Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

But Naden can play centre and adds strike,Toa and Tupou are young and with a better coaching side, will improve, Stains if not succesfull at fullback will be on one wing , or even centre. I made an error and said Talau, when i meant Tupou. But they are all young ,and thrown in the deep end, in a poor side. Toa and Tupou with the right coaching, and better side may surprise.
I like Toa, but I see him as Wing/Fullback and backup Fullback at that.

Coaches should hire against what they do best. I.e. Todd Payten is a Prop and he trains Props. Hiring Townsend was exactly what the Cows needed and Payten's weakness.

Sheens in his interview stated how Brooks didn't have to the controlling half. I get sick of hearing how it's his team and how he has to control the game. That isn't his go.

AD is a runner.
Problem is Brooks wants to be a halfback and controlling the team is the halfback's primary job

I think with a better coaching squad, and the addition of class players, this team be a different model . The trials won't tell us a lot, it will take a few games to work out who gels. But i'm confident the halves with Api and our new forwards will be far better.

There are 34 starting centres in the NRL, and we have 4 or so blokes who would struggle to make that position in any other club fighting it out. I think Doueihi, Naden, Aj and Toa are ok at best, Naden occasionally tackles, but gee these 4 can have a shocker on their day.

Hoping for a young gun to kick on a year early.

Brooks to me doesn't come across as a prima donna and if you listen to what Sheens stated in that interview Sheens doesn't believe the halfback is that important. I agree with Sheens in that the pressure should be on a bunch of players rather than one.

I think the point you make is the difference between my opinion on Brooks and people that hate him. I don't view Brooks as being the guy to control the team and I think other players need to do more. It's not an excuse for Brooks. It's about in my opinion having realistic expectations on Brooks ability.

You don't think Cameron Smith controlled Melbourne ? Fulton, Manly? Farrah Wests Tigers ? Ellias the Balmain Tigers ? Munster ? I could give you 20 who had other then half backs, controlled the side.
I think Cooper Cronk controlled Melbourne, Gary Freeman also did that for Balmain. I'm not old enough to have watched Fulton

Yep.

It seems we have good players coming up like Feleny and co...
But our current Center stocks other then Naden and maybe Staines are really Meh. Both Naden and Staines are more inclined to the wing.

Doueihi needs to really shape up or ship out 2023.

Like I was saying above, having a top shelf centre can mean your backs are organised and have structure to fend off an attack. Our pack is big and should stop people from going through the middle. 2022 taught us that defence is needed.

Good points. I'm worried about our attack in relation to the players that we have.
I am kinda not.

Nofo can cross the try line. We saw that with Samoa.

Laurie definitely can cross, Brooks has a few tries in him...

Api is kinda key here and I expect him to give good ball to Brooks and AD...

Plus you have Charlie Staines around who often scores double.

If Sheens + Benji cannot make a team score. I don't know what else we can do.

Defence is my big worry.

Naden still can't tackle.

1-7 wouldn't make a top 8 side.

General rule of thumb is if you can keep the middle tight then the rest should be able to handle itself. We’ve got some great experienced forwards now which should assist this.

Let’s face it though our backs aren’t superstars.
Regardless, I’d be going something like this:

Brooks
Laurie

Maumalo
Naden
Douhei
AJ

Staines

what about val holmes?

Seems apparent eh.

They have a few rounds to show their skills and commitment.

I'm of belief at least 2 of the 3 will......

The one I think may not is Daino.
I think Staines will have too hunger and force the clubs hand on that #1 jersey.

All just a feeling though, could be way wrong.
I think Bula may the FB come finals time.
