What I always think is so stupid is the players risking their career for the stupidest stuff.... like you're living the dream life being a footy player and you risk getting in trouble over not leaving the pub and getting drunk? Not worth the risk ?

lets hope we don't see any more negative press leading into the season and in reality both players should now be excluded from round 1 as a deterrent for the rest of the season, they do get mentored on acceptable behavior and should know when to go home.

Surely excluding players for copping a fine is a bit much. They made what looks like a very minor mistake, disrespected a cop or two and got fined accordingly. End of the matter imo.

Yeah, another slap on the wrist will fix it. :face_with_rolling_eyes:

So, when the coach asks them to do something, it’s different? They just show disrespect for police?

Petty crime but just stupid. Not a good look for the club and a distraction we just don’t need. Don’t expect to be in the starting 17 any time soon boys.

Great to see the DT can’t get the pictures correct. They put Tommy Talau’s image as AJ in the story.

The Telegraph has changed the pic to Musgrove but news.com still has the Tommy pic stating it as AJ

It is probably Hooper reading the forum that has alerted them to the mistake. This is where he gets his scoops from, as no one talks to him from the club as he is a pest , yet supposedly a supporter.

Exactly my first thought.

The bloke is either an absolute bonehead or went there looking to cause trouble.

I’m sure we were all young and stupid once, but most of us weren’t nrl players earning probably $300 -$400k. The common denominator here is alcohol. If you can’t control yourself after a few drinks then seriously stop drinking. We can talk about the media as much as we want but they are waiting for stuff like this whether it’s us or any other team. Pull your head in guys (especially musgrove), you have an amazing opportunity to earn big money playing sport, don’t take it for granted.

No urine drinking, no animals, no domestic abuse, no assault, no property damage.........
Seriously, smack over the head and a fine.
Sensational journalism.

Projecting much? Without exception every post has said its not a big deal, but it is concerning on other levels.

Are you happy with players getting this pissed at this stage of pre-season, a month out?

Are you happy with our players not having the sense to see what this might do to the perception of them or the club and just leave without fuss?

All concerns, but for mine the biggest issue is them then refusing to leave. It doesn't really matter if for whatever reason they thought they were being hard done by.

It's like the ref making a ruling, they were asked to leave and that should have been the end of it.

I'd like to know the real story - reports in the media are over dramatised for shock value. "kicked out" - was it the case that they were forcibly thrown out or did they leave after being asked to do so. In AJ's case all he was hit with was an infringement for remaining in the vicinity of venue that he was supposedly "kicked out " of. Seems pretty mild to me. I myself have been asked by the police to move on from within 150 mtrs of a venue after some friends and i were asked to leave. Happens all the time at most late night venues in any city.

Really freaken stupid. I get they are young and stupid and I get that most of us have done dumb things especially the Queenslanders amongst us but at some point you have to recognize you are a professional sportsperson and you have to play the game by the rules.

Im going to have to give you guys and gals a little professional insight into some of these incidents that happen no matter if you play NRL are a bricky or a welder....THE governing laws re RSA(responsible service of alchol)is you can be refused service if you are deemed to be intoxicated, cause or disrupt other customers or become aggressive while consuming alcohol....
Now I would just like to say that these signs are plastered all over the entrances and within the premises in clear view of patrons....if people cant read or understand those rules then maybe they should not even attempt to enter a place that sells alcohol and stay at home...
Im saying this because if your just turned 18 or your 70,the OLGR(office of liquor gaming and racing )has spent a great deal of time money and resources to educate the population on theses LAWS..they are not to be taken lightly, not only can the offending customer be heavily fined the premises can be fined and lose their license...Im not bagging either of these boys, but, education in this particular area may assist in the future for them...

These guys probably have been educated on it that are just dumb

No they're not dumb, they just don't care!!!
They think rules don't apply to them they're famous footy players don't you know and they don't like authority and being told what to do because it damages their ego.
They also love attention and nothing draws more attention than bouncers n cops and confrontation.

If you've ever spent any time with footy players off the field and especially on the drink you'll know what absolute tools most of them are.

Therein lies the complete stupidity IMO. When you and your mates were asked move on, what did you do? Did you end up in a lock up with the guarantee that there would be news reports impacting your employer the next day........or did you move on?

Well not my decision but they know what the rules are and could have gone home quietly instead.
If excluded from Round 1 selection it does send a message to the rest of the playing group rather than do nothing.
They will get a spray from Madge maybe that's enough???

Telling a cop to go get stuffed , is hardly a new thing. I get it , they should be treated with respect , but at the end of the day , if you can’t handle someone yelling some bull at you, and that’s your line of work , you need to find another one. That job , and an ambo, you need to have a thick skin.

Sorry ,that is a bad way to look at things. No copper ambo or any others should have to put up with fools. It should be compulsory for these idiots to spend a week with these people handling druggies, domestics.with people spitting on you, vomiting on you, abusing you,and then seeing young kids and others slaughted on the roads. You live in disneyland.

We don’t live in a world on should though. Not everyone is brought up with these values . So much as we should stop fossil fuels , or we should all get vaccinated , or we should all pay taxes , not everyone agrees . So what happens then ? Your going to be sensitive every time some treads on your corner ?

Man , I have son with ASD , and he’s just so defiant and at times disrespectful to just about anyone in authority. It’s not that we haven’t taught him , but at the end of the day ,as frustrating as it is , he just doesn’t see it as disrespectful . He wants his way and that’s it . His brain doesn’t register normal social cues like many other people.
So then who had to change at that point ? The person who’s incapable and doesn’t even know it’s a thing . Or the other person who is having thier authority questioned ?
This is the way as a parent you have to think about it . As infuriating as it can be at times . It’s with this in mind , that I think the police should think about these things .

The Wests Tigers Simply do not need this poor press regardless of the truth behind the situation.

Players need to understand that they are not anonymous and this is the unfortunate byproduct of this favoured employment that they have .

Be Smart and know that everyone is watching all the time in public.

In my view the police handled them similar to any young fella's on the drink that had too much, locked them up for a few hours to sober up and released them with nil charges.

There mistake is that it should never have come to that but you live and learn by your mistakes at that age.

Similar thing happened to myself in my Youth, ended up in a Pub brawl in the Cross was locked up in the Paddy wagon with the guy i was going one on one with, heart sank when thrown in the back and saw he was already there with 1 of his mates.

Luckily have a granite chin that he shook hands and decided that he did not want to go on with it that night, Sobered up released within 4 hours never done it again.

Yep ?. Their both mug lairs . But I’ve noticed a real sensitivity with police , the last couple of years . The only way I can really articulate the vibe I’m talking about is
“Anybody who has to constantly assert their power , has no power at all”.
I don’t know whether it’s society , a lack of empathy and disconnect from the police , the police being far more PC, social media , or all of the above , but it’s not like when I was younger , which was only 17 years ago , when I was 20.
There’s no nuance .

It’s just not worth it when relationships , even ones like bar staff to patron deteriorate to that point . Find another pub.

Sydney has plenty of venues with all of the above.

I'm baffled why anyone with half a brain would ever want to go back to a venue that gave evidence against you in a serious court case and probably has you on a banned customer list.

The bar wouldn't care ...your a paying customer ...they need business ...could be different owners now

And if it is the closest hotel you normally drink at .....I got banned at least twice from my local waterhole when I was young and full of ......once a pool ball went through a window from one of our group all gone ...the other was a fight

Well that depends now doesn't it
Doing 150k/m and hour in a 60 zone yes
Parking repeatedly in a handicap zone giving blatant disregard and respect to those who are actually disabled and require those spots then yes

Look at what this young nut just did in Qld
Stealing a car, ramming other cars and finally loosing controll killing two people and an un born child
Adults need to set the example for the younger generation

If there is a genuine mistake that is made then obviously a lenient penalty should apply
Eg, sitting on 80k/m when you thought it was a 60 zone
But repeatedly offending and not learning your lesson the 1st time should require some kind on consequence
We all are aware by now that not behaving in public or being a public nuisance while intoxicated is just not acceptable
These guys would know that
You can not please ignorance in this case
Especially Musgrove as its his second offence
It just very disappointing as a tigers supporter who hS been waiting for 10 years to make the finals
Only to have a key player jeopardise his position in the team and on the field
We dont need to be down two players before the season starts
I am sure that Madge with have something to say to these guys
To the whole team as well I hope
NMD
No more drinking
