Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yes Fulton really needs to start fishing in different waters. The pond at Manly isn’t really that deep and I think we’ve already landed the best couple of fish they have available.
Agree, I think we've pretty much drained that swamp and can't see Haumole Olakau'atu coming here.

Steve Georgallis is available if we are after another experienced Assistant Coach.

He brings Wests Tigers DNA, decades of experience most recently with the Cowboys, not sure what his relationship is Benji is like.

Payten will have a totally revamped coaching set-up next season with Dean Young and Steve Georgallis leaving their posts.

Young has returned to the Dragons where he will assist Shane Flanagan while Georgallis remains on the lookout for a new position.

Here are a few recruitment predictions for the next month. In positions of need & to bring more leadership & experience for our young squad.

Our age profile of players currently under contract for next season (top 30 & development) is:

Age 27 to 31: 7 players
Age 22 to 26: 11 players
Age 18 to 21: 15 players

Outside Back:
  • Dane Gagai or Josh Addo-Carr (hoping we secure one of these guys if 1 of Staines, Nofa or Kepaoa departs) – quality centre or winger who would immediately become a leader of our outside backs)
Hooker/Utility:
  • Bayley Sironen or Karl Lawton or Nu Brown (hard-working experienced guys who can fill the #14 role & provide leadership on the training paddock for their work ethic – if Jake Simpkin departs, likely)
Development/Supplementary Squad (we already have confirmed 4 pathways kids, we can have up to 6 players):
  • Nathan Brown (another experienced middle, outside of top 30)
  • Alex Lobb (progressive, tall, athletic winger we have signed, just not sure what contract)

I hope you don’t go off this early with your wife…

I think we can have hopes for next year but not sure of high expectations with these guys
Nice dig.

I’m not sitting here promoting we have done amazing here. With a market that has little A grade talent, we have come out with a heap of potential.

There is rubbish available, we have imo done a little bit better than that. When their current clubs fans are dirty to see them go…. I think they have something to offer. And they all have their best football in front of them, unlike years gone past.

But hey, don’t let an opinion get in the way of your insults champ.

By round 2 the writing was on the wall. Hopefully next year we can get to at least round 5 before we know it's over.
Mate don’t rationalise on this forum . Some people love to death ride . Be optimistic, it’s a better headspace than slitting your wrists waiting for the season to start .
I personally have no idea . I will say this did I expect a team with a halves pairing of Jackson Hastings and Tyson gamble to make the final 6 ? God no . ( I know it was mainly Ponga having a career year) .
And who would have thought a washed Shaun Johnson and his merry band of 5/8 would propel that team to the final 4. No one .
if we can find some centres who can tackle and these halves know how to strip numbers , then we will see .
Bear in mind Canberra are definitely going backwards , if the “brooks is shit club” are right then so are manly . (I think they’re wrong , but some of you have been screaming this message for so long , here’s your chance ) . St George are planning a halves partnership of Flanagan and …. I dunno . Hunt will be at the dolphins . Will they be better ? I’d say so they’ve recruited well .
Who knows.. all I know is we will be young and frustrating to watch , because we are so young . Be positive it’s a good thing .

Hunt will be at the Dolphins? Guess work or something concrete?

After only 3 good years out of the past 24 (33 for Balmain fans), you shouldnt get on your high horse and talk down to people who are pessimistic about this club. Once they walk the walk instead of telling us how good they are, we will change our opinions.

Staines is an interesting one. I think he sees himself as a fullback (with the relevant spine coin). I don’t see him as a wing, while certainly quick enough, he isn’t the metre eater you need to start the set of six off. If he stays I would play him as a centre. I recall he played there in the Panthers squad and was more then adequate defensively - which is our problem.
Staines never played centre at Penrith

We talk about recruitment and who we can get in as quality for our outside backs. BUT I think our 2024 season will come down to the development in our current outside back stocks.

Hopefully our coaching & structures can see Brent Naden, Junior Tupou, Starford T'oa & Charlie Staines have career years. We know they all have the ability!

And even just one of Jimmy Ngutlik, Jordan Hill or Triston Reilly to take a huge leap forward into NRL standard!

I’m sure the warriors had a similar level of expectation for Metcalf and Ford. What makes them any different?
Metcalf and Ford were proven performers excelling in reserve grade for years before the Warriors. They had also shown to not be out of place in the few first grade games they have played.
Sam Fainu only just finished his first year in reserve grade and was hardly a stand out.
Meanwhile Latu Fainu has only played the 9 games against men. I'm very hopeful he will be a superstar from what ive seen of him (and i think he would handle being thrown straight into first grade) but they are hardly at the same point in their careers as Ford and Metcalf were at the start of this year.

I wouldn’t bother with anything that fool has to say. He’s the same poster who claimed Luke Brooks was suffering from “football anxiety”.

I think that says it all about him.

Luke Thompson's confirmed exit from Bulldogs back to SL open up an opportunity for Twal move to Bulldogs me thinks. They will need another experienced middle workhorse & may just absorb his full contract dollars.
Yeah, would be interesting if Dogs jump first on this. Either way we could get Keppie out of Manly. Might help them free up money to keep Olakawatu.

I've now extended my judgement until November when more players will come on the market. If we sign another Tartak client or Manly player, the bloke is a myth to me.
nfi how this forum works... in response to Rihannafan1 (really?)

What do we expect. We hire Manly's recruitment manager and Manly are under HUGE cap pressure.

Ofcourse we are going to be hiring from Manly.

sorry if I offended you buddy… just a little joke …

Nope.

Phil Gould is a sneeky person. What he will do is:
go to Twal and offer the opportunity to play in a club that will make the finals (ha).
make an offer under market value and put performance clauses in the offer.
Get Twal excited about the Bulldogs.

What Phil Gould won't do is pay Overs for Twal unless he does Bulldog overs where 200k is from the cap and 1.3m is from Third party agreements.

Twal is not extra-ordinary. Like him, hate him, whatever. His performance this year has been great for us but he isn't fantastic or would struggle to get a bench spot at PenriFF or the Donkeys.

I hope we don't get Keppie tbh, can't see how he is an upgrade. Can play the odd blinder but prone to errors & penalties. I would much rather we sign Nathan Brown on a T&T or Supp deal outside out top 30 for experience & aggression.
