Strange. Has their been an offical announcement re Collins?

The only mention of Collins departing is the initial reporting on the findings of the review by foxsports and the telecrap as they understand..

What about Rohan Smith , Brisbane North’s Coach.

Would really like him but dont think he will sign before his Norths contract expires (end of 2023). Still would like to see enquiries made.
I've also been impressed with Brideson, the Wynnum coach and i think he would more likely sign.

Last night , even in a low scoring game , I saw some innovative plays from both sides , and chicanery.
I honestly think our biggest issue is ideas . The talent is no worse than half the clubs running around , but we lack ideas . So if we aren’t getting rid of the main guy, which is fine , than we need new ideas around him.
And 2 other old guys doesn’t exactly scream new ideas .
If we have to import these assistants from catalans reserve grade , it matters very little . We need to innovate . Because any success we have had , has been because of our willingness to cut against the grain .

So you didn’t see a better version of the same block plays that every other team employs?

No there was like scrum plays , deception around the ruck , short side plays that were clearly practiced . Variation to the standard block plays

NRL news: Shane Flanagan and Nathan Cayless headline potential Wests Tigers assistants

Michael Carayannis

Wests Tigers have begun interviewing potential assistant coaches, with premiership-winning coach Shane Flanagan right in the mix.

The Tigers have two positions available to assist Michael Maguire as they head into a season-defining year for the coach.

Flanagan has already been interviewed and he sits at the top of the queue.

It is understood that ex-Parramatta captain Nathan Cayless and former South Sydney lower-grade player Ryan Carr are also among the potential candidates.

Flanagan has strong support from those within the club. The famed review into the club, which almost led to Maguire’s sacking, asked the coach to surround himself with high calibre assistants.

Flanagan is easily the most credentialed having led the Sharks premiership glory in 2016 and finished his stint with a 55 per cent winning rate. He was a St George Illawarra assistant coach in 2020 before joining Fox League this year.

Flanagan wants to return to coaching and is open to providing support to Maguire.

Cayless most recently spent the past two seasons working as an assistant coach at the Roosters. He was replaced by Brett Morris heading into next season. Since retiring at the end of 2010, Cayless has held coaching positions at his former club Parramatta and the Warriors.

Carr played under Maguire during a stint at South Sydney before transitioning into a coach. He was appointed South Sydney’s under-20s coach in 2017 where Pat Richards, who is part of the Tigers coaching staff, was his assistant.

Carr has also coached Mounties and Parramatta in the NSW Cup and spent a season as head coach of Featherstone Rovers in the competition below the Super League.

Ex-Bulldogs coach Dean Pay was also linked to the role.

The Tigers are on the lookout for new coaches after Wayne Collins was not re-signed following the review. The club this week also announced that Shane Millard, who joined the club last year, was also moving on.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have officially unveiled Tyrone Peachey on a two year deal worth about $750,000.

Peachey returns to Sydney after a three-year stint on the Gold Coast.

He could line-up in the halves to start the season given the long-term injury to Adam Doueihi. Peachey, who played three games for NSW in 2018, joins Jackson Hastings and Oliver Gildart as new recruits at the Tigers next season.

“I’ve been really impressed by Madge (Maguire) and the way he approaches the game and I’m looking forward to working under him,” Peachey said.

“I know that I perform my best when I’ve got a strong coach who can keep me accountable and I’ve really enjoyed speaking with him lately.”

The Tigers still have about a $1 million for three spots left on their roster.

For me no problem with any of them as we need quality assistants that know how to win.. I would give Flanagan 1 of the positions and open for the 2nd one.

The issue that I have with Flanagan is having sheens, Madge, Flanno. Seriously too many alpha coaches at one club. I suppose then the penny may drop it’s the roster.

I’d prefer young up and coming coaches with smarts as we need to develop coaches as well as players. Flanagan is good but he has baggage.

IMO if Flannagan is appointed assistant Madge better have a red hot start to the season or he's dead man walking before round 10. Could be a contingency plan by the board give Madge a crack next season if its more of the same Flannagan comes in as a care taker coach til the end of the season and the board gets to evaluate him in the meantime.

Except for the drug needling cheat i dont have any issues with any of the people named,in fact i would take Pay as defensive coach in a heartbeat

If Flanagan comes on board that is the indication that Maguire is on very thin ice , a transition if he is punted is seamless! I think a bit more honesty could of been shown with the Maguire decision but hard decisions are not in the Tigers DNA!

Flanagan will be a massive help for Madge.

Put the ego aside, don't look at him as competition and work together with the same goal in mind... smart moves.

It's almost as though the Club has planned for a seamless transition sometime during the season.

Madge needs someone who will challenge him In the coaches box, simple as that. Those 2 duds we just sacked were just his yes men and when his ideas didn’t work (which was clearly very often), we had nothing else to fall back on. If Flanagan is appointed, Madge, if he’s still this great coach everyone claims he is, would really respond to it and put his best foot forward to work together.

Ryan Carr is interesting.
In the recent interview of Madge with SEN where they spoke to him specifically of 2014 and how he got them their he mentioned after Sandow left the halfback position was between Adam Reynolds and Ryan Carr.

Didn’t Nathan Cayless do some work with the Kiwis? Not sure if this is whilst Madge is Kiwis coach or beforehand.

We all know what Flanagan can be, It would be a really solid appointment provided that Flanagan takes it on with the aim to redeem his future first grade coaching opportunities by making an impact similar to Ciraldo or Fitzgibbon. If he is taking it on thinking Madge is a deadman walking and I’m next in line for the job then that is not the kind of attitude we need.

Ryan Carr would be a good signing imo. Has done well with a variety of not so strong teams. Almost got Featherstone to the Super League which would have been amazing for them
