We may have paid less for Api initially (though I'd doubt it) but I'd guess we probably would have paid more when extending. They still have Thompson on stupid coin ($800k) don't they?
And in my mind they paid more for Mahoney than we did for Api. But you're not wrong, they still have cap to spare because their halves cupboard is real bare.
Honestly , I think the story going around is that Lobb is training the house down . I guess if youāre at training watching these guys , and the guy on a minimum salary/ development contract is running circles around the guy wants 500k a season , I mean yea.Hired assassin vibes. I feel ya
Still. Nice to have them
If you say we are paying Olam $400 + $400 + $600 = $1.4m over 3 yrs
Even if we paid tupou $500k for 3 years
Thatās only $100k more over 3 yrs
Iād pay that for a young tupou over an Olam for 3 yrs (last year olam going to be porridge I reckon) lol
Anyway Iāll shut up now about it- donāt want to bog down forum in things that have happened
I agree, but under assumption that we could not keep Moses, Aloiai and Matterson.Honestly , I think the story going around is that Lobb is training the house down . I will say this Tupou prior to round 15isj deserved the contract he just got . Tupou after round 15 , would have been plying is trade in KOE cup for any team not named the tigers last year . His form fell off a cliff .
I donāt feel like weāve made any real major retention mistakes lately in the last 3-4 years .
Like thereās been no one who youād say ā what the hellā about.
Prior tot his period thereās obviously Papenhuyzen and Addo Carr , etc.
Lobb, Alaimalo and Faataape provide depth and an injection of talent into the backs. They seem hungry for success and the club has done will to identify and recruit them.Honestly , I think the story going around is that Lobb is training the house down . You think about how many stars the dogs have, and they still came 15th.Kikau, Burton and Critta are all on over $800k each and when Fox signed he was the highest paid winger in the comp. I think they are still a long way off top 8 still as well
All 3 of the Fainu brothers have slotted in well so far .. it helped having the eldest already at the club. Latu especially is impressive to watch .. every time i see Sam he reminds of Stephano Utoikamanu hitting the ball up. Benji is watching him like a hawk .. it would not surprise if Latu is named on the bench come our first game Rd2 in Canberra. ;-)I agree on Faataape, very impressive in attack just hope he can aim up in defence. If so, he could be something out of the box!
What are your thoughts on the Fainu brothers from what you have seen at training @The-moP ?
Wouldn't go with certainties as I think their middle forwards are questionable and will struggle if depth is tested.Manly are certainties for the 8 if Turbo stays fit
Ah I just had a look and my memory was totally wrong, you're correct most outlets think that he's (Mahoney) getting $600k/year over 4 years. We may have paid less for Api initially (though I'd doubt it) but I'd guess we probably would have paid more when extending.
Bookmark itWouldn't go with certainties as I think their middle forwards are questionable and will struggle if depth is tested.
But, If their pack stands up and Turbo stays fit then I'd have them in my top 8 also.
Yeah, significantly better value. Mahoney has been trash without a rep forward pack to play behind whilst Api has only Harry Grant as a contender to best hooker in the comp claims imo.Ah I just had a look and my memory was totally wrong, you're correct most outlets think that he's (Mahoney) getting $600k/year over 4 years.
And I reckon you're right about Api too.
Either way we are getting far better value out of Api then they are getting for Reed.
What...I agree, but under assumption that we could not keep Moses, Aloiai and Matterson.
You are using dogs team prices for this year but included Luai who is 2025 in ours ,how about you use Sezers money in the comparison for ā24 to make it comparableI'll go further (values from Zerotackle which I don't rate as a source but easiest to use for this).
Crichton: 825K. Bula: 700K
Kikau: 800K. Bateman: 750K
Burton: 750K. Luai: 1.2M
Mahoney: 600K. Api: 700K
Addo-Carr: 550K Nofo: 525K
F-Mariner: 600k. Papali'i: 600k
Total: 4.125M. Total: 4.475M
I then think our "5 or 6 more" including Utoikamanu, Klemmer, Pole, Twal, 2 X Fainu, Sullivan would be on much more than their 5 or 6 more of Preston, Sutton, Curran, Kiraz, Tracey, Olauapu, Mann.
Do this for any team and I think Dogs would be spending far less.
No I took dogs team prices for 2025 since that is when they are recruiting for moving forward. You are using dogs team prices for this year but included Luai who is 2025 in ours ,how about you use Sezers money in the comparison for ā24 to make it comparable
I reckon the Warriors caught lightening in a bottle last year, think they rode the emotion of finally being back at home. SJ gets a year older and closer to the couch. Wouldn't surprise me if they fell down the pecking order a bit (still in the 8 but only just)You think about how many stars the dogs have, and they still came 15th.
Kikau, Burton, TJS, etc.
Now they have signed a few utilities and Critta... I don't think Ciraldo is doing a bad job, I just get how hard it is to make a bad team rise.
Look down the ladder. I see no change in the top 4, except their order:
Penrith
Broncos
Storm
Warriors
I only see movement in the next 4
Knights (stays same. maybe 6th)
Sharks (increases, team pushing for top 4).
Roosters ( out of the 8)
Raiders (missing players, out of the 8)
The Rabbits, I see trying to push into the 8.. but with John Morris leaving I wonder if the stars will rule the team down.
Then:
Eels - maybe back in the 8 or 9th.... or lower, most contracts are not up for renewal.
Cowboys - Honeymoon over, bottom 12.
Sea Eagles, 14-17
Dolphins - Will rise with a whole season behind them. They have a good forward pack and lots of talent. 10th or higher.
Titans - Des is a good coach that can get the most out of players. He will know who to snipe from manly (and strangely hasn't signed anyone significant from there) and he has the entire Gold coast recruitment to draw from... 11th
Bulldogs -- ?? They should be a top 8 squad. They have punted a stack of players and should be rising... But they haven't made it yet. I suspect they will get 13th.
Dragons - dead set last. (and if Flanagan gets them to even 16th he is an excellent coach).
The ladder is so crowded. I would like to see the Tigers rise, we just have to push other people out of the way.
Everything spoken about was for 2025.. including the Terrell May offer for 2025 that sparked this conversation. You also mentioned 2025 multiple times when saying that they have 10 spaces left in their top 30 for that year.No I took dogs team prices for 2025
