OFFICIAL Harold Matthews Cup

App just updated. Looks like we scored first with Fuatimau on the wing. Up 4 nil.

Interesting that Fuatimau has come into the side for Oitmann. Oitmann looked quick and was also a part of the emerging Blues Camp with Fittler at the end of last year. Could be a forced change with injury too though.

All three Fuatimau brothers signed
with us. The family must be happy
with the support systems we have
in place for Iverson & possibly are
backing him (privately) to beat the
charges in his case..we'll have 2 C

Interesting side story none the less

Yeah I hadn't heard of Saint before....only the other 2. He has bagged a couple of tries today by the looks of it.

Only 7 goals kicked this year from 18 attempts.
Need some serious practise.
On the positive side, the team is averaging 6 tries a game so far. Good bunch of kids.
.
The back line seem really talented. Can imagine a lot more tries scored out wide.

Can’t stay for all of Wests SG Ball but Da Silva scored out of dummy half to put them ahead.

Great hat-trick from Ali Karnib in the Matts (NSWRL has him down for a double but he scored a hat-trick).

Both Kit Laulilii and Chris Faagutu are here helping out the Wests setup (carrying ice, ballboys etc.) and both don’t look injured at all.

Could both be resting for Flegg in a couple weeks time?

That would be silly if true. Keep matchfit then step up.

Karnib didn't see a lot of action but timed his jump to perfection to dive over from a bomb, also got one on the bell. The new Fuatimau that we've got (Saint) also dived over for a few tries. Gallagher was strong as was Luke Laulilii.

Large showed some nice touches with the boot but didn't run the ball once all game. He's playing very centrally, so rarely has any space to move in, would be nice to see him play a bit wider. He again missed every single kick at goal from the sideline. He really doesn't look like he had any technique in kicking, just hits the ball and goes for the best. He'd definitely benefit from a weekly session with Pat Richards or Benji and spend an hour practicing his kicks.

Isdale had a mixed game. Was involved in some nice backline movements but he's still far too selfish in my eyes. He runs the ball almost every time he touches it, he obviously loves beating an opponent and making his way down field but several overlaps were butchered by him running at 3 defenders rather than give the ball to his outside men. Hopefully something he can work on as he matures. Great for a half to have a strong running game, but ultimately it's their job to get the ball where it needs to go.

It was a funny game. Despite Wests being young they showed some real maturity at times, Souths committed a number of errors which wests did well to capitalise on. It seemed like Souths came with a game plan to shut down the running from our halves by jamming in quickly. Which worked to a degree.

As mentioned Large didn’t have the opportunities to run I think he ran once from memory. Isdale was generally shut down. Large though adapted well and I think it was 4 tries off his boot and a quality kicking display.

I thought Makasini was again good despite not getting over the line. Saint was very solid and Karnib did some good things. As Balmain boy said the highlight being when he out lept the opposition to take a bomb from Large to score.

I didn’t think Laulilii imposed himself on the game like he has previously although he had a couple of good touches.

Isdale needs to look up more and play what’s in front of him. He seems to pre-commit to running even when it is the least favourable option. Large quickly figured out the jamming defence was leaving space out wide and behind so used a smart kicking game.

The goal kicking still needs work, despite most being missed from the sideline again, the strength of this team will mean goal kicks generally won’t be near the posts.

Good news they are still undefeated and showed they could adapt yesterday with what was a very different game plan from the first two big forward pack dominated games they had seen previously.

Looking forward to the top of the table clash next week.
