Alex Seyfarth #232

Jarome does a pretty good job of unlocking the edges playing outside of him. If we have Red running off of him I think we'll see a lot more tries like the one he scored against Manly running off Latu.
The one thing I will give Seyfarth credit for is he runs a good line every now and then and jags a try. I think it's more because the opposition don't respect him and can usually dominate him in defence, so he is given more space than Samuela. What I don't like about Seyfarth is our right edge defence is horrible when he played there throughout this year. Yes, a great deal of it had to do with other teams targeting Galvin and Mason (when he played there) however Alex needed to be better at locking things up. I love his spirit and passion however I don't see the good outweighing the bad.

He provides good energy and work rate in attack and defence when coming off the bench as a middle.

Hope he has a spot in the 17 next year. My favourite player all effort & will bleed for the jersey. I'd start him over Samuela on the edge & let Sammy come on as a middle & wreak havoc.
LOL start him over Sam Fainu?? I know it's Melbourne Cup day but it's a bit early to be on the piss isn't it. Only place Seyfarth should be starting is on the edge for the Magpies.

LMAO yes, let’s keep starting the guy who was statistically the most ineffective starting second rower in the comp over last season until Benji wised up and benched him.

You can support him and your precious Magpies in NSW Cup.

Here’s how he was comparing after about 10 rounds as a starter. I’ll update with the remaining ~5 games he started in when I get the chance.

Here’s his per game stats up to RD21

You could also use your eyes and brain but I understand Magpie supporters struggle with both those things.
Better send this to Benji then, cos he seems to see it differently

I would but it wouldn’t matter, according to you. After all, wasn’t it you who’s been questioning Benjis coaching all season? Claiming he’d rather be a friend first than a coach?
What’s that got to do with the price of rice in China? What Joe Blow on a forum thinks of a player means jack shit. Don’t take your anger out on him. Take it out on the ones who pick him every week.

LMAO you brought Benji into it, genius. I didn’t even mention him nor did the other poster. I called him out for stanning for a mediocre player which all the stats show is an objective fact. But I know you sometimes struggle with reading comprehension and have a side of the ‘tism so I’ll let it slide, champ 👍

But he’s not the one picking him, so what’s it matter? Blame the coach.

Firstly, I’d like to say I also believe that Alex had a fairly lacklustre year last year and based on that he should be in NSW Cup to start the year only coming into first grade as cover or if he has earned a promotion by playing out of his skin.

However, your statistics are not comparable and could be improved.
Firstly your sample size is 1 second rower from every team and based on what I know it appears to be each teams strongest 2ndrower, but Alex is certainly not our strongest 2ndrower, Sam Fainu is. Most teams have 2 or 3 2nd rowers in the line up so if you wanted to prove your point that he was statistically the most innefective starting 2nd rower in the comp (which he probably was with Sukkar) then you need to compare him with 33 other 2nd rowers not just 16. Secondly Koloamatangi had played a majority of the season as a prop (although he might have played first 9 as second row), so not worth comparing.

The other thing is your statistics are probably best shown on a minutes per statistic basis as well as the aggregate scores (although not for run metres). It makes it a lot easier to see that players output on a comparable scale to effectively compare between the two. I would also include tackle efficiency if you are going to show missed and made tackles even though there is a lot more to defence than just that. And things like tackle breaks, line breaks are important statistics for 2ndRowers.

Appreciate the response and feedback. I pulled these together in less than 10 minutes at the time so they’re not the most comprehensive collection of stats but they present a pretty clear picture. From memory, I think the list contained starting right side 2nd rowers for a fair comparison.

Agreed regarding per minute stats and I thought I had one which showed the stats per minute but I can’t track it down. For what it’s worth, I seriously doubt things like TB and LB will help Seyfarths case as he couldn’t break his way out of a wet paper bag.

Seyfarth was only filling in as an edge 2nd rower as we had nobody else.
As of 2026 he will be back in his favoured middle forward rotation.
I cannot believe we still have supporters wanting believe Seyfarth on a contract of around 350k is a big reason why our team struggles ?
He doesn’t set the world on fire, but for his contract value he is not supposed to and you will struggle to find many forwards much better on the same contract value.
You must be on planet Mars if you honestly think our players on contracts of 400k or less are what’s causing us to keep missing the top 8.

Who’s pinned all the teams struggles on Seyfarth & said he’s the reason we’re missing the top 8?
