In their defence, the system has worked flawlessly. The club board up until the last 6 months has been stable for the last near 70 years.

It's allowed the club to grow and build their current premises (I think in the 1980's), then extend and build the car park in the 2010's....and have the capital to buy Campbelltowns shares in WTs in 2012, bailout Balmain to the tune of $8.5 million in 2016, and then a further $3.2m bailout in 2020/2021 (the Amalgamation).

The club routinely donates significant monies to local organisations directly or via the Club Grants system.

Have your own opinion of their ownership of Wests Tigers, but when you consider their financial performance at club level, the board has worked well, the club has grown and has thrived. Aside from the performance of a part owned football club, the board has performed well.

Not sure how that can be questioned.

No ...I'm not a member
Real question is whether the club would have done similarly fine without the debenture system.

Wests Campbelltown are doing well and they no longer have oversight from the Wests Ashfield debentures. Bulldogs Leagues club doing great and they don't have a debenture system at all.

But I don't think anyone here really cares too much who gets credit for Wests Ashfield making money off poker machines, the real question is what those Leagues Club people contribute to the running of the first grade football club, being a totally separate consideration and separate skillset required.

So perhaps yes the Wests Ashfield folks have done just fine managing a Registered Club for 70 years, but very much worse in whatever they've contributed to attempting to manage Wests Magpies and then Wests Tigers in that same period.

But for may years, the silly 2 year rolling chair from one side then the other.... It mostly just changed the strategic direction of the club as Balmain wanted to things their way, Wests wanted to do things their way.... Both were in contradiction and opposing views on strategy, so the club lurched from one direction to another.
Who was in charge 2005 and/or 2010-11 and can we have them back in charge please?

Correct, and a system might work fine for one part of a business, but be completely inappropriate for another part. The debenture system has allowed people who have an interest in a football team to wield their power, but they should have been part of the club’s governance to serve the leagues club and its members.

Nailed it.

Sheens, he just paid no notice to the hierarchy above him and did what he wanted. He’s the only coach that was beholden to the whims of the club “leaders”.
And you have to give them some credit for letting Sheens do Sheens. Politis is always in the background pulling strings at Easts, but I’ll bet he never tries to coach or swim outside his lane.

Pascoe on the recruiting committee still makes me chuckle.
