What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

Mr Hammond made effective threats to stop a unified State Cup side when WT were beholdent to them for financial health. Now that is gone and really the threat really holds no water anymore.

Anyway Wests Tigers branded State Cup team which could be sold for sponsorship by the WT merketing department and should garner more market interest as WT is a far more recognised brand. This saves Wests and BRET money as the fees for Bundy Red Cup are cheaper and will allow the joint venture to hold onto players more effectively and establish a firm pathway from NYC to either WT State Cup or Balmain or Wests Bundy Cup to allow proper monitoring and better informed decision making.

Fingers crossed the IC brings in the national reserve grade competition which means the decision is made for the clubs

well then if the clubs doing that its not fair and has anyone at the club ever explained why they are doing it.

If they are doing that then we should definantly merge the teams and you should support that if your clubs going to run near last every year.

There must be a reason that only the club would know of why they doing this maybe next year they will go to wests.

judging by your posts theres a lot you dont notice tiger 4 ever.Come out to the Western suburbs and ill welcome you to the real world pal.It will open your eyes and you may begin to notice more my darlinghurst friend.

Thanks for letting me know that its all starting to make more sense and it what batboy said to big a deal over nothing as usual and as i know and a few sensible old wests fans on here know its always a old magpie supporters starting these threads.CRY ME A RIVER

Facts are Facts…
The Players in question are contracted to WESTS TIGERS. Not Western Suburbs Magpies....
If the Wests Tigers Head Coach wants them on Standby for the WT, Or to play for BRET, Or to go to the shop for Bread and Milk...Then that's what happens!!
If the Maggies are so intent on Standing alone... Then Stand Alone???
What's the big deal???
BRET has more win than The WSM anyhow.... Magic, Nu & Davis have barely been on field all year??
Too much of something about nothing!!

Nice post. Although some of the state cup players are possibly signed just to Wests Magpies or BRET. As you say though, the outcome has to be what is best for the WT. If having a reserve grade team play in front of 200 fans out at Campbo every fortnight is what's needed to cement RL as the dominant code out there, a lot of people aren't doing their job right. How many pages in are we now and it's still the same rubbish - misplaced anger, motherhood statements, and petty mudslinging. You either have 2 teams as the feeder clubs or one feeder team called Wests Tigers. If Wests Campo want to run a senior rep team still, do it in the Bundaberg Cup. There's no way either side should be using the JV arrangement to further their own self-interest.

All this talk and no real answers - if Wests want to go it alone there seems nothing to stop them.
What nobody seems to know is who holds the aces in the joint venture if Wests decide to pull out bigtime.
A message for Alien - yes I was (and still am) a Balmain supporter but also a WestTigers supporter.
Also spent plenty of time cheering Wests on at Lidcombe oval - I lived near there and was happy to lend a voice with my mates who followed the Maggies.
I also believe they should maintain a team to continue the history of the club.
And if you want to talk history then I don't see Wests incorporating anything from their earlier merger with the Cumberland Fruitpickers.

Of course some are only signed to State Cup sides Yossa… But I think this nothing thread refers to the "apparent" pilfering of the Maggies Playing roster...
Which amounts to Moors, Akerpira, Davis and Waters (Even though Moors and Akerpira shouldn't be counted as they are contracted to WT first and foremost)

For me, the only thing that interests me about the State Cup is who/which player will make it into the big time in the NRL. I don't care who wins the State Cup competition ….... no one remembers it anyway. Its all about the players who will make it into first grade ........ most of them don't make it hence why its such a low standard competition. If it was so great, more people would turn up to it. Also, the difference between watching NRL compared to state cup is like comparing chalk and cheese ...... how people, apart from friends and relatives, get so up in arms about it has me beat.

I reckon everything that we do as a club from the grass roots up should be for the betterment of the Wests Tigers. We are in such a unique position ....... the only true joint venture that has been a success ...... and we're all a part of it.

Here here. Couldn't happen soon enough. There is too greater gap between the NYC and FG, that is the root cause of the issues. Fix that and the rest will fix itself.

The way it is set-up now if Lawrence was to be dropped to NSW Cup then he would play for Balmain Ryde Eastwood just like the rest of the players that are in the WT 25 man squad. It's true that Wests NSW Cup side does have some former Balmain players but they aren't in the WT 25 man squad and are only playing for Wests because there is no room for them at Balmain Ryde Eastwood because of all the players they have taken from the WT squad and some of the best players from Wests' NSW Cup team from last year.

Alien, You are confusing Wests Tigers with Magpies. Chris Lawrence hasn't been a Magpie for 5 Years and should go to a Wests Tigers Reserve Grade Team. At the moment, the Wests Tigers Reserve Grade Team is playing out of BRET. Your argument is stating that if Gareth Ellis gets dropped to reserve grade, he should go play for Leeds in the UK because that's where he played junior football 😕

Also, I can't believe the NSWRL is allowing Western Suburbs contracted players to play for BRET. What kind of idiots are running the game down there???

no im not saying that. im saying the players in the 25 man WT squad that arent playing first grade should be split up as evenly as possible between Wests Magpies and Balmain Ryde Eastwood. It doesn't matter where those players played their junior football.

yes you are right about the nswrl not being run all that well. i agree with you on that

I don't really understand these accusations of hypocrisy over the distribution of players. I agree that Balmain people would be unhappy if the roles were reversed, but I see very few, if any, Balmain people in this argument saying that the current situation is best. The general consensus is that things need to change, but I can't see why having a combined WT State Cup would disadvantage either side more than the other…...and the stuff about Hammond is spot on. He cared more about Wests than WT, and therein lies the problem. Wests are more worried about preserving their run of the mill reserve grade club than providing a genuine pathway to NRL success through WT. It's just stupid!

They took over Cumberland. It wasn't a merger.

There is absolutely ZERO talk about the Magpies breaking out of the Wests Tigers joint venture, so don't even waste your time bringing that into the discussion.

Whats the best way of locking in the juniors of Macarthur / Liverpool / Southern Highlands.

Ensuring they have access to all the stepping stones that will make them a Wests Tigers.

Having those stepping stones located in Concord isn't the best thing for the Wests Tigers.

yeah alot of balmain people arent saying anything because they dont need to. they know they are getting a good deal out of whats happening and some will say they agree with whats happening because it whats best for wests tigers but if all of the wt contracted players went to wests magpies they would change their tune (even though some of them would try to convince you that they wouldnt, lol). hammond only wanted it to be fair and he accomplished that but now that he is gone the same garbage is happening again. you are saying wests magpies only care about their nsw cup team but thats not true. they just want to be treated fairly. if wt looks after wests magpies then the same will happen in reverse. its not rocket science
