What’s ironic about that zero tackle article is that Jack Blyth, the author of it, is widely known on Twitter for his intense criticisms of Wests Tigers that he will take any chance he can get.

Absolutely ran us into the ground last season, yet here is he claiming that 5 of the players we let go are the best signings for other clubs. It’s laughable when you understand the context behind it.

He is also rating Klemmer above Papali’i and Koroisau who is widely regarded as the games premier hooker.

I used to read zero tackle quite a bit. About 5, maybe more, years ago until that Blyth guy became one of their main writers. With each article he wrote I thought this bloke has no idea. Got to the point where I no longer read anything written there.

Spot on! I imagine the less appealing clubs would also have a similar struggle with signing sponsors who may be needed to sign TPAs with players?

But there's one intention of the cap you've both missed. While I agree that the system wasn't intended to level the salaries of all players (especially marquees), nor equal the appeal of all clubs as a destination, it definitely was intended to put a ceiling on the budget of all clubs and, therefore, spread the talent more evenly. By having a cap, clubs were being asked to balance their expenditure carefully and make astute decisions about which players they keep or let go. However, even to the causal observer, it is obvious that certain clubs are rorting the cap by using TPAs in their salary structures in order to fudge the figures presented to the NRL. This cheating, reduces the chance of a level playing field, in terms of talent, and, therefore, flouts the the main intention of the cap. And all of this is ignored when it is happening right under our administration's nose.

It's like any workplace though. If you are doing your job as well as or better than the next bloke, and said next bloke is on double your salary, you'd be asking for substantially more coin

Brooks is the example because he's the highest paid guy at the club.

Of course the problem started when Brooks was paid way overs as reward for his Dally M Halfback of the Year award. To be paying him over a million a year is unconscionable! This then created a ripple effect in Doueihi's mind, thinking, as the Tigers main attacking threat, he deserves a salary that is comparable. Net result - two grossly inflated paychecks!

Sorry a dumb question. Does anybody know what Brooks was paid on average over his last contract period. Know it was back ended and seems excessive. But what are the facts? Anybody know?

I view it differently but he is different to me. In my eyes playing for the Tigers is the pinnacle. Playing for Parra is something to hide from your grandkids.

2012 was definitely a stinker year.

Most of us would not remember in detail how the season panned out.

I was watching a game recently and the squad looked unbalanced and not very strong particularly the forward pack.

Losing tedesco didn't help but I think there was a lot of movement in the pack which could be the main reason for the demise.

From memory we were weaker up front. Chris Heighington > Adam Blair IMHO but they are very different players.
Chris H seemed to put a solid effort in, get 60 supercoach points and really was just a solid front rower.

Adam Blair was a battering ram, stays in his position and puts a heavy hit when he can.

Sheens wanted to roll the dice and try something different. Chris H was covering for a lot upfront and that cover was missed.

Yeh mate tedesco did his acl on debute in 2012.

Yeh have to agree don't know where sheens was going with the forward pack in 2012. Although when we left we did loose a lot of good juniors. Tetola, Brown, ect.. who knows.

Yes, absolutely agree. He has little to no idea about the sport he is writing about.

There are some good writers there, but there's no real ground breaking stories, first releases or anything exclusive. He is about as bad as Rothfield in that his agendas are glaringly clear and he doesn't have the professional nous to restrain himself.

There will never be a capitalist paradigm where all parties have the same purchasing and selling power, even under ideal starting conditions.

The salary cap was never intended to equalise the salaries of top players, nor equalise the appeal of all clubs. If that's what you hoped for then you've totally misunderstood how the salary cap operates.

I argue the salary cap does indeed force clubs to pay market value for players - the players themselves will accept no less. But "less appealing" clubs have to pay above market value for those same players.

The Rorters & co pay above market value.......Its just not on the books. True market value should be set by the highest public bidder.....Not by the Rorters paying 800k for a test player & another 500k under the table.

If your happy living in your current house and someone offers you 25% over the odds you probably say thanks but no thanks. On the other hand if your offered 50% or more you say..here are the keys. I think that’s where Moses is and I think Parra will get close enough to any other offer for him to say..thanks but no thanks

Jad, only a complete idiot would not take the most money he could get. That is the clubs problem,not his. His form for the dollars,is questionable, But AD on big dollars , and others do not get a mention, Brooks for all his critics, always gave for 80 minutes, he never dogged it like Mbye , Packer ,the listless Tamu,and a few others.

I agree, what ever you may think of Brooks I think he always does his best.

There is only one game that I can think of where he may not have put in a whole hearted effort and that was the last game of the 2021 season vs the wooden spoon Dogs, but if he laid down in that game, he wasn't the only one.

Pretty sure it averages as $900k per season over the 4 years. 750k, 850k, 950k, 1.1mil

Mate my place is worth 4million dollars market price, if someone knocked on the door and offered me 6 million Iam out the door. If I was offered 5 million I probably would say no because basically Iam happy in my house.

Is Brooks a 7 or a 6?
If he is now a six - given we a throwing a bucket load at getting a new 7 - why is he guaranteed the position when he is unproven?
At 28 after years of persisting with him at 7 with plenty of valid reasons for his stalled career, if we now working to provide all the things that are seen as preventing his progression, why are we chasing a 7 to take his spot.
And we if we don't get that 7 - is he our 7 again?

He is neither a 6 or 7. Some would say he is a myth.
