Why not, sign Carney.

I feel a bit sorry for him, I know it was a pretty disgusting thing to do but he wasn't hurting anyone and it's plain to see he has not grown up. But I don't think the sharks should of sacked him I think a two game ban and a $$ fine should be enough + the embarrassing photo online for all to see….forever!

Carney is a serial offender and the sharks had no other choice but to sack him. No sponsor would sign on with Carney still in the team after seeing the"fountain photo". The best thing the club and the nrl could do is to offer him help to deal with his issues( alcohol) etc. And for his sake i hope he accepts it and sticks with it and comes out the other side a better person. He owes it not only to himself but also his family.

Well if you listen to his apologists he doesnt have issues….. it was just a prank. I'm sure blokes like Mick Cronin and Wayne Bennett do it all the time.

I've been reading these threads on Todd Carney and had to say something. For all you do gooders out their bagging the crap out of him, you should be aware of the circumstances and why a lot of people are on his side, Firstly he didn't piss in his mouth It was a party pose called the fountain it is staged with a water bottle, looks a lot more realistic in a photo than actually in person as a laugh…....as if he pissed in his own mouth c'mon! ......plenty of guys stage the same pose at parties it's harmless fun. and may I add in his own private life between two mates that was never ever meant to be on social media, It was a joke gone horribly wrong that's now ruined his life and career. I feel very sorry for Todd and how harshly his been treated and hope his got plenty of support around him because I'd hate to see another incident like the other tiger boy. His club and both the NRL have done the wrong thing without knowing the full facts, he didn't even get a chance to explain himself, and the media circus that followed just blew it all up out of proportion as they usually do. I hope that's shed some light on Todd, for those of you who continue to judge him for his past think about this nothing ever gets said in the media or off his club or NRL of what good he does only the bad! Glenn

It aint a party matey. He's getting paid a lot of money to represent the club and it's sponsors. A lot of people put in a lot of work to entice people to join a club, come to games and marvel at the spectacle on the field. This obviously brings in the funds to allow the players the ability to do what they love to do and receive the rewards for doing so. He's damaged the brand at a number of levels.

Behaviour on the field is one thing. Behaviour off it is another. People such as yourself need to have a good hard look at what is acceptable and what's not. Children - yes children see this stuff and it's simply not on. Its not acceptable. It's not now, and it will never be. Wake up to yourself.

Yeah yeah yeah, heard it 100 times before, did you actually read what I said, it's people like you that jump to all these conclusions without knowing the real facts your a bit harsh. I didn't see you comment on the great things his done for the code, like most people straight to the bad his done, shame on you! I wish the tigers were prepared to give him a go brilliant footballer and would be a asset to the club, because the way the tigers are falling with injuries if we don't get any decent players our seasons over.

I am intrigued " TigersRoar73" do tell about those great things Carney has done for the code. What are they??? :unamused:

Tigersroar73….you come on here spruiking the benefits of a guy that has been sacked by 3 clubs. I guess they're all wrong. You are however, absolutely correct in saying that he would have done lots of great things. As do pretty much all the registered players in the NRL. That's what they have to do. That's why they get the big bucks. He is on enormous money my friend. You don't get reward for dragging the reputation of the code through the mud. We're trying to raise the profile - not reduce it's credibility to that of the lowest common denominator. And dont make stupid toilet training comparisons. That's just pathetic.

Carney is living proof there is more to being an nrl player than talent on the field and I would absolutely loathe the tigers signing him even if carney paid them.

Why? What's he done to you? You need to know the real facts before you start whining. What about all the good his done for the code, no mention of that! We need Todd at the Tigers he would be a asset to the club. Where do you want to see the Tigers up their in the eight or down the bottom of the table, the reason I ask is the way the tigers are falling with injury if we don't start to get any decent players our seasons over!

gawd, we've covered the whole "responsibilities of an NRL player" issue ad nauseam now. but here i go again…. :unamused:

as for carney, (again, said many many times on here...) his circumstance is the by-product of YEARS (8 was mentioned on NRL 360: playing since 20, 28 now) of misdemeanours, etc. leading to being sacked by THREE clubs!!!

he has on numerous occasions, and at three different clubs, been deemed to warrant having his contract terminated. THIS IS FACT!

why do you think this has been? nrl clubs don't just sack a former dally m winner to spite themselves.

my "whine" was simply stating that the modern day professional (note - PROFESSIONAL) NRL player has to comply with strict policies enforced upon their behaviour both on field and off and this is simply the deal: get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for playing a sport you love, but that means you are under way more scrutiny than your other 28 year old mates and as such cant just behave any way you feel when in public.

thats just what you get for signing on the dotted line, and everyone knows this.

im no "do gooder" nor am i sanctimonious - its just that i have at least the half a brain it takes to realise that if you continually, over a sustained period of time, break the rules of your employer you are going to pay the price. regardless of whether or not you were "just mucking around" or are just a good bloke who has made a few bad decisions. this only washes for so long.

you make a point that we aren't thinking of all the great things he does for the game. okay, well tell us; then we can weigh up the two lists as "pros and cons" of whether or not todd carney has been good for the game or not.

furthermore, imo there is a lot more to fully supporting your favourite team than simply winning no matter who they have playing for them; i personally am very grateful the tigers are strict on the image their players portray to the public because they are a team i can proudly say i support.

"whats he done to you?". yes, i am personally deeply upset and offended by todd carney. i couldn't sleep for 4 nights after his last indiscretion... please.

and an "asset to the club"?! I'm just incredulous at this sentence being anywhere near carneys name right now...

i understand, and agree with you, that this last incident in and of itself isn't a sack worthy offence, but this is the last of many many chances this guy has had.

i can see your point, but i hope you can also see mine. please at least consider it because this post has taken way too much of my time to write!!

Come on T R 73, you have only joined up here with us to support him via your posts. No problem with that, but you should take the view of others on board, such as Turnstyle's above.

Assuming that you have some sort of relationship, however distant, I suggest that you direct your words toward him. He needs as much advice as he can get, even though he has seemingly rejected the vast majority of it to date.

The guy should not drink alcohol, simple as that. The vast majority of us choose to drink from a bubbler at a local park, rather than at a urinal trough.

Tr73\. I am just glad that he did not cause any damage or deaths the couple of times that he was caught driving drunk. One of the times without a license .

Wise up. He is not worth one penny from our club. He is a serial pin-head.

I reckon its time we close all the Carney threads barring the contract ones

We have far more important issues like dealing with the clubs injury toll and making the Top 8

Carney will never be signed at the Tigers

We have fantastic talent in all the positions Carney is strong in and the hamstring issues seemed to be getting worse

Hey Willow Wanker, what gives you the right to call me a troll. Only talking about Carney, some people like yourself don't like him, others do like him like myself. Yeah I'm only new on this forum but so what, I've been a loyal tigers supporter for over 30 years. If you want to start bagging people then it can easily work both ways!

Never thought I'd add a comment to this post but I have time at the moment…...Todd Carney is a very good Rugby League player, some would say he has elite talent. He has represented Australia and NSW. This is all irrefutable. However, the game is now more than about being a fantastic Rugby League player and a good bloke who gets up to the occasional mischief. The game is about dollars, plain and simple. If an employee of a business creates bad publicity, through irresponsible and offensive behavior, it will cost that business money. Revenue will be lost, through a loss of confidence in the community. In the case of Carney, viewers, including many women and children, will be lost to the game by virtue of the NRL 'meat head' generalisation, memberships and ticket sales will plummet in that player's club and corporate sponsors will retreat. All of this has to do with dollars. It's pointless making comments like he's a a good bloke, as some League commentators are doing. There are enough people saying that for there probably to be some truth in it. But that that's not the point. It's the big picture and that means dollars.

Their will always be a team that would risk the PR damage and sign a player like Carney. Their are not many Elite players, so when one comes available some clubs just cant help themselves.

It is highly unlikely he will get a contract registered with the NRL anytime in the near future and I doubt we would go anywhere near him as we are one of the clubs that put our brand name before anything else, and I will back them on this policy every day of the week

Maybe Dapto Canaries might have an interest. They're not doing so well this year. He might have to negotiate a new slightly lesser figure though.

Sharks secure miracle major sponsor (Labour Health)

But according to Regan Brown, managing director of Labour Health, the decision was a watershed moment for a club forced to navigate from one crisis to the next.
>
“The need for our partnership became much more urgent after the weekend’s incident,’’ Brown told The Daily Telegraph. “**<big>Because they did let Carney go, that’s why we got involved.</big>** Because we realised that the Sharks are actually serious about making a stance. We’re market leaders in our space and when I saw Carney’s incident, I though this is just not on at all. We don’t condone that.
>
“So I rang the Sharks and said ‘listen I’d like to help you guys out’.
>
…With a major sponsor the Sharks are looking at more than $5 million in total sponsorship revenue for the 2014 season.

hopefully, this will be enough for those who don't understand why carney was sacked to understand. hopefully...
