Do we have the SPICE?!All clubs have a Head of recruitment or something the same ?
The Head Coach talks to the CEO
and if agreed upon that they want to offer a player a contract they notify the Head of recruitment who goes through the figures and informs them how it can be done.
e.g
Do we have the money ?
Do we have the space ?
Do we need to let players go to make this happen ?
All are involved in some way in getting the players they want.
Id offer 5 years $6m. Get it doneQuestion for the forum just curiosity - if you had the option of offering Luai to 2 deals.
1 - 4 years for $4.8 million
2- 5 years for $5.5 million
Which deal do you do? Cause if true that Dogs have offered that extra year at a reduced $ per season. Would you be tempted giving that extra year and dropping 100k each season from our previous offer so we still marginally beat the Dogs offer?
That might be the deal to get it done - not saying we should do it just curious on everyone’s thoughts?
I think it comes down to tax. The extra year at Dogs on less money will be taxed more over time and be $125K less per seasonQuestion for the forum just curiosity - if you had the option of offering Luai to 2 deals.

100%. DCE is 34 years old and is still the QLD origin captain and playing excellent footy at all levels. Halves out of all positions last the longest. Forwards and outside backs who do most of the grunt work retire earlierYou could probably lay down both offers, but I would simply match the Dogs deal.
At 31, I don't think he's done yet. He still has time for another deal. We may even be able to shift him early if Galvin and Fainu are ready for NRL.

They go down hill fast though. Look at Thurston. Greatest example of a playse gotmg one season too long. Cam Smith is the greatest example of a player making age look easy.100%. You seem like a good lad. We would probably get along. Don't listen to what @innsaneink says about me. I won't waste your time.100%. Just heard on morning radio we've pulled out of the race for Fonua Blake, new management same old same old
As long as we dont sell the farm for them.It seems some of us haven't listened to Shane Richardson's presser closely enough. While he did say juniors provide the base, he also said we need to have the cream. He described us having that cream with some exciting players (like Koroisau and Bula) but he seemed hungry for more. He stated it as not having "all our eggs in one basket" but alludes to having a balance between the cream and the base
As a QLDer, he doesnt worry me at all at 5/8th.played excellent in his debut series when NSW beat QLD 76-6 across two games and he missed the last game NSW lost. The last two years in Origin, he has been better than Cleary. Scored a try in the 2022 decider. Was excellent in game 1 this year. Game 2 was mission impossible with Damien Cook next to him at centre and a new halves partner up in Brisbane down 1-0. Put down the series loss to Freddy picking Nicho at 14 which cost us game 1 big time
I massively disagree. To say that he's not a top 25 player in the game is a ridiculous statement. Origin player, 3x premiership winner and Carried Samoa on his back to a World cup final playing halfback.Missing out on Luai would be a blessing.
We'd make him close to the highest paid player in the game when he's not a top 10 (and frankly top 25) player in the game.
At absolute best, he'd be a slight overpay for a number of years. At worst, a back-breaking contract which sets back our rebuild even further.
I would even cop the overpay if he at lesst showed he was elite at being the no.1 option and leader of his team. Instead we'd be paying him overs and top of the market salary for a role which would be unfamiliar and that he's ultimately unproven in.
Maybe he'd motivated to try and prove people wrong and add to his game? I guess that's a possibility. But jeez when you're paying close to 5m over the length of a deal, you want to be paying it to someone who's absolutely the finished product and not someone you're going to need to level up.
Not me. I think his money is better spent elsewhere.I do find it interesting that most people were on-board having a crack at AFB, including myself, and now Richo says we've withdrawn the offer, and many folks are saying "OK probably the right move".
If Pascoe had withdrawn the offer, same folks would probably have lost their minds.
Why do we need to pay him more than what the Bulldogs are offering him ?Question for the forum just curiosity - if you had the option of offering Luai to 2 deals.

Yes. Thursty's final season, following a GF appearance without him the year previous, was awful on every level. They go down hill fast though. Look at Thurston. Greatest example of a playse gotmg one season too long. Cam Smith is the greatest example of a player making age look easy.
Hang on....what you have said here mirrors what I just said to you.Benji will have final say on recruitment/retention within reason.
A good CEO such as Richo will advise on how much a player is worth in relation to our Salary Cap and will not approve paying what he believes is too much for any one player.
A big part of our past failures has been paying much more than the true value when recruiting. I think previous management succumbed to the pressure of being labelled a club that nobody wanted to sign for and succumbed to paying well above the market value for far too many recruits in the past.
It appears someone like Richo will not let that be the case while he’s in charge.
I still can’t see how Luai is worth 1 million dollars per season, but that’s another story.
