Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

I’m not sure how this is becoming an AD thread but when he is back.

Are we struggling in the halves? Not really, they have been a shining light since pairing Hastings and brooks.

Are we struggling at lock? No Offa has been playing well and is helping forwards out with strong runs and good defence.

Are we struggling in the centres? Yes, we have second string centres playing out of position poorly. AD would strengthen the position and has experience there..

AD will be back in the centres almost certainly….

Adding to that - for next year I understand the idea of letting brooks go to free up cap space for someone performing better, but as I understand reports are that we still have plenty of cap space and struggle to get top line players let alone the top tier players.

Brooks has played well more than for "right now". Yes he is not perfect but doesn't deserve the endless criticism about his play and also appearance. Doueihi is a good player but after two knee reconstructions injury prone is accurate. I note you attempted to minimize by writing "major injury since joining us".
There is a reason why Brooks' gets hammered by the media. It's because he hasn't delivered at halfback, Hastings proved he could do that in 2 games, and Brooks is now playing better as a result.

Doueihi has been with us 3 years and has had one major injury. Would you call Liddle injury prone?

Initially I had reservations about it but the more I think about it I think it's got merit.

Mate someone else suggested it and I thought it was madness. I honestly think it could work. It's worth a shot.

I also thought Brooks would be hopeless at 9. He can play there as well.

I still like AD a centre because they act as first receiver a lot these days and AD can still throw those nice cutout balls to Noffa and he's got that jink in his running style to straighten the attack or cut back inside.

I think AD can do the job at centre but his defense can be terrible. He can hit them and hit them hard. The problem is he also completely misses them at times.

It'll be interesting where they end up.

The no 1 thing to me is we need to win games.

i think its hilarious u kids talking shit about Brooks. u wouldnt say this shit to him at lan, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol

Was with us 2 years and got a major injury...
Liddle has been injury prone until last year for sure...

Although, I feel a bit sorry for him - He did his MCL, PCL & ACL from a clumsy Tommy Talau flopping on his leg rather than being effective in a tackle,
As opposed to just doing it running or turning as they're commonly done.
Being injured through circumstance (105kg Goon flopping all over your leg when you're in a tackle) is a bit different to the insinuation that you're made of Glass.

Brooks stayed while the WTs (for many reasons) lost a host of outstanding players. We are not like the Storm at this stage, so when a player leaves he is not replaced with a player of similar quality. Of course this will impact the performance of the few good players who do remain such as Brooks.

Compare this backline to our present players - Tedesco, Nofoaluma, Naquaima, Simona, Addo-Carr, Moses, Brooks. There is no lack of respect to the players we currently have as I believe with Kepaoa, Toa, Laurie, Doueihi, Hastings and co we can reach a similar level. Your comment about Hastings only proves this point.

You’re avoiding the question. The question was why are we calling an outstanding player who has been with us for 3 years and has had one injury “injury prone”?

I did not intend to put down another player to make another player look good. I’d probably call Jack Bird, James Roberts, Josh Reynolds injury prone but I don’t think others deserve this label, including Liddle.

Coming back from that injury will be hard but easier these day with all the medical help they get, if your worried about D wouldn't he be better at centre anyway?

Two knee reconstructions is injury prone and are major injuries. I've already stated numerous times Doueihi is a good player as is Brooks.

I think centre is one of the hardest positions to defend in. I think he comes back into centre but I think we are getting some players who can also do the job at centre.

I don't know where you put them all ?

What would you do ?

Doueihi will take a year from his first game to get back to anywhere near his best. We don't know what that will look like because this is his second reconstruction. WTs should take as much pressure off him as they can and ease him back to fitness from the interchange. So many want to hit Brooks over the head with Doueihi they don't empathise with the battle he will have to recover.

Where do they all fit ? I can see the appeal in dumping Brooks.

7 Hastings - heaps better than Brooks in this role
6 Doueihi - better than Brooks in this role.
3/4 To'a & Kepaoa -- Talau as a back-up along with kids coming through.
1 Laurie

I think the weakest link is Laurie especially with the way Brooks has been playing.

Brooks has been one of our better players year in and year out. He is still one of our better players.

I can't figure it out.
