Coaching Insider

If the playing group are still on board with how Benji coaches, and remain on board at seasons end, that will be quite a feat. If he can achieve that after the year we have had then he has earned a shot at 25.
Tbh.

I care more about the club and the coach's setting a standard and not the players.

I’m trying to decide if Marshall was really going to rest Galvin before or after all the brouhaha ? Sort of sounds like something being sold to appease the fans.
And another thing, I heard Johnston say South’s are coming together as a team after a horror start. Training’s fun etc.
That is the second time today I’ve heard that , on TV today I saw an interview with Shane Flanagan who( I think) said that the year the Sharks won the comp they lost their first 5 games and then won 16 in a row.
He said they came together as a team and that made all the difference. He didn’t coach them any differently. So I guess success comes from within the group !
I’m not exactly sure how that happens but I know it’s not been happening for us recently, nor the previous several years.
Would love to know if there is a magic formula ?

After the run of losses Benji looks like a coach under pressure. Early in the year he was relaxed and showed humour. Now he is short and defensive. When he says he needs to look at himself and his coaching team and do better I wonder what changes. I want to see the relaxed and funny Benji. When we do that means something has changed. Maybe even a few wins.

Yeah? He was on the defensive from round one about the 24/7 coaching stuff.

Talent and a simple, clear system of how you want to play usually does it.

A complex mix of talent, confidence, love, brotherhood, and believing in something bigger than yourself. It’s a snowball effect when it happens and winning feeds it.

Oh.. and peptides.

Understandable with the sharks first 5 losses. Usually takes a few weeks for the drugs to kick in.

I usually like what Benji says but there were so many potholes in this one:
- Lots more energy in training this week and the boys are working harder (really? What happened before this?)
- Win was great for everyone and a big pressure reliever but we're making a concerted effort not to be complacent (we are 3-10, the pressure should be high!)
- Galvin has really lifted and bringing energy this week after committing to the club and he knows we always put him 1st (if he wasn't doing this before why was he in 1st grade?)

If I was tipping based on press conferences (and any sense based on our form and the way the Raiders belt us) I'd be tipping the Raiders. All the classic statements after a win which feel pretty hollow after a lacklustre follow up performance. But I'm tipping like a stupid tigers fan and it's us all the way!

Most interviews pretty much say the same thing.

Credit to the boys. Working hard for each other. Had a really good week at training. Stick to the game plan.

Anyone else care to add more?
