2011 Melbourne Cup

Yoss Americain was checked for a run slightly around the 700 metre mark
3 minutes 20 is pretty slowly run race
Record is about 3.12 -3.13 off the top of my head
Correction 3.16 race record

Well the track was what Good 3? 3:20 isn't too bad considering there was no pace in the opening 1000m. If you look at recent times that 3:16 is more an exception than typical.

Couldn't say what the track was like for all those years but I'm assuming some of the time it was at least good.

Americains trainer said the firm going didnt help…..I think it was eventually rated 'good'

they watered the track the night prior but the rain they expected didnt eventuate.

No ones talkin thru their kicks here eh?

No don't think so Ink Should of stuck to my own advice when I said that the Melbourne Cup now is one of the hardest betting races as it is impossible to draw comparisons between horses

Too right, Happy! I think 3 of my horses were among the last 5 home - some great work by me there!

I didn't enjoy the race at all. Not just because I didn't win anything, but the lack of a real pacesetter destroyed it, I reckon. The horses were just so bunched all the way through. What I don't understand is why Jukebox Jury didn't step up and take on the pacesetter role. He is a noted front runner, who has won all of his races from this position. I haven't heard any post mortems on the race, so I don't know what his jockey had to say, but for a long distance stayer, in great form leading into the cup, he really disappointed yesterday.

I can handle overseas horses winning the Cup But sorry I got to draw a line in the sand when the French win and I have to hear the poncing around

Cadel won the tour de france, its only fair, we let them have something!

Hang on we sacrificed thousands of troops to help them get their country back twice because they continually surrendered

WW2 they lasted a week

They should of been giving us a percentage of their GNP ever since

But what do they do Treat you like crap when you visit their country because you can't get a pronunciation right they should be kissing our feet

All horses in the future should be forced to run at least once in our country before the Cup

Dundendon did, he won the geelong cup… lucas cranach ran in caulfield cup...
its something like going back to 1996 that the winner came from overseas without atleast 1 run under its belt!

I don't know about running once in Oz but some of those starters this year were very ordinary. Two horses had only won a race each (in both cases a maiden). There needs to be more ballot exempt races in Aust.
