its wests v westtigers and you havent changed.

Well this thread turned out to be productive :unamused:

Unfortunately it was inevitable that forum members would once again turn this into a Balmain V Wests thread once again. Sad, but not unexpected really.

At the end of the day if Wests stay in the NSW cup, good, if they don't, it will be a shame. Will they be the sole NSW cup side? No way, not as long as Balmain continue to field a team. They're the facts and that's just the way it is.

im just wondering, what would happen if ryde eastwood leagues club decided they didnt want to fund the balmain nsw cup team anymore???

Alien, You are confusing Wests Tigers with Magpies. Chris Lawrence hasn't been a Magpie for 5 Years and should go to a Wests Tigers Reserve Grade Team. At the moment, the Wests Tigers Reserve Grade Team is playing out of BRET. Your argument is stating that if Gareth Ellis gets dropped to reserve grade, he should go play for Leeds in the UK because that's where he played junior football 😕

Also, I can't believe the NSWRL is allowing Western Suburbs contracted players to play for BRET. What kind of idiots are running the game down there???

I would not argue that Balmain is a better run club. The problem is the differences of opinion and interests within the Wests Group. The Balmain half of the JV is just the football club (6 votes). The Wests Group consists of Wests Ashfield (3 votes), Wests Campbelltown (2 votes) and Wests Football Club (1 vote) whom all vote according to the best interests of their respective organisations. Sometimes, there is a difference in interests, therefore on occasions, the Wests Group does not have a unified vote.

Just out of curiosity, why is the Wests half structured in this manner? Does the JV require the leagues club(s) capital? Why didn't Balmain Leagues join with Balmain Football Club and become the "Balmain Group"?

Facts are Facts…
The Players in question are contracted to WESTS TIGERS. Not Western Suburbs Magpies....
If the Wests Tigers Head Coach wants them on Standby for the WT, Or to play for BRET, Or to go to the shop for Bread and Milk...Then that's what happens!!
If the Maggies are so intent on Standing alone... Then Stand Alone???
What's the big deal???
BRET has more win than The WSM anyhow.... Magic, Nu & Davis have barely been on field all year??
Too much of something about nothing!!
