What Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon does in his private/enterprise business is his to own. When you hand the keys over to one the world's largest powers everything matters including the way he presents himself.
Like Winston Churchill?

Sorry… but that would be the most one sided post you’ve made…. and unfortunately your hate is blinding you.
Kamala is a moron who will be run over by all the countries you mentioned.
Remind me again how many of them played up when he was in power?
Does Kamala still believe North Korea is an ally?

His looks have nothing to do with anything.
Its is merely a rage point.
What he says matters. I can understand people not liking his views on things and critiquing the job he is doing but to stoop so low as to attack his physical appearance says far more about the person than him.
It's about his judgement! He is 78 years old. If he doesn't know better at that age or worse still can't be told then there are serious questions about his cognitive intelligence for a job that impacts the world. Couldnt give a rat's how people dress or present themselves when they are the masters of their own destiny.

One more thought for the road. I’m sick to death of hearing from both sides that this will be the last election if the other one wins. It’s the most egregious lie. Life will go on regardless of who wins.

And with that, good night and good luck 🫡
Tell that to the 1.2m that died from a botched covid response and right wing conspiracies. Sometimes life doesn't go on from these decisions.

How is Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon a problem?

Firstly because the Australian defence strategy for 100 years has been predicated upon fostering long-term reliable alliances to help us protect our local interests. We have a very large land mass with very valuable resources, but we don't have the population to protect it alone and that population is also heavily focused in the South-East, i.e. not facing any potential enemies.

It would be less of an issue if our region wasn't home to some of the most dangerous potential belligerents - China and North Korea. It was Japan 80 years ago and if not for American intervention the Japanese could well have taken and still hold all of our Pacific neighbours.

Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon threatens all existing security agreements or re-working them more in America's favour - AUKUS, NATO, pacts with our Asian neighbours.

Secondly, Trumpian politics and their potential success influences the Australian political landscape. Dutton has already gone more populist in an attempt to beat down Labor.

Thirdly, any isolationist or protectionist policies from Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon will hurt Australian businesses. Australia runs a trade deficit with the US, we import roughly twice what we export to America. America is our 5th largest export market (roughly the same size as our combined exports to the EU). We also compete with the Americans in many industries like food and energy, so if they move to protect their industries they often directly out-compete Australian traders.

Thirdly Part 2 - if America does instigate a trade war specifically with China and it impacts the Chinese economy, that has direct impact on Australia as our largest export market.

Fourthly - there are very big question marks on Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon's position for climate change; he leans towards being a sceptic and he's in favour of the fossil fuel industry. If Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon walks away from climate accords it emboldens other countries to do the same. Unfortunately Australia has much to lose from climate change both because we are such a dry and hot country and because we rely heavily on the agriculture industry.

So even if some of these concerns end up being over-stated, the risk is there. The risk is palpable. We want and need stable and predictable allied and neighbouring governments, not chaotic autocrat-leaning rulers.
Mate. Whist I appreciate the time and effort to write this and largely agree with some of your points here, as you said, you've embellished for effect to help bolster your argument.

Unless you're going to do the same for the Democrats, it's an exercise in futility.

For example, in response to point 3 (in which you've made a raft of assumptions) under the Dems, the Ukraine War and Israel/Pal war have escalated to ridiculous proportions. There has been widespread import and supply-chain implications for that not only here, but across the globe. This has hit inflation and cost of living back pockets left, right and centre. They have been terrible/impotent at mitigating those. Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon has a track record, in his first term, of limiting large, overseas conflict. He kept Putin, Netanyahu and Kim at bay.

That is a fact.

So, whilst I agree that there COULD be implications for a new tariff approach with China specifically, remember, that the trickle down percentage trade shifts are unknown, meaning, China may shift its trade policy to protect itself, possibly ramping up Australian exports or imports in response to a more expensive trade process with the US.

Additionally, Australia operates in a free trade agreement with the US and there have been ZERO signs or indications that Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon intends or has suggested changing that. In fact, as one of the US's staunchest allies, it wouldn't make sense to do so.

Furthermore, tariff changes in the US are used, or are proposed to be used for a number of reasons, including with Mexico to address immigration, with China/NK, etc to impose strategic sanctions, or, namely, as he has said, to bolster the local economy, which, as the US is an important trade partner with Australia, would improve or increase these metrics.

There are a lot of balls in the air with this one. But it is a fool's errand to make too many down-the-road assumptions, particularly as it pertains to topics as complex as this.

Once again, I respect your opinion and the time taken to respond in such a detailed manner.

I would put it to you that a lot of his "supporters" are voting Republican or more importantly, getting rid of the Democrats. Yes many think the Don is good. He is charasmatic, has a strange turn of phrase that promotes humour, understands how to work a crowd etc....Ill bet there are just as many who dont particularly like him, but voted his way in this election to unseat the distatseful machine that the left has turned into.

Not a number that’s going to move the needle. Republicans who are done with him and will stay home will have a bigger impact.

He just looks like an old man. Didn’t stand out too much up against Biden, but the contrast up against Kamala is glaring. That garbage truck deal, trying to reach for the door and almost falling on his arse exposed him even more. Whoever green lit that obviously hates him. You could almost make a case for elder abuse.

Au contraire, I've seen the opposite, democrats and
centrists fed up & becoming more conservative
in recent times. That's at least from my own POV

Yes, I'm happy with the that. Zelensky is a clown,
NATO are full of shit too. BRICS is on the rise....

Related question and pertinent with Russia and the largest south Asian nation at our doorstep holding military exercises. Honestly please, how large a portion of quality Australian land including resources would you be happy to leave permanently annexed by say Indonesia, or Lebanon by say Israel, some 20% as Russia has today, or how much more or less, or none?

Every forum has a general discussion sub-forum there is only so much footy you can talk about especially in the offseason
I agree, pretty funny to be complaining about discussions on a fairly dense topic... the football threads are pretty fatuous at the moment with zero action and zero horse trading.

This is in fact the perfect time to talk about something other than footy with people you might have a long-term discussion experience with.

It’s not like it’s highjacking a footy related thread, which I would get

No need to worry, as Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon is appointing Kennedy Jnr to sort the health, helping by making things like measles great again (he helped Samoa), possibly polio, and maybe even smallpox.

Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon is screaming about voter fraud in Philadelphia and Jason Miller and Charlie Kirk are claiming male turnout is low. Read into that what you will.
