Didn’t all of zanes crap start and finish at the bay hotel ? Man , I would never set foot in that place again if I was him . I’d find another place to have a beer . Walk down to the Palace if that’s still open . Or better yet , get a bus to the city . Cause that place is clearly bad news

Exactly my first thought.

The bloke is either an absolute bonehead or went there looking to cause trouble.

Nah I wouldn’t say that . It’s probably a really good place to pick up mate . Beautiful beach babes , backpackers , probably the only place around that still has a nightlife . But surely now , he’s got have a think about , how the bar staff , bouncers , police etc are looking at him when goes there .
When I lived in Wagga , there was a bloke in the friendship circle, who the moment he walked into the Vic Hotel , he would be watched , and if you were near him , you would just feel eyes on you . I really didn’t enjoy being around him , as stuff would eventually go down . Yea you’d say most of that is his fault , but , there’s a small percentage of that being ,staff waiting to pounce .
It’s just not worth it when relationships , even ones like bar staff to patron deteriorate to that point . Find another pub.

Sydney has plenty of venues with all of the above.

I'm baffled why anyone with half a brain would ever want to go back to a venue that gave evidence against you in a serious court case and probably has you on a banned customer list.

The bar wouldn't care ...your a paying customer ...they need business ...could be different owners now

And if it is the closest hotel you normally drink at .....I got banned at least twice from my local waterhole when I was young and full of ......once a pool ball went through a window from one of our group all gone ...the other was a fight

Perhaps they don't care, but I've worked at some venues that did care.

Pool ball through a window and a dust up is completely different to an indecent assault case on a young lady.

Didn’t it come out that that’s not what happened ? Man that would suck , for guys like you to remember him that way , if it didnt happen , or was a misunderstanding .

lets hope we don't see any more negative press leading into the season and in reality both players should now be excluded from round 1 as a deterrent for the rest of the season, they do get mentored on acceptable behavior and should know when to go home.

Surely excluding players for copping a fine is a bit much. They made what looks like a very minor mistake, disrespected a cop or two and got fined accordingly. End of the matter imo.

Yeah, another slap on the wrist will fix it. :face_with_rolling_eyes:

Should we also start rubbing players out of the 17 for speeding fines? Parking tickets?

Well that depends now doesn't it
Doing 150k/m and hour in a 60 zone yes
Parking repeatedly in a handicap zone giving blatant disregard and respect to those who are actually disabled and require those spots then yes

Look at what this young nut just did in Qld
Stealing a car, ramming other cars and finally loosing controll killing two people and an un born child
Adults need to set the example for the younger generation

If there is a genuine mistake that is made then obviously a lenient penalty should apply
Eg, sitting on 80k/m when you thought it was a 60 zone
But repeatedly offending and not learning your lesson the 1st time should require some kind on consequence
We all are aware by now that not behaving in public or being a public nuisance while intoxicated is just not acceptable
These guys would know that
You can not please ignorance in this case
Especially Musgrove as its his second offence
It just very disappointing as a tigers supporter who hS been waiting for 10 years to make the finals
Only to have a key player jeopardise his position in the team and on the field
We dont need to be down two players before the season starts
I am sure that Madge with have something to say to these guys
To the whole team as well I hope

No more drinking

Lol come on man , the press would report every incident as the worst thing on earth , if that was a thing ? You accidentally stayed 5 mins too long at a parking station “Tigers forumer caught With Huge Infringement “ .
That’s a slippery slope dude .

Well not my decision but they know what the rules are and could have gone home quietly instead.
If excluded from Round 1 selection it does send a message to the rest of the playing group rather than do nothing.
They will get a spray from Madge maybe that's enough???

Telling a cop to go get stuffed , is hardly a new thing. I get it , they should be treated with respect , but at the end of the day , if you can’t handle someone yelling some bull at you, and that’s your line of work , you need to find another one. That job , and an ambo, you need to have a thick skin.

In my view the police handled them similar to any young fella's on the drink that had too much, locked them up for a few hours to sober up and released them with nil charges.

There mistake is that it should never have come to that but you live and learn by your mistakes at that age.

Similar thing happened to myself in my Youth, ended up in a Pub brawl in the Cross was locked up in the Paddy wagon with the guy i was going one on one with, heart sank when thrown in the back and saw he was already there with 1 of his mates.

Luckily have a granite chin that he shook hands and decided that he did not want to go on with it that night, Sobered up released within 4 hours never done it again.

Yep ?. Their both mug lairs . But I’ve noticed a real sensitivity with police , the last couple of years . The only way I can really articulate the vibe I’m talking about is
“Anybody who has to constantly assert their power , has no power at all”.
I don’t know whether it’s society , a lack of empathy and disconnect from the police , the police being far more PC, social media , or all of the above , but it’s not like when I was younger , which was only 17 years ago , when I was 20.
There’s no nuance .

I will give you an example of why Police may be a lot more stringent with the community at large these last few years...
A young friend of my stepsons was lent a car because his was getting repairs done and needed to get to work, the guy lending him the car had his licence suspended due to fines not being paid, the Police pulled the friend over because the rego was in the name of the suspended driver and the police questioned the driver because he thought it was the suspended driver in the car...what eventuated was my stepsons friend abused the police for pulling him over ,saying his license is fine and he wasnt breaking the law..the officer was doing his job making sure a suspended driver wasnt driving..the officer was called all the names under the sun,but still had the decency to explain to him what the matter was,,the kid apologised and the officer warned him about borrowing cars in the future...so my point is the officer took it on the chin and did the right thing ,the young bloke did what most young people do and go into negative mode straight away without at least listening to why he was pulled over...

When were you in Wagga strongee ? I ran the Home Tavern in Fitmaurice street for ages back in the late 1990s...I know the Vic well as I do many of the pubs that were popular at the time..I know where your coming from in regard to people who had an eye on them when they walked into an establishment, there were quite a few undesirables getting around back then and they had bad reputations for being troublemakers..it happens everywhere...I suppose this is why the legislation was passed for RSA and house policies to alleviate these problems...

I have never liked the NRL getting involved in off field incidents,to me that is not their job .EG; De Belin. The problem is public perception of the game,Does mummy want juniour to play this nasty game etc. Sponsors of the game pay these guys wages, and as such do not want to be associated with bad pressThe NRL lost big money previously from our backers . The nrl and the clubs spend a fortune on education of players in this regard . There is no excuse today, behave yourselves, you get three times the PM's wage, otherwise go back to digging ditches or wheeling a barrow.

That job , and an ambo, you need to have a thick skin.

Sorry ,that is a bad way to look at things. No copper ambo or any others should have to put up with fools. It should be compulsory for these idiots to spend a week with these people handling druggies, domestics.with people spitting on you, vomiting on you, abusing you,and then seeing young kids and others slaughted on the roads. You live in disneyland.

We don’t live in a world on should though. Not everyone is brought up with these values . So much as we should stop fossil fuels , or we should all get vaccinated , or we should all pay taxes , not everyone agrees . So what happens then ? Your going to be sensitive every time some treads on your corner ?

Man , I have son with ASD , and he’s just so defiant and at times disrespectful to just about anyone in authority. It’s not that we haven’t taught him , but at the end of the day ,as frustrating as it is , he just doesn’t see it as disrespectful . He wants his way and that’s it . His brain doesn’t register normal social cues like many other people.
So then who had to change at that point ? The person who’s incapable and doesn’t even know it’s a thing . Or the other person who is having thier authority questioned ?
This is the way as a parent you have to think about it . As infuriating as it can be at times . It’s with this in mind , that I think the police should think about these things .

I sympatise with you as my niece has kids with similiar problems.I don't know how they could discern who was genuine and who is just an A-HOLE.The disrespect shown to the police and others is very disturbing in the current society.

If the NRL handle this like they did Brent Naden's incident .. they have nothing to worry about. It will be up to the Club to handle discipline the players. Put your hand out .. smack .. now don't do it again.

They should be given a decent fine. Seriously how stupid are they:
- They are refused service and asked to leave. It doesn't matter whether they were blind or whether it was a misunderstanding an they tripped over a chair after drinking water all night, it is not an argument you are ever going to win. If you are refused service and told to leave you leave.
- They then waited around long enough out the front for police to arrive. Usually you will find it is the venue management or security that will try and talk you into leaving and suggest you call it a night. It is only when the advice is disregarded that they will call the police. They normally tell you, and anyone with half a functioning brain might take the tip and leave at that point before getting into further trouble.
- When the police arrive, they will also likely try to move you one, possibly with a fine. Most people again would leave before the situation escalated.

The fact that it was 3am and they they could not make any sort of logical decision at any of the 3 junctures above suggests that they were out of their skulls.

It is more good luck than good management that people are able to describe this as "nothing".

What if one of the police had got a bit physical? Resist arrest and assault charges?

What if they took a liking to a lady walking past and did not like her response?

They made absolutely stupid decisions and the club should come down hard on both of them as an example.

No your missing my point mate . It’s not that my son or anyone else for that matter is different , or thinks differently , it’s that you can’t control that . I just don’t think police are good anymore at de escalation. I was just saying having that experience had changed my perspective on why and how people behave .
I just think they’ve lost thier ability to differentiate between who’s a knob, and looking for trouble and who they could talk down and get them to see reason .
I’ve just seen guys who can talk you down from your crap , and that’s a real talent , that for whatever reason old school cops had .

What I always think is so stupid is the players risking their career for the stupidest stuff.... like you're living the dream life being a footy player and you risk getting in trouble over not leaving the pub and getting drunk? Not worth the risk ?

lets hope we don't see any more negative press leading into the season and in reality both players should now be excluded from round 1 as a deterrent for the rest of the season, they do get mentored on acceptable behavior and should know when to go home.

Surely excluding players for copping a fine is a bit much. They made what looks like a very minor mistake, disrespected a cop or two and got fined accordingly. End of the matter imo.

I empathise with anyone bringing up a child on the spectrum and in your case his particular issue must conflict with, if I recall correctly, a military background full of authority for you?

Also very much agree that police need to and with a much greater emphasis, consider the circumstance of those they encounter. Still, in this case I can only see a couple of self entitled twats.

2004 -2005 mate . Yea , the drinking culture there was really . Dare I say , aggressive ! A lot of tension , posturing , jealousy , angst , showboating etc. That’s not how I used to go out . A fun night isn’t punching on with someone , getting kicked out and vomiting in the cab back home . Plus there was always a sober friend there , ready to let everyone know all the stuff they got up to .
The red lion was another level to the vic. I used to avoid that place , as it was guaranteed to have at 1 major brawl there .

Yea , exactly . Good memory . I don’t bring it up to say poor me , just as an anecdote for me changing my perspective with this stuff . But it’s super tough, on a micro level just for me to do with being screamed at , told no , having to reword to more positive tone , compromise etc. I can only imagine that with adults . But we’ve all seen bouncers , police etc , just deal with the situation wrong , and escalate , I was just commenting on a perspective change for myself as I didn’t always think this way , as you have definitely touched on there formerguest.

NMD
No more drinking

Feels a bit like you're making mountains out of mole hills mate, throwing out what ifs of the worst possible scenarios to argue against my point. If anything AJ and Zanes 3am row with the cops would be likened more to going 75-80 in a 60 zone than anything as bad as your examples. Which wouldnt warrant any players suspension in my mind. Nor is it like aj or zane is a repeat offender as zane has been acquitted of most of his previous charges and neither has been charged now. Just feel like people are coming down alot harder than is warranted on these blokes for what has actually happened.
