What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

Have heard this argument going on for ages now, i followed wests & i was born in 1953 so i missed them win the grand final in 1952, I now follow WESTS TIGERS not wests not bamain. Call all our teams wests tigers thats who i follow, end of story. P.S if they had not of merged i would not have seen my team win a grand final.

I agree whole heartedly with this post.

Im originally a Balmain fan and acknowledge that the tigers and wests would both be gone if not for the merge, as a combined entity we are very strong.

I'm always a bit perplexed when people say they want an equal standing in the venture, I thought it to be pretty equal as it is now.

As for things like branding and how we are referred to, I think they are referred to as Wests, West Tigers and of course just tigers, does it really matter.

I also chuckle at people asking for a 50/50 share and than in the same post say their should be 6 games at 1 ground and 4 at the other. Personally I'd like us to play all our games at leichhardt and Campbelltown, but guranteed income of SFS is part of our corporate success, so we have 3 grounds.

this us against them stuff if silly, I cant imagine a more equal merger than we have

Yes mate i agree and it always the ex wests fans(some excluded) that cant get over it and its got me beat why.

And alien if you think balmain fans live in balmain or the areas surrounding that you couldnt be more mistaken we are wide spread but i personnaly know heaps that live out west.Sfs is also close to ashfield if you want to look at it that way.

I agree to an extent but we cant forget the importance of the mcarthur area to keep out Easts and canterbury. It will get to a point where its use it or lose it and if we dont it will wipe the wests tigers off the planet in 3 seconds flat.

What if Balmain was the sole NSW Cup team?

What a silly invalid argument. They both support and feed our great club Wests Tigers. End.

Agree however fact remains whilst Wests supports Wests tigers The Wests tigers do not support Wests junior nursery that is the macarthur area to the extent it needs to.We need to make sure that Easts who have purchased a club down the road at narellan and canterbury who previously tried to build a "casino" at Liverpool keep their mits off.

Within ten years the Westigers will be a stand alone entity either being privately owned or a public company ..the club is pretty much self relant now and with our cut of the new deal with the Nrl things will change and we will also be playing out of 1 ground that's my take on the future and it won't be one of the back to the future grounds either.

Its never going to happen every club buys players from each others areas its always has and will happen theres plenty of examples of that in the nrl and nsw cup.Roosters are a exception who dont have there only junior league but we bought ayshford and more recently miller from the roosters.

Well this debate goes far and wide with opinions from both sides.. Lets put some things aside for a moment and focus on current NSW Cup details

One side in the NSW Cup has:
No Real physical Leagues Club or Solid Leagues Club Money
Already Merged with Ryde-Eastwood (Identity already mixed)
Small Junior Base
No Football Club Membership base
Limited Rugby League following population
Small or almost non existent Merchandise Range
BUT…
survives solely on Wests Tigers NRL Club for branding and recognition of history & tradition

the other side in the NSW Cup has::
Financial Support of one of the biggest clubs in NSW - Wests Ashfield
One of the largest junior base in Australia
Large Rugby League following population
Great Stadium and Training Facilities
Football Club Membership
Large Merchandise Range
BUT....
Has limited recognition in rugby league community as its identity is forgotten and overlooked by not having a strong 'wests' presence in WT via one sided naming references in the Media and opinions and perception of other NRL Club fans.

and the stories go on and on and on. One day when all our generation is dead this thread will finally end and the pages will stop, but until then relax get over it and be proud of the Wests Tigers.

No-one really cares about either Balmain or Wests apart from a few diehards that cant let go, but thats life there the ones who still where the victa and phillips jerseys on game day and havent updated since the 70's and 80's.

Fancy being caught in a time warp oh dear, time to wake up peoples.

GO YOU WESTS TIGERS!!!!!

Let me just pick this apart for a second -

1\. Leagues club money - Balmain put in as much money to WT as Wests Ashfield and Wests Campbelltown combined.

2\. Stadium & Facilities - Wests may have a great stadium, but they don't use it!!! They train and have their admin base a nowhere near the ground. The facilities at Leichhardt are good enough for NSWRL to have 4 games in a day there in launching the season, and to play finals there, and Balmain actually use them.

3\. Merchandise - Who really cares what merchandise range a State Cup team has??? No sane marketing person would base any merchandise range simply around a State Cup team, nor should they.

4\. Football Club Membership - I think you will find that Balmain's membership base (Football club alone) is actually bigger than that of Wests

5\. Rugby League population - A football following population will not want to support a State Cup side - they want an NRL side, which they have in Wests Tigers. No side gets more than 1000 people at any home game.

6\. Using WT - why would you not want to use WT to continue your brand and celebrate your history. Wests didn't want this, Balmain did, and to be honest I think the Wests side of the joint venture dropped the ball here. They had the chance to use the WT contacts and resources to continue their brand but chose not to, its their own fault.

Have asked this before, but it never seems to get answered. What is this breakdown? I am aware that C'town only subsidises the junior rugby league in the Macarthur area and Ashfield pays for the NSWRL team.

All three put the same amount into the Wests Tigers. Hopefully WT won't have to rely on this for much longer.

Wests Ashfield bankrolls NSW Cup & Reps.

Wests Campbelltown the junior league.

They don't all put the same in. Balmain owns a 50% share, and The Wests Group (made up of Ashfield, Campbelltown and the football clubs) owns 50%. Money comes equally from those two groups to WT, while Ashfield puts into Wests NSW Cup, and Campbelltown puts into the juniors.

You're confusing ownership with revenue sources. Yes Balmain and Wests own 50% of the JV each but the overwhelming majority of funds come from WT derived sources (NRL grants, sponsorships etc). Very little comes from the football or leagues clubs of Balmain and Wests.

Sorry, should have been more clear. I understand the structure, what I meant was 50% of the leagues club money comes from Balmain, the other 50% from the Wests group, i.e. they both put in exactly the same

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Unless you have the financial statements of the Wests Tigers and /or Balmain Tigers and / or Wests Magpies, I wouldn't go of sprouting this as gospel

Wests juniors out at campbelltown should be bankrolled by the club(Wests Tigers) blind freddie can see this but some old balmain diehards cant let go of the past and refuse to admit the facts of now and the future that campbelltown in terms of junior talent is a gold mine that few other clubs enjoy.Easts and canterbury remain a big threat as they are trying to create a presence out there. Its a case of use it or lose it guys. Its like having the tall beautiful blonde at the nightclub saying lets dance and your waiting for the ugly girl with freckles to finish her soda water.
