Madge will change our culture OR be gone in a year IMO.

Bashing up a dressing room at Manly would have fired up the Burgess brothers, and all those things Madge did would get senior / tough vets ready to win.

Our blokes though? Brooks, MBye? Our pack? Most probably giggled.

Madge's style suits tough, winning, vets.

Let's hope we either get some or that some of ours actually toughen up...

bashing in a room in Brookvale Oval would've improved it greatly to be fair......

did he happen to Bash the field at the time as well?

cause the field looks like 10000 fans have been to town on it with bats

I like Brookie - always like watching games there.

Obviously you don't.

not a fan of Brookvale sorry

That’s such BS, to assume that we (you) understand the heart of the issue at Souths, that the players were right and the coach was not, or that the coach was specifically too hard and they gave up.

I seem to recall that one of our colleagues who is related to a current Souths player who played under Madge, said that stories that Madge lost the dressing room were garbage. In fact, Madge was well liked by the players.

If my memory serves, his Souths relative said that Seibold was white-anting Madge and that it was Seibold who was disliked by the players, not Madge.

Have been told the same - but people will always form their own opinions.

It's also ultimately irrelevant. There's no point anyone spending time worrying about whether or not the players "like" the coach, because he is the coach and it's the results that matter.

If Madge gets the results, I really don't care who likes him or not. And if he doesn't get the results, all the friendly players in the world won't save him.

It's relevant if they don't put in to get the results for the coach..easier to punt 1 bloke than 17-20..

The players will see him out ?

Still goes back to being realistic about the talent the coach has to work with.
Fans are not known for being objective about anything when they are losing so happy to trust that Maguire who has been there and done that may be in a position to make more informed decisions than most about the direction we need to go in, and who that may or may not include.

I think coaches are a bit like CEOs. Some are good at rebuilding, others growing organisations and others at leading through troubled times - it is extremely rare to get one for all seasons. I see Madge as a bit of a “rebuilder”. He may point the club into the direction it needs to go but may not be the one who sees the final fruits of his labour.

Not having a go at you mate , but what do you mean by final fruits ? Are you saying sustained success ? Or a premiership ? Because to me at Souths , he just did all he could with that team , and they hit a wall .

The great coaches learn how to adapt their style, they are never one trick ponies. Its up to Maguire to make some subtle changes to his and learn from his so called mistakes.

To me i can see him doing that already.

So our coach is a sociopath. Cool.

That's not what a sociopath is.

Haha, I scrolled through the whole thread to see whether someone had already picked up on this.

On Madge, I'm all for anything that hardens up the attitude of the players. We've had coaches that have been all sorts of things, even ones that just could not back up their attempt to impose authority.

Bellamy is a nutcase, bloke nearly has an aneursym rupture every game, how's that working out for him? Had some of the best players play under him, and can basically snare any player he wants. Moreover, he takes fringe first graders and turns them into part of a successful unit.

Let a Taipan loose in the dressing room, make them cross Parramatta Road blindfolded. Hell, make the players play Russian roulette before they run out. Whatever it takes to make this side stand up and be counted for once.

I'm glad Madge didn't coach Tommy, Dallas or Les Boyd

They didn't require that sort of "encouragement."

Funny story a friend of mine was driving past Concord as the players were ambling down to training she bipped the horn and they all crapped themselves ..knows Brooks well and nearly run him over..

I think you are correct , look at Seibold he appears to be a one trick pony and is being found out with the new rule changes

Let go too many players with experience

Apart from Glenn , he has no forward leader

Interestingly I noticed Peter Ryan is heading back to the Broncos

I like the Russian Roulette idea. For a few blokes you'd make sure the pistol was fully loaded......free up some $$$$.

An AK47 would probably be more succesful just in case their performance with a pistol matched their performance on the field(sarcasm)
