Has there been any indication that Packer and Maguire have “made up”? If not, I wouldn’t have any expectations of seeing him in first grade this season...

I've definitely read on here a few times that they've made up and that he's primed for this year. Hopefully that's true.

We need to swap Packer for AJ.

No we don't - we need Packer, we don't need a winger who thinks he is a full back imo.

I’m not sure what Packer did last year. I must have missed it?

He was injured most of last year and having little spats with Madge.

2018 he was good. Injury is now good, Madge and Packer now good and attitude is good.

You know as well as I do what happened last year - it is this year that we are concerned with. I think he'll be better than the 2018 season myself.

That’s good to hear. I like some grumpiness in a forward. He was great for us in 2018.

I’d love to see him get whacked ,but who in our team is capable of that?lol
Maybe Josh Aloiai

Aloai goes to church with Matterson....he aint belting him.

We do not have an enforcer at all.

I was hoping Packer would be when we got him....did not happen.

That’s a shame

Yeah we have definitely needed one for quite some time

Can’t remember the last time one of our players put on a big shot

Simon Dwyer...

What a player ?
Love that guy

his birthday today too I think

Yep.
Happy birthday to that legend.

A tragic tale of the game.

How about a Mikaele Musgrove double tackle
Followed up by a Packer Leilua double
If he gets back up send in Garner and Clark
Then wash and repeat

Am I correct in saying

That our club has the most exciting juniors comming through atm?

Our junior recruitment has been top notch

unfortunately, I cannot see another Tedesco, Simona, Koroibete, Dwyer, Fafita or Woods

Really? They haven't even played a trial game yet and you've written them off?? lol

I can see quite a few really talented players. Our issue is to retain them now before we have to fight off the big clubs. I know we beat a number of the bigger clubs to get Dillon

From what I have read on this forum he is a hard trainer and apparently the CC coach wants him at fullback. Time to upgrade our youngsters and work overtime to develop ten for WTs, not the Storm or other big clubs. Dufty had issues in the dressing room.

I don't think any of us are pleased with the recruitment.
On the back of 10+ years of failure we really needed to do better in the player market, especially considering the warchest.
Not to say our management didn't try their hardest.

Frankly, our roster is arguably the worst in the comp and to be honest, one the worst I've seen in 40 years I've followed Wests/Balmain.

If we finish the dreaded 9th or 10th again it will be because we had some encouraging performances (which are inevitable over the course of a season), and this may once again serve to vindicate the players, management and some fans that we have the right squad and are heading in the right direction. Obviously we all want to win games and compete, but let's not kid ourselves, every win with this roster is just another chance for us to pull the wool over our eyes and thus walk blindly in a fool's paradise.

I'd almost rather us finish 15th or 16th and in doing so recognize the need for a serious roster overhaul than go through the emotional turmoil of nearly making it, getting heartbroken again while having to justify our roster at the end of next season.

I am sure the club is aware of the need to overhaul the roster. We are currently stuck with Cleary's stupid excesses with Packer, Reynolds & Mbye which will start to clear out next year.

Much of the deadwood is off contract at the end of the year so the overhaul is far easier for the club.I am sure many who are off contract will be told they will not be required in 2021

Y finish 15 or 16th when we can make semis.......

with our current squad? not gonna happen. forwards are ok, outside backs are terrible and only half our spine can play their positions.

True but we also have money now, today, this instant and we seemingly can’t give it away. Can’t just blame locked up money.

Our forwards look to be developing nicely. You'd hope over the next couple of seasons we will have a good pack. We need two more stars in the team. One at fullback and ideally the other at 9. Then we need a couple more high quality outside backs.

It's looking rough for next year.

In some ways I feel we have more chances of building up from here. I don't see the bad signings that we've had in the past. Some gun juniors or lucky purchases in the right positions could turn us around.

Brad Abbey is not in the top 30...let's say we actually do fill our 30, and then he does very well in state cup, he won't be eligible to play anyway?

1. It's no worse than last year.

2. Recruitment hasn't finished yet.

All I can say if it's as bad as some make out, are they saying we should fold up and close the doors? I don't think so, but there seems to be a few thinking we are terminal.

Yes we need to improve things and I think we are.

1/ not just Maguire is in control of recruitment we have Hartigan and McDonnell in identifying potential.

2/ our terrible player training and rehab facilities are finally being replaced.

3/ our coaching, support and rehab staff have had the broom put through them.

4/ we do have a good story to tell potential recruits who are able to see effort equals reward as against the want it now players.

5/ our back room is in order and working well to a plan.

However, we still have issues such as the multiple playing fields, an ability to steer wrong with bad board room actions e.g. knifing Go and appointing O'Farrell, perception amongst other clubs and player managers i.e. being sh#t upon.

But, we are getting there. I don't want us to fold nor relocate to Perth.
