OFFICIAL Harold Matthews Cup

That kid could be anything. He was clearly the most naturally classy player on the field. His passing was silky smooth and accurate. He seemed to have more time than others to decide on which runner to hit. He also glided around the field. A bit Lockyer-esque dare I say it.

He may need some self belief. When the game started getting away from them, I thought he may start running it and taking them on. Instead he sort of sat back and let others try and get the team back into it. A big contribution from him for the final 15 may have kickstarted a comeback.
Good call. I think that's where the age comes into it and he may be deferring a little to the older, more experienced players at that stage of the game.

That's where Benji needs to be in his ear at training.
Oni should also be given the target of running at least 6 times a game. Start getting him looking for gaps in the opposition defence

Conti must be really shining for that team...good to see! Even the Wests boys shouldn't got too disheartened. Majority of the squad are playing a year up, which is a big difference at that age (particularly against the strong teams).
Wests look a tad short of size up front.
Penrith seemed to read everything Isdale and Large were plotting yesterday. Luke Laulilii tried hard all game.
Panthers too good.

Balmain dominated early, then an errant offload gave Illawarra the ball and they scored 2 quick tries to level it up at 12-12. Traded tries before HT.

The handling errors and penalties keep going in a landslide and Illawarra now lead 28-18 after 2 quick tries in second half .

One try super lucky street Steelers keep the ball bounce twice before it landed in one of Steelers players hands who ran 90m to score. Changed the game.

Tigers way too sloppy. Too many knock ins playing the ball, several forward passes, ruck infringements. And the game has got away from us

Still on NSWRLTV on Facebook for those wanting to watch. Balmain SG Ball on next, though their squad is now very weak

I think the Steelers are the better footy team, Balmain have a few bigger (fatter) props who can dominate at this age. As for playing actual footy though Illawarra look much better.

Only reading updates but love to see it. With a lot of fanfare for our wests juniors (love it - great bunch), Balmain side have had some good results. Promising signs for the years ahead.

Wests boys seem to be struggling again...down 24 to 6 against the Knights at HT. The fact the side is nearly all a year young has been showing a bit over the last few weeks.
