Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Can't you read ? Brooks and AD have contracts we have no choice for 23. I mentioned LB as well as AD being shown the door ! We are a long way from a premiership, most of the players in the comp will have retired by the time we finish in the top 2 (if ever) . The aim is to build a competitive side, grow and develop juniors , and buy and discard players as needed. It,s not to pander to forum favourites who have no clue,
We have no choice but 3 spots left .mmm

Seems like you are trying to create drama from what looks like a good business deal for player and coach so that it gives some credence for persisting with Brooks.
Brooks will have plenty of opportunity again next season to repay another coach's faith in him on the footy field behind what could be a decent pack. Rejoice about that.
like others on here who are not a fan of Brooks I am able to express I am not a big Hastings fan no crime in that.
Merely stating 7 clubs in 11 years over 2 competitions
I am sure it will go well at Newcastle with Hastings ponga, ponga's old man and Adam O'Brien

I would say that once players return to training, it will be unlikely they will be released as Sheens/Benji/Farah will want to build that team cohesion/bonding without any question marks.

That being said probably the only other one likely to be released before the start of his training is Mamaulo as rumoured.

That's my 10c worth.

Have you looked at those squads?
2014 was half decent, and Brooks played well enough to win Rookie of the Year. The season fell apart with injuries and then Potter's sacking.
2015 sure Galloway, Woods and Taupau were all good and played over 20 games. But it takes more than just 3 good forwards to consistently be competitive. The rest of the pack included the likes of Lovett, Seumanufangai and Sue playing 20+ games and Santi and Buchanan 10+. Sironen managed 19 games this season mostly in the 2nd row in what was his best, yet still not overly impressive, season at the club.
2016 The pack only got worse. Lose Galloway and Taupau and sign Grant. Also recruited Aloiai who had a decent but not outstanding rookie season in the 2nd row. Did sign Taylor mid-season who could at least make some tackles.
2017 Largely the same pack as 2017 with no forward recruits and none of the rookie forwards impressing.
Obviously, you have a different opinion. But, i have to ask, what do you rate about any of these forward packs?
Cannot understand how you brooks supporters cannot admit that he is a half with no great ability.

So if thurston had not had good forwards, or cronk or cleary, then they would have been as bad as brooks.

You brooks fanatics defeat your own argument, you are blaming the forwards because brooks cant play.
And when I point out that in that 4 year period we had good forwards,
You then start to argue that those forwards weren't that good.

if he is as good as you say, will the forwards sheens has set up be good enough in your mind to allow brooks to perform like the champion you brooks supporters say he is. ????????

Talk to you next year to see how its worked out.

Dennis, Brooks is likely here in 2024, yawn

Anyone know simpkin gonna stick around?

Few things based on the POM post

1) Looks like we are all in on Brooks & this is a Benji call. 2yr extension takes him into Benji's 1st year which Sheens has always said would be on Benji. Probably the best news on this would be his deal gets restructured, but geez I'm not convinced.

2) Good on Hastings. I like him, can see why Sheens didn't see him as the halfback for him but can also see why it's a bummer he looks likely to leave. Hastings only wanted to play 7, a team has recognised that and he has received a massive pay bump immediately & for 3yrs as well. Kudos to him.

3) Moses news isn't surprising but it's going to take one heck of an offer and the best motivational speech from Benji to bring him back. He could become the highest paid player in the comp.

4) With the Moses news it also isn't surprising news about AD. If we are in on Brooks and chasing Moses then AD isn't viewed long term halves option especially at the price he is asking. Even if we signed AD and Moses, AD would be a very expensive utility/untested center for 800k+. Like AD and think he has a heck of alot to value, prefer we sign him over Brooks but can also see the logic in what Sheens/Benji are doing (might not agree with it).

5) Bateman is a meh signing for me but we lack backrowers and need something badly so it's an important roster piece for us to fill out.

6) Klemmer is our big bopper we needed badly. He is heading into prime prop years and is a quality prop. Instantly makes our forward pack more intimidating and with Joffa & Api as the experienced heads for next few years leading the way for the junior brigade we really couldn't do any better.

On Face value I do think Benji/Sheens are moving us roster wise in the right direction compared to how it was 3mths back for 23. We just need a good 2-3 pickups for 24+ to be nabbed and will be happy (c'mon down a Fullback, backrower and halfback)

This is a waste of a spot on the roster. I hope it's a train and trial.
Woods on a cheap and short contract , could be value as a mentor. I watched most of his games last year, and although he was not the player he used to be, he was valuable',. With the big bodies today, you need big bodies in defence. It slows their play the ball, saps their energy, plus he can offload, which Tigers forwards can;t ,. Him and klemmer interchanging makes sense. I'm 50/50 to be honest, but i think his heart has always been with the club, (wait for the hate!)

Whether you are or aren't a Brooks fan we all have to be concerned with Brooks having another calf issue at the end of the season

The more issues he gets the more it will drop his top line speed ...his biggest strength
It is a concern. What sets him apart from Jack and Adam is his off the mark speed.
