The team is quite often referred to as Wests…

This thread is NOT suppose to be a Wests vs Balmain Fight. Its simply a push for a case to have the 'magpies' brand stay alive in some capacity by being a sole feeder club in a low profile competition that no one evens cares for that much. Its not saying that Wests Magpies should be back in the NRL or kick Balmain away or vice versa. You ask most old time followers of the game (NON WT Fans) who dont even acknowledge a wests or magpies presence in the joint venture club. Think of it in the media: The tigers 'spiritual home' of leichhardt, celebrating balmain vs canberra 1989 grand final re-match at a campbelltown game, not having worn the magpies heritage jersey at campbelltown since 2009, orange and black merchandise with no white, supporters jerseys (at best and less) with no magpie logo, the WT Centenary jersey being exactly the same as the balmain centenary jersey.. if we made the 2010 GF we would have played in the orange strip, if we had a home semi in 2010 - leichhardt was first choice…i am talking about some genuine recognition of the team that i followed (Western Suburbs Magpies) from the day i was born being remembered within the team i love and follow today (Wests Tigers). People both inside and outside WT may not care about it but myself and a lot of others do.

I'll ignore the majority of your post which is just selective dribble and in some cases outright falsehoods (Leichhardt first choice for a home semi??) and cut to the chase:

What you are asking for is 50% of the NRL team (i.e. the Wests part of Wests Tigers) AND 100% of the state cup team name. You seriously think that's a fair deal?

10% of the time 90% the tigers.Anyhow my main gripe is the campbelltown area should get more exposure.I think the solution is nsw cup merge for wests tigers played solely out of campbelltown and wests and balmain play jim beam cup.

If the current NSWRL structure remains, no. If a revised reserve grade competition starts as part of an initiative by the NRL , merge the teams into Wests Tigers. In actual fact, if this does occur, we won't have a choice but to merge the teams. We would not be allowed to field Wests and Balmain-Ryde-Eastwood.

Dtowells - There will be quite a significant amount of recognition for Western Suburbs in round 22 when we play St. George-Ill at the SCG. No doubt the Western Suburbs heritage jersey will come out for that match.

Yes gary and its not the first time we have recognised the wests heritage either but thanks for balancing it out.

I have never questioned whether Wests Tigers have recognised Western Suburbs on various occasions.

I do however question your view of history and the events of 1999 (and earlier for that matter) as well your view that Wests "deserted" its original heartland. You word this as a criticism of Western Suburbs. I could argue that Balmain was also guilty of such an act in its failed attempt to be the Sydney Tigers for a couple of years, but I don't see the point in drawing attention because sometimes, business decisions just don't work for whatever reason and Balmain rightly went back to its origins.

This was not the case with Wests "desertion" of the inner west and moving to Campbelltown. It is a success and this relocation forms a pillar of the success of Wests Tigers. Our joint venture has held off Canterbury and Easts from getting into an area with high population growth. A pathway to the NRL for the area must be maintained and the best method must be finalised. As I said, under the current NSWRL, the two teams should be kept, but be merged if there was to be a NRL reserve grade competition. Balmain and Wests can then play in the Jim Beam Cup (or the remains of the NSWRL competition) and provide feeder in the NRL second grade team if they wish and retain their SG Ball and Matts as feeders to the Toyota Cup team.

Whatever the structure, there should be a direct path for players/juniors in the Campbelltown area to the Wests Tigers.

The main problem in all this is the media and its anti western suburbs agenda on all things which has been going on for over 30 years so when theres a team called wests tigers when they win its the tigers and when someone gets caught for drugs like craig field or john hopoates finger, miraculously I vividly remember that was the first time we were called wests after seven thousand references to tigers. Its like if theres a murder in newtown its transformed into sydneys western suburbs but yet if theres a lottery win in Blacktown its just called sydney. We in the west are the silent majority. We must stand up and fight these arrogant fat cats.

I don't think that would happen because Wests Tigers would want the merged NSW Cup team to train at the same place as the 1st grade team so they can train together sometimes and that's probably how it should be. They should have made Wests Tigers HQ at Campbelltown Stadium instead of Concord Oval to begin with and then they could have trained on a field which they actually play on and they would have the Leagues Club next door! I would love a couple of extra games at Campbelltown Stadium. 4 really isn't enough for the area. 6 home games a year here + 1 trial game would be ok. We seem to get a bigger crowd against Souths when we play at SCG instead of SFS. What would people think about having 6 home games at Campbelltown Stadium, 4 at Leichhardt Oval and 2 at SCG (against Souths and St. George Illawarra - those 2 games would be big money makers!), plus a trial game at Leichhardt Oval and a trial game at Campbelltown Stadium???

Magpie Mania, I agree with you about Western Suburbs Magpies having a team in the Jim Beam Cup, and play their home games at Campbelltown Stadium, if they merge with Balmain at NSW Cup/Reserve Grade level. And also keep the SG Ball and Harold Matthews teams seperate - there's no need to merge the junior teams.

Well hopefully one day it does happen (6 games at Campbelltown Stadium and 6 games at Leichhardt Oval)when we have enough $$$ and maybe when Campbelltown Stadium and Leichhardt Oval have a greater crowd capacity. Atleast Moore Park isn't that far away from the Balmain area, but it's nowhere near Campbelltown.
