**International Federation of Football History and Statistics ranks A-League at 99 in world rankings**
>
PREMIER LEAGUE or La Liga?
>
Is the Bundesliga the sleeping giant?
>
How does the A-League stack up?
>
It's a classic coffee shop talking point for football fans and the International Federation of Football History & Statistics has added to the debate by releasing its annual list of the world's top 125 football leagues.
>
Spain's La Liga tops the pile ahead of the Premier League and Bundesliga, but Australia's A-League only scrapes into the top 100, ranked 99th.
>
Play
It's a drop from No.52 last year, sitting behind the likes of Zimbabwe, Zambia and Congo.
>
The rankings, produced annually since 1991, sees Italy, Brazil, Argentina, France, Russia, Colombia and Romania round out the top 10\. The J-League is 30th, and Major League Soccer is ranked 49th.
>
The federation says its rankings are completely based on data, with no subjective interference, "on the basis of all national (championship, FA Cup) and (inter)continental (confederations & FIFA club competitions) results of the clubs".
>
For Australia to climb the list, we'll need to see Central Coast, Western Sydney and Melbourne Victory exceed last year's efforts (Brisbane Roar, qualifying rounds, and Central Coast Mariners, round of 16) in the AFC Champions League.
