Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Don’t agree, yes Moses was the better player but crap attitude. He was the ring leader to get him woods and turdesco out of the club. Remember it was his uncle that was all their managers. He was behind it all the brains of the operation. He was the better player compared to brooks, but crap human being, that didn’t give a crap about the club. Evident in him tanking in games to get out early from his contract, I am glad we didn’t keep him, slimy turd.

Here we go chasing headlines about signing big name players from other clubs with big desperate spend anything bids. This will end well.

If we haven't yet learnt: shut up about recruitment, focus on the team and stop windbagging on radio about a new approach until you've actually done something on the field.

How can our club bosses be so bad at basic media management? We look desperate and I'm sure it would do nothing good for either team morale and fan optimism when our big money, big publicity bids inevitably backfire on us.

Sheens and Benji appear to be making more of the same missteps with no authority or guidance given from our incompetent club management. I hate to be negative and love the tigers, but everyone on here can see the stupidity of this approach, why can't our administrators?

Unfortunately u can't just sit in silence. The media plays a big part in footy these days.

Did it ever strike you that problem is bigger than Maguire or Brooks?
People are so set on defending one by transferring blame to the other when the truth is that both could achieve success elsewhere in superior organisations, - as many other discards have - and WTs would be no better off.
There is a reason why the club has trouble attracting quality players and now coaches - and Luke Brooks and Maguire are/were victims of it certainly not the cause.
you can check my previous posts to see what I think about the Board and Pascoe. it's not flattering.

Don't be. He's been a broke-down shell of himself since he returned from Canberra. That shoulder surgery did him in. Maybe the same surgeon who ruined Sammy's shoulder. The guy you should be looking at is Jack Welsby. This kid is something special. 6'2/6'3 - plays fullback but with the ferocity of a backrow forward. Quick. Explosive. Ferocious competitor. Best of all - off-the-charts rugby IQ. Scores. Huge number of assists. 20 - 21 years old? Generational talent. He's definitely going to the NRL and the club that gets him will be lucky to have him.
Saw him play a month or so ago. he looked good, stood out as a class above.

Bateman does look cooked and wants too much money.

We need a big fish. Reality is that player managers can’t keep anything quiet because it drives up their players price. The problem I have is that we need forwards more than a skinny over rated 5/8.

Tomkins was an outstanding prospect. His problem was a lack of size and being moved into a fullback position where he wasn't physically able to compete. Ended up getting a debilitating injury at the Warriors which robbed him of his explosive pace. Still gets by with his high rugby IQ. But take away that burst of acceleration and not the same player. A tragedy. But Welsby's the real deal (barring injury). Ask James Graham - Welsby single-handedly won him the GF he was looking for before retirement (and was arguably MOM in the win twelve months later). Regarding Jon Bateman, Wigan signed him on a huge contract coming back from Canberra. But very quickly it became obvious he's just not the same player. Lesser forwards who he would be ragdolling three years ago are now shoving him aside like a small child. Wigan won't say it publicly but I bet they'd be happy to offload that contract onto a sucker. Morgan Knowles would be a better buy for less money. But I think he recently re-upped with St. Helens.
Knowles also looks good. but has a couple of years left on his contract. heavily chased by NRL teams before he signed so an interesting one. as a stated desire to play NRL one day though

This says it all (below) for how the Cowboys turned things around. Its about the players putting in hard work. When ever there is talk about hard work at our club their are rumours of a players revolt. Players will only improve performance if they are called out and believe it's their responsibility to work harder. Any player can improve their fitness and tackle technique - but they as individuals have to do the extra work. Our blokes have been cruising in - and out - of this club for years and it shows in our performances.

“We did a lot of contact, we did a lot of tackling and we just made them do things that they didn’t want to do, day after day. At the moment, it’s showing that it worked,” he said.
“So, we needed to toughen our guys up mentally and physically. We challenged them day after day. We threw curve balls at them at different stages."

“We got them in really early most mornings. To beat the heat and make them a little bit uncomfortable about time management; getting out of bed and preparing for training."

Todd Payten.

Great coach with excellent communication skills, as a player described as a halfback in a forward's body, a great strategist. Close to signing a rich new contract according to 9.
He is a hard coach Paws - and the players had to buy in. Took on Taumalolo who was cruising and ruffled plenty of feathers. Got himself a leader on the field and trained the ring off them. Also has plenty of talent to work with. When the players and fans could see the results everyone has bought in. He certainly has made his mark in the coaching arena.

Unfortunately we don’t have the IQ to land a player like Jack Welsby 😂 I understand he is contracted through to 24 at St Helens? His current coach has signed with the new club, Brisbane Dolphins.

Sheens has a history of making some astute purchases when he has cash, I still have faith.
We are holding firm on Papa & based on media rubbish we are talking to the right players.
