Who would you guys like as our defensive coach next year

Thinking outside the square, why not someone like Fulton? Very good defender and was a pretty good reader of the game. Could teach a few of the boys how to grass the ball carrier instead of going high and getting bumped off. Could be handy for Brooks and Moses.

CB,do remember Chris Mortimer when he played for the Bulldogs…he had a fantastic tackling technique and was applauded for his defense rather than his attacking abilities..
One commentator once said " if Chris Mortimer tackles you,he nearly cuts you in half"..
Old style but very effective,he owns a farm in the Riverina now I think....gee if some of our guys tackled like him it would be awesome.....

The game is now a different game to the one played ten twenty years ago, so anyone you select should have recent experience at a successful club. Blokes like Folkes great in their day, but it is a different game now.

Individually all our players can tackle, we just need a guy to get our team defending as a unit, easier said than done. Anyway i would be targeting someone who has had recent success.
Although didn't I read that Webster is coming back and maybe may get the gig or one of the assistant coaches we already have on our books

I'd get Tommy in the sheds just to tell a few home truths. Some of these guys need to know that there was a time where you played for the bloke next to you and not just for the coin.

Who is Andrew Webster anyway? I thought he was a journalist!

The only time in 17 years of existence that this team has had any decent defence at all was when Folkes was in charge of it, so please bring him back!!

It's interesting that our 2nd best year in defence (at least on points conceded) was when Royce was in charge. Myself, I think it's no coincidence that our best defensive years coincided with Gareth Ellis playing for us.

what about Tommy Raudonikus

Maybe you know Tommy personally but does he still hold up okay? Hasn't he had some big ops? Has the game moved on into more complexity since his days? I would guess so. He would have half the team in the sin bin by smoko - god bless the guy.

No Tommy is not the best health wise. My suggestion was only that he would certainly add the intensity needed in defence. The game has moved on and he certainly is Wests and league legend!

That is so true Ellis was an excellent defender and we really havent had anyone capable of replacing him. That is one of our major weaknesses

It is convenient at a time when we have just been whacked again, emphasis is placed upon the "defensive coach" rather than the head coach. You would think for accountability the head coach should well be held accountable.

Do you post about anything other than Jason Taylor?

Maybe the moderators could create a sticky with your thoughts on Jason Taylor to save you having to post the same thing in every thread…

:roll

Ex front rower from Broncos
Shane Websky ( last name something like this ) and if We fail early in the year after 8 rounds
Cleary to take charge

Tommy is destined for greater things than being a defensive coach. I have no doubt that he will be the first president of the Republic of Australia. If he isn't, there must be a fix going on!

I would say that, individually, our blokes can't tackle after seeing Canberra stroll through one on one "attempted" tackles.

Will you please stop mentioning that game and getting my blood boiling. The local derby is a better game and it only cost $6 to enter. How can they attract TPSs after that effort? I could call up Sister Mary Michael from the Sisters of Mercy she had us tackling well.

At least Tommy was never a sponger.

Not all coaches are bad, I assume some of them are ok?

Very seldom do you make indivual tackles in the NRL, more often than not its a combined effort and that is where we struggle,to often our smaller guys are getting isolated in defence. Andrew Johns would struggle one on one with a player like Papali. So that's where a defensive coach comes into play by putting structures in play to protect the smaller guys

It's more of a mental thing than a technique thing imo. Most of our boys just don't want to go to war. So I say bring in military drill sargeants.

Hey what a great idea…these guys have been on holiday far too long..though some of our recruits were ok.. still a drill sergeant wouldn't go astray here

I think Steve Folkes would be a good acquisition for this role, but I fear he is already in a coaching job elsewhere.
