Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Because unlike 2005 and 2011, we were favourites to win the title in 2012 and completely shat the bed, resulting in Sheens getting the punt after being extended the year previous.
Just to clarify we were not title favourites.

We had a good side, but lost people. O'dwyer, Fifita and Gibbs.

South Sydney and Bulldogs were stronger, particularly when you account for the team changes we had to make.
Haslier in his wizdom swapped Ennis for Lichaa, Souths Kept Burgess and GI which IMHO would make them favourites for 2012. We clearly were busting cap, but we should have expected better from 2012...

Also the board woke up and realised they needed to think about Football and the coach!

I don’t agree with some of the rubbish that’s being posted about the 05, 10, 11, & 12 seasons, but I can assure you as a betting man we were equal favourites in 2012 and depending on the booky out right favourites.
To say that 2005 was a failure is complete rubbish. The aim every year is to win the GF we did that in 05 full stop. Melb cheated thief way to GF wins and still call that a successful year.
However, you could certainly say the following years 06,07,08 were complete failures as we did not capitalise on our GF win and although we had some injuries we also had no depth and no D.

SHOOSH

● The relationship between one NRL chairman and his chief executive is at breaking point. Only one will survive the season.

● Huge pressure on the once invincible 2GB Continuous Call team in the ratings, with the ABC closing in on Saturdays and Triple M on Sundays. Trying to be funny doesn’t always work. Sometimes it can get stale. Listeners these days want to be informed. They want strong opinions and analysis.

● Drama at the Wests Tigers between Tim Sheens, Benji and Robbie.

● Everyone is talking about Anthony Griffin, Adam O’Brien and Justin Holbrook being under the pump. You can throw Kevvie Walters into that group as well. He needs to make the finals.

● Which huuuge-name NRL player will be offered an early release from his contract?

It’s such a tough 1 all the bottom 4 teams have made huge improvements in there rosters and the teams from lasts years top 8 haven’t lost a huge amount of talent so it’s gonna be a really really tough year to make the top 8
Finnzo, you are spot on. Sheens said 2025 was the target to have the side ready for Benji ,that was realistic. Yes we have bought well, but we still do not have 13 quality players. The Dogs have bought well, and will challenge, Parra will drop a little, and the usual top sides are still ahead of us by a fair margin. I think we are 5 players short of a good side, and in the next 2 years we have to produce or buy these players. To do this requires smart planning, and money in the bank , and cap space. There is an urgency on the forum to buy, buy buy, but we could end up again with a crap roster in 2025. Baby steps are required at the moment.

💯
And if we do buy don’t over pay. Got stuck with mbye packer and Renolds because even if we chipped in half they were still overvalued

100% we were favourites.
Sheens was extended in 2011 until 2014 but was released following the disaster that was season 2012. This triggered all his court action.

I’m not in at $6, They aren’t generous odds.

Only 2 teams that have come last in 20yrs have made the top 8 the next season. Let alone our own record.

We have no depth, struggle at fullback, have no real centers or lock. We are 1 injury from being in all sorts.

Yes we have done well roster wise all thing’s considering but we still have massive flaws.

History is well well against us on all counts.
we have the forwards to make the 8 and forwards win matches backs determine by how much

We need to sign Mitchell Moses for 2023. That’s the only way we can make the semis.
We need to release someone like Alex Seyfarth so we can sign Mitchell Moses & Nathan Brown to finalise our top 30 for 2023. If we do that in my opinion we are definitely a top 8 contender. & maybe even higher It would be hard to get a release for Moses but I would be doing everything possible to get it done.

My Team
Laurie
To’a
Naden
Douiehi
Staines
Brooks
Moses (c)
Brown
Papali’i
Bateman
Ofahengaue
Koroisau
Klemmer
Bench
Smith (Development)
Blore
Pole
Stefano

Plenty of pace in backline & go forward in the pack do it Sheensy.
if Luke Keary gets released to Parramatta you never know Moses could be a tiger in 2023

To me Bateman at 4 years is not an astute buy especially if we are paying as much as i have heard
Sheens describes his recruitment as the domino he wanted to fall. Is there further changes/recruitment to come? There has been no release of his actual contract figure which is as it should be. What value do you place on the recruitment of a player who potentially has the ability to influence a positive culture at the club?

I don’t get the domino reference.
Is that possibly just a bit of horn tooting on Sheen’s behalf?
Api is our best signing so far.

on a market of 130% ?? almost 50% of clubs make the 8
$6 is about as good as it gets
as far as top 4 or winning GF those odds should be double what they are, they have those markets locked at 100%
Stop making sense the math. 👍
I said $16 coz it rhymed with 6. Just pointing out that your odds are never fair for the punter otherwise there’d be no booky.
But for a team with our record you’d think they could throw a couple of $ at us. Although that sentence is punter bias isn’t it.

Yes that’s how I would normally take it but the roster is all but finalised. Unless we are releasing some more guys?
I believe there are more changes to come. Everyone loves Ken Mamaulo and he tries hard but I envisage his future in ESL. He is a Maguire style winger. With Nofoaluma having one wing spot we need far more pace on the other wing. Our halves are thin as well.
