Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

AD played better in that one game than Brooks has played in the last season.
true. he also played better in that one game then he himself played in the last season.
it is also the first time either of them have played behind a decent pack against a team that benched their best forwards after 20ish minutes and lost a player to the bin on a hot summer's day.
Hopefully AD can keep that form into the season, and Brooks matches him. But i'm tempering my expectations.

I looked at our top 30 and there’s a few young props there but James isn’t.

Does anyone know if they’re better than him or why he played in trials and they didn’t?

He seems awesome - just curious if peops have seen the other dudes or know why he played and they didn’t

Cheers

They're not better than him imo. Madge
& Co signed Christian Ma'anaima and
Sione Fainu to development deals,
both haven't showed much, James
has come on leaps and bounds since
a strong finish last year, but was always
on a state cup deal unfortuately

Brooks.cant grubber. Always kicks it to hard.

Seriously I get the hate for a player but no need to make up BS.

For a guy who can’t grubber and always kicks it to hard Brooks has a 49% line drop out rate over his career. So 1 in every 2 games he gets a drop out. So he can kick short as to how he fairs across the league is interesting:

AD 22%
Hughes 42%
Moses 65%
Hastings 27%
DCE 53%
Reynolds 72%
Cleary 87%
Keary 46%

That's not really a useful stat at all because it doesn't take into account volume. If someone's putting in 10 kicks a game in attacking territory and coming away with only 1 dropout every 2 games, that's not a good return at all. Whereas someone could only put in an attacking kick or two a game, so even 1 out of every 3 games getting a drop out would be impressive.

The eye-test is far superior here and Brooks' short kicking game is pretty poor. He did have some nice grubbers back in the day when Tedesco was at fullback, but it also spoke of Teddy's kick chasing skills as much as did Brooks' kicks.

Speaking of Eye Tests - has anyone noticed that high ball specialist Ice P wears Elton John Glasses!? 👀👓

Actually it is. The comment was he can’t grubber and always kicks it to hard which clearly isn’t the case. You can use eye tests & scenario based mappings etc but reality is he gets a line drop out 1-2 games over 186 games = he can kick it short accurately at times.

Should his conversion rate be higher for sure and in no way saying he doesn’t over kick it at times but doesn’t mean people should make crap up.

Obviously only counting the times it doesn’t hit a defenders legs…. which is most times.
