Who should Madge's assistant coaches be for 2022?

I was happy to see Flanagan as a head coach not as an assistant, it does nothing for stability & if Madge still has demons from Siebold then the place would be toxic. The club has decided to stick with Madge therefore it not I only needs to give him the support to succeed but also the right environment.

Agree - don't think flanno as assistant is good for stability

Where has Cayless previously coached?

Was in a player development role at Parramatta from 2015-2018.

Warriors reserve grade coach in 2019 (came 9th out of 12 teams).

Roosters assistant coach in 2020 and 2021.

Flanagan is not the right coach. He is too much in the style of Maguire. We need a younger coach who can complement Maguire and can communicate with a young squad.

So ones a coach who got sacked for cheating ..

The other has been sacked from 3 clubs for not being good ..

Sounds like a classic tigers signing ..

Flanagan is a very different coach to Maguire. If you read about Flanagan he analysed the strengths of the players he had at the Sharks and changed their style of play to suit those strengths. He is also regarded as a very good man manager. He does not adopt the one style fits all or my way or the highway approach.

Nah but he's a cheater so we much create fake narratives about him to justify why signing him would be stupid. He cheated, thats reason enough yet people on here act like he's not a ridiculously good coach that had Cronulla a competitive team for longer than Madge had Souths a competitive team. That's a reality. And Cronulla are not a superpower club like Souths. It's a more impressive coaching record imo and the more talent we have at the club the better.

I don't need to create anything, he should not be in a role where he is responsible for the health of young footballers.

Isn’t that the role of the strength and conditioning coach or high performance dude .. Which was ex-sharpie Aaron Gray..

I think we are getting a new one of those too..

To be honest I can cop Flanno as an assistant where he doesn't have as much responsibility, but I see this as a stepping stone to the head coaching role and I am not comfortable with him having that much responsibility at the club.

What about Rohan Smith , Brisbane North’s Coach.

Would really like him but dont think he will sign before his Norths contract expires (end of 2023). Still would like to see enquiries made.
I've also been impressed with Brideson, the Wynnum coach and i think he would more likely sign.

Smith turned down a role at the Chooks he won’t be coming to the Tigers, my guess is his relationship with Terry Reader will see him at Redcliffe as a succession plan to Bennett, a massive no from me for Brideson. I would love to see Scott Prince in some capacity being the BHP coach of the year & seeing what the players & their age is that are playing for the Devils tomorrow & how they have stepped up.

Scott Prince. Verbal skills that are sure to inspire

Dean Pay…..our defensive coach……it’s so obvious

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/i-want-another-crack-at-the-nrl-pay-ready-to-return-to-coaching-20210424-p57m10.html

Flanagan or Pay - choice is easy to my mind.

Dean Pay quote:

"“At the end of the day, when [the players] walked off you knew they had given me everything they had. That’s what we wanted to do, to make sure we gave it everything we had.

“Sometimes a lack of polish and ability let us down, we wanted to make sure we put in everything we could for our jumper and our fans. "

Sounds good to me, isn't that what we all want.

Pay gets my vote. He can pick up where Steve Folkes left off.

I get depressed looking at pay. No thanks.

That might be the point tbh, you never know. Flano will be eyeing off the HC role from day 1 if we hire him

I can't believe Flannagan is allowed to be anywhere near a club as a coach again. How Cronulla survived after his "ignorance" with the supplements being injected into his players, and indiscretions in relation to cap breaches is beyond and why any club would want to risk having someone who is so reckless with the responsibility of leading impressionable young men stinks of desperation from where I sit. But clearly plenty happy to overlook that.

Yeah and with the player weaknesses he deployed an illegal substance-abuse program.

The biggest problem we've had is that Madge hired assistants who would just nod and agree. That's why they were turfed. If we get new assistants who are not experienced enough to step up and counter Madge then we're no better off. That's where I see an advantage of getting Flanagan who seems a strong enough personality to not be a yes man.

He's been punished and served his punishment. Let's hope he is brought aboard and we have a seamless transition in replacing Maguire.

Some people shouldn't be put into positions of responsibility, Flanagan has shown he is and example of that.
