Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not trying to discredit your mail but why would Newcastle recently re-sign Gagai for two more years just to tell him he's free to leave months later?
Salary cap problems. It’ll hit the media soon about both players being told to look elsewhere.

Newcastle would like to send him here
Wests Tigers would like to have him here

It’s just whether Tyson Frizell wants to dig his boots in or if he’s happy to make the move.

Time will tell.

It’s what I’m hearing.

Frizell is a serious chance of being at the club by next year.

I personally like it - has the experience and is a leader, you can never question his effort he’s the perfect role model you’d want who’ll lead by action. He’d go really good next to Luai with that mindset.

He still is playing great football and won’t be on an overpaid or long deal as well.
I'd prefer Leo Thompson but Frizell wouldn't be a slouch like Klemmer has

Also something else I heard that was quite interesting…… don’t be surprised if the To’o to Tigers rumours start to heat up again the day after the GF.

Not dead yet.
Every time this rumour is dead and buried it resurrects again. Maybe impacting his player performance recently? He's been really poor the last 2 weeks

I like Frizell, always have, but would’ve preferred to sign him 5 years ago not now. It’s like Klemmer and countless others we have signed over the years, great players in their day, but past their best when they land here. They might have a great work ethic, leadership qualities and try really hard every game, but if we’re not getting the best out of them then what’s the point. Especially so in Frizell’s case if he would prefer to stay with Newcastle.
I tend to agree, though I think there's a key difference right now.

In the past, the older, more experienced recruits that have been bought, often on inflated contracts, to be THE guy.

Reynolds, Tamou, Bateman, etc.

We then gets the shits, rightly, when they can't carry the team out of the mire.

This time, I think we are more buying experience, on lesser deals, to fill the experience gap, whilst others within the side, the Luais, Bulas, Galvins, Latus, Apis and Samuelas of the world, do the heavy lifting around performance improvement.

I think, differently than in the past, that's where a guy like Frizell, on the right contract, can provide value.

Thanks Teddy23
Love the updates but it makes me laugh that clubs like Knights and fringe top 8 team have salary cap problems but Roosters with 16 rep players in the squad are all fine and above board. I don't buy that players go there for less because blind Freddy knows they get there money from others ways.

Happy to take TF as he adds that hard nose no nonsense player we lack to help develop all these kids.

Frizell is 32 at the moment, and no I don't think Williams is a better player as it stands right now, maybe in 2 years, who knows. Frizell whilst not my first choice is a proven enforcer, something everyone wants, someone who drives standards at training, something we really need, I can see some merit in it, much like Finucane did at Cronulla, lifted them back up to a top 4 team
100% 851.Frizell an absolute professional. Our young ones would def benefit from having him around.

So he didn’t play for the dogs then?
Balmain is closer to the entrance?
I can’t understand what would stop him.
Seriously though this is the sort of signing I’d rather see than Bird.
Although I do know we could do with some experience.
No.

This screams "Potential", not "performance".

We need players that are solid in the starting 17. We have far too many "next big thing" types and they won't progress while everyone around them is learning how to play.

Lets not sign the dogs reserve grade.

Damn he would be a ripper recruit if we can get him. Outstanding potential for any team for the next 5-7 years minimum
Those advocating for Frizell and Gagai should remember if the Knights have cap problems we should not be assisting. Thompson and perhaps Lucas may be forced out because the Knights are unable to afford him. I am a huge Frizell supporter but if the Knights want to move him up take the hint.

I think this guy is either his manager, a family member or is getting paid to get his name out there because all he seems to talk about is Mikey Nassar.
None of the above mate. I was asked a question and answered it. My son went to school with Mikey when he went to Holy Cross and I have seen him play since he was 7 or 8 years old against my son in club footy.

Having an opinion and answering a question is allowed mate if you don't like it move on champ, the extra "know it all" commentary isn't called for, please divert your keyboard warrior comments to someone else.

Frizell would be an astute recruit on a number of fronts, probably most importantly his leadership & standard-setting but also it would likely be only on a 2-year deal.

And what he takes in cap would become available at an important time for contract upgrades for a young guys progressing. By 2027, a Lachlan Broederlow, Mitchell Taotua, Archie Duncombe or even the highly-talented Pheonix Godinet may be ready to take over in the backrow.

Hate on him and bag him all you like, but to say he is not even starting at the dragons is just a lie, he starts every week he is fit, he is starting five eighth this week, as he was last week
Starting 5/8 because the coaches son is suspended.
Let us know how many games he has started and we can work out how many games he has missed through injuries.

13 starts, 1 bench in nrl and 4 nsw cup games so 18 games out of a possible 22 this year
