Who should Madge's assistant coaches be for 2022?

Ryan Carr would be a good signing imo. Has done well with a variety of not so strong teams. Almost got Featherstone to the Super League which would have been amazing for them

Carr was most recently the Parra Eels KOE Cup coach after returning from Featherstone at the end of 2019.

Little bit on Carr and Also the outcomes of the NSW Cup side.
Surprised to read they actually finished ahead us as the comp closed up.

Dean Pay…..our defensive coach……it’s so obvious

I was right re Cayless, 2018 started as an assistant in the Kiwis.
https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/league/104437106/world-cupwinning-captain-nathan-cayless-named-michael-maguires-kiwis-assistant-coach

This quote from 2020, Robinson speaks of the difficulty of preparing players outside the 17 that can’t play football (due to the lower tier shutdown)

“People see the 17 that run out, but the squad is really important - you vary that over the course of a season," he said.
"There’s no different a month ago when we were short on troops to now – whoever gets selected, we want to perform. Whoever doesn’t get selected we need to perform as well.
"The group of guys that haven’t played but have trained against our first grade have been incredible. Their attitude has been spot on.
"Nathan Cayless has really been looking after that group which has been really positive for us. But they still don’t get that adrenaline on the weekend, and you have to manage the welfare side of that."

What about Rohan Smith , Brisbane North’s Coach.

Would really like him but dont think he will sign before his Norths contract expires (end of 2023). Still would like to see enquiries made.
I've also been impressed with Brideson, the Wynnum coach and i think he would more likely sign.

Smith turned down a role at the Chooks he won’t be coming to the Tigers, my guess is his relationship with Terry Reader will see him at Redcliffe as a succession plan to Bennett, a massive no from me for Brideson. I would love to see Scott Prince in some capacity being the BHP coach of the year & seeing what the players & their age is that are playing for the Devils tomorrow & how they have stepped up.

The issue that I have with Flanagan is having sheens, Madge, Flanno. Seriously too many alpha coaches at one club. I suppose then the penny may drop it’s the roster.

I’d prefer young up and coming coaches with smarts as we need to develop coaches as well as players. Flanagan is good but he has baggage.

Yeah! and he would need a crane to lift his baggage.

curious why Brideson is a massive no?

I was happy to see Flanagan as a head coach not as an assistant, it does nothing for stability & if Madge still has demons from Siebold then the place would be toxic. The club has decided to stick with Madge therefore it not I only needs to give him the support to succeed but also the right environment.

Ryan Carr is interesting.
In the recent interview of Madge with SEN where they spoke to him specifically of 2014 and how he got them their he mentioned after Sandow left the halfback position was between Adam Reynolds and Ryan Carr.

Didn’t Nathan Cayless do some work with the Kiwis? Not sure if this is whilst Madge is Kiwis coach or beforehand.

We all know what Flanagan can be, It would be a really solid appointment provided that Flanagan takes it on with the aim to redeem his future first grade coaching opportunities by making an impact similar to Ciraldo or Fitzgibbon. If he is taking it on thinking Madge is a deadman walking and I’m next in line for the job then that is not the kind of attitude we need.

And how would you know beforehand. Could you believe anything he had to say, given his previous record.

If Flano gets the gig there will be some interesting reading on the forum

There's always support and hate towards some one no matter who they are.

All a part of life.

The only ones I've seen vocal about not wanting Flannagan have legitimate reasons.

If he does join us, I hope he proves his worth and wins those individuals on side through his actions.

Flanagan or Pay - choice is easy to my mind.

Dean Pay quote:

"“At the end of the day, when [the players] walked off you knew they had given me everything they had. That’s what we wanted to do, to make sure we gave it everything we had.

“Sometimes a lack of polish and ability let us down, we wanted to make sure we put in everything we could for our jumper and our fans. "

Sounds good to me, isn't that what we all want.

Flanagan is not the right coach. He is too much in the style of Maguire. We need a younger coach who can complement Maguire and can communicate with a young squad.

So ones a coach who got sacked for cheating ..

The other has been sacked from 3 clubs for not being good ..

Sounds like a classic tigers signing ..

Pay gets my vote. He can pick up where Steve Folkes left off.

Madge needs someone who will challenge him In the coaches box, simple as that. Those 2 duds we just sacked were just his yes men and when his ideas didn’t work (which was clearly very often), we had nothing else to fall back on. If Flanagan is appointed, Madge, if he’s still this great coach everyone claims he is, would really respond to it and put his best foot forward to work together.

My prediction is Flanagan will be the head coach for the majority of 2022. If the Tigers start slow , Madge will be gone by round 8. He is going to want to spend the last $1m - $1.2m wisely.
