2012-2013 Football (Sokkah) Thread

Lucas Neil is a blight on the Socceroos, he comes out AS CAPTAIN when he's under the pump and slags off all the younger guys in the team, and has the audacity to have a sook when anyone calls him on his bs (past players or fans). I really hope he's not on the plane to Brazil, give the captains armband to Jedinak or Cahill.

That said I felt the side did a good job against Costa Rica, whilst they didn't throw much at us, we still were very convincing in the win. I really hope Rogic can get some game time under his belt before the cup, because the kid is a star. He's a great long term prospect in an attacking midfield role with Oar and Kruse down the wings, if we can find a good fit at strike once Cahill goes we'll have our attack all sorted (some options include Leckie, Troisi and Juric).

Holman needs to be kept IMO

**Lucas Neill isn't a central defender and his age combined with that makes me believe he is finished**

I'm up in the air with Bresciano as well

Tommy Oar needs to be utilised as well as Kruse

And if by some miracle we can find an out and out striker , Cahill needs to play as a midfielder who can push forward

Schwarzer must stay , he is keeping as well as ever

My set up would be a 3 2 4 1 .

I think we can get our defence right , but will still struggle to score goals v the top sides

That wasn't you that was abusing him from the stands the other night was it? Seriously, Lucas Neill needs to swallow some heart-Viagra and toughen up, what a friggin sook. He needs to be told that if Australians think that someone is an imposter then they will boo the bastard. What a thin-skinned tart he is. Glad Benny Elias or Wally Lewis weren't so sensitive when it came to getting a gobful from the crowd.
Neill is an embarrassment to Australian sport.

I still have a soft spot for Neill as an ex Hammer FTB

Yeah he's really turned a lot of people off himself over the last couple of years.

I agree about our prospects looking really good in the future. Babalj is a young striker with AZ Alkamar at the moment but he's been injured there since his move from Melbourne Heart. He's a traditional number 9 still fairly young and definately an option if he can get his career together.
One player who has fallen of the radar is Nikita Rukavytsia (spelling is incorrect). He's quick, gangly and a dangerous prospect but a bit like Spiranovic and Troisi (and many other younger players) has had indifferent club form.

As a sokkah outsider, the only embarrassment I saw was the Australian 'fans' booing their own captain on his own turf. Disgraceful stuff. Reminded me of the bad old days when NSW maggots used to boo the King when he was captaining their national side and winning games for them.

Rubbish, Lucas gets boo'd because he's past his best and puts all his failures on the other members of the team or has a sook when someone in the media rightfully calls him out.

Imagine if the Australian cricket team made Watson captain, he went 5 years averaging 20 with the bat and 50 with the ball, and whenever someone questioned his spot in the team his response was something to the tune of "I expect better from a friend" or "I have the hunger, I want the younger guys in the side to show me the hunger."

Bang on MM.

The bloke fobs off responsibility for his failures onto the kids who are playing out of their skin to crack a place in the starting team. That's un-Australian.

Well if he isnt playing well then he shouldnt be selected….blame the selectors.
If he is overly critical of the new players to the team then the team management should sanction him.

...but for Australian supporters to don the jersey, pay to go to an international and spend their time abusing and booing the captain is a bad look and a dog act.

In football, the coach is the only selector. And he got scaled recently. A few football commentators have also voiced their displeasure of Lucas being captain and remaining in the team. The fans booing him when he got the ball is the only way for some of the public to get their displeasure across to him outside a Facebook page or twitter hashtag. Some of the things Lucas has said, outside of his on-field performance have been short of what many would expect from a captain.

Strange game between Roar and Wanderers

Roar controlled the game for the first twenty minutes and then fell asleep

Good win in the end , some of Brisbane strikes were quality goals

:unamused: Aussie sports fans are passionate and smart enough to know when they are witnessing a malingerer, so they boo them. Big deal. Lucas Neill is a passenger regardless of what jumper you dress him up in. Surely people aren't so touchy and politically correct that they will ignore that fact and break out the pom poms and party favors just so that they aren't thought of as un-Australian.

As for King Wally, he was (and still is with his one-eyed Bronco commentating) very hard to like. Not surprising that certain supporters didn't roll out the VIP treatment for him TBH. Full marks to you for going into bat for a fellow Maroon though (I swear if Adolf Hitler was from north of the Tweed then Queenslanders to a man would be bleating "give him a break, he wasn't a bad bloke).

Strange indeed seeing all those numbnuts arm in arm - backs to the action jumping up & down looking at the blokes backs in front of them

Fools

Thats "atmosphere" apparantly. Can't see the attraction there myself either.

Would depend what position Adolf played FTB

And anyway I don't think we could fit him under the cap

Rumour has it he will captain coach NSW in 2015

It was a bit of a strange game. Wanderers didn't take their chance and the Roar did. These 2 teams will be right up there all year one feels.

Well we haven't got any favours in the World Cup draw

Drawn with Spain (1st in the world) ,Netherlands (9th in the world) and Chile (15th in the world)

Top 2 go through

By some miracle we get 2nd in the group , we will get the hosts Brazil (more than likely)

We play Chile 1st ,Netherlands 2nd and Spain 3rd

Nowhere to hide for the Soccerroos. They either make a statement, or plans for 2018.

I wake-up to see we have Chile, the Netherlands and Spain in our World Cup group. The media gets it's group of death and the players get their opportunity to play a few of the best players and teams in the world. Aussie fans have given up but I hope the team hasn't. There's no point in making a World Cup and praying for a generous group to get out of the group stage. You always want to play the best and this is an opportunity to show the Aussie spirit. Relish the opportunity rather then dread it. Make a name for yourself.

Couldn't agree more mate, you in a World Cup, and to be the best, you have to play the best.

When was the last time a group contained the reigning champions and runners up? That has to be a first. Going to be really tough, all 3 teams have some great attacking players and our defence has been a complete shambles over the past year or so. Ange has to get the back 4 sorted out or a few more 6-0 results could come our way.
