Like I say, there's no trick to it: you have to find players who contribute more than they cost in salary cap. If a club is obviously desperate to offload a player (or, more accurately, a player's contract) it stands to reason that they're less likely to be a superstar. But maybe the desperation comes through in the club being prepared to carry enough freight to make the deal worthwhile.I’m more talking about the players that the clubs put at the front of their shop window. We’ve jumped on them in the past. There are more desirable players behind them that the clubs aren’t making as much noise about but are still open to letting them move on.
I completely agree that just signing people willy nilly because they're available, famous and come at a discount to their existing contract is likely to be a bad idea. My point is that it's also wrong to rule anything out as a potential source of a useful, good value player. Even someone like Mbye would have been ok if he'd been taking up next to no cap room, for instance.
