2012 Halfback Super-Thread

I think people are kidding themselves if they think Carney is an option…..good player yes, but he doesn't have his head screwed on right.

As Muffstar just pointed out about the Sponsors, yeah I can't see them being too thrilled in picking up a serial trouble maker in Carney after, potentially, offloading Lui.

So, again, I think the only real options the club can take are trying out Miller or bringing in someone like Prince to fill the gap until Miller is ready.

Are there any other options for the club to take?

Vicious, for one minute Iam not endorsing Prince and iam with you and think their are a lot better options than Scott prince but it seems the club is interested.

I'll back the club on whatever direction they take, as long we don't lose Miller. That would be bad management.

Miller has not been given a proper go at NRL level. Yes, he has played a few games with little impact, but he was basically put in a back set while Farah ran the show. Miller needs to be given proper time and be shown patience while he learns to play a halfback role (his own natural game!) at a higher level. If that is NYC, State Cup or NRL I don't mind, as long we hang on to him.

how would we fit Prince under the salary cap? unless he came cheap because the titans had to keep paying him?? and what about his family who wanted to move back north?? it would seem to be a long shot.. besides have the titans got a replacement half?

Exactly prince is on big money, if we get rid if lui, he is on no where near the cash that Prince would require.

Miller is close to the best half in NYC, despite an earlier post, but to get as hopeful that he would do what DCE has done is very optimistic.

DCE was SOOO dominant at NYC level and did a full year apprenticeship in QLD cup which is alot stronger than NSW cup at present and was player of the year, miller does not have that sort of form.

That said tho, Miller as pedigree, NSW U/18 player (and well deserved) coupled with NYC half back of the year, augurs well for a good NRL career, the question is, is 2012 too soon….Im not sure either way

A question Have we won a game of NRL with Miller playing at half ???? Didn't think we had

WTF???

The answer is simple. We don't need to sign anyone. Benji to halfback, Lawrence to Five-Eighth.

Benji won the best player in the world award playing at 5/8, and Lawrence is our best outside back and one of the best centres in the game. Pending injury he would've player Origin this year.

Why move two of the best players in their respective positions?

I can give you two reasons. Lockyer and Slater.

The only place that I would move Marshall is the fullback position. If Carney comes, 5/8 and Miller to half.

Big fast centres in Lawrence and Reddy and two big fast wingers in Lote and Grant. With the unpredictable Benji chiming in anywhere and everywhere. Mouth watering stuff.

I reckon Prince will be a great acquisition if the Gold Coast take a large portion of his cap on their books for the remaining 2 years.

Buying him at full price would be a mistake.

Tigerdave, sponsors don`t want to know about teams that don`t perform on the field, without a decent number seven we will struggle, there are no "ifs and buts" about it.

Pair Todd Carney with Benji Marshall and we`ll be winning the competition in `2012 and everyone will be happy, most importantly the sponsors as EVERYONE loves a WINNER!!!

For the record, Todd Carney has no issue other than the fact that he is much more heavily scrutinised than anyone else everytime he has a beer, all because he was told to say he is an alcaholic to beat a drink driving charge.
People need to get it through their heads that Todd Carney is not an alcaholic, he is a binge drinker just like 99% of others his age. He hasn`t turned up to training, to games or to club functions drunk and he certainly keeps himself in top condition fitness wise, peoples issues with Todd Carney have been blown way out of proportion.

Look, I agree he's a good player, you won't get an argument about that. Fact is though, he's an idiot and given the club is currently having some very bad press in regards to 1 player, it does not make any sense to bring in someone else who could potentially bring the club into disrepute as well.

Yes, he's not an alco, yes what he's done is not in the same league, it's not even the same sport, as what's currently happening with Lui. However, bad press is still bad press, something sponsors would not want. Now given Carney's track record and the fact he's certainly been given plenty of chances, why would we believe he'll suddenly change at yet another club?

I don't think he's worth the risk, regardless of his playing ability. I don't believe it will be a case of 'if' he stuff's up again, more of a 'when' and in that case, we would be without him anyway which would cause far more disruption in the side than giving Miller a go or even bringing in someone like Prince.

Given how scrutinised the guy is, as you just mentioned, there's a good likelyhood the club will be in the papers again for all the wrong reasons. I'm sorry, we've had our Terry Lamb's, we've had our Hoppa's and Craig Field's, let's not take a chance that we'll be going back to that.

Of course he has an issue, he doesn't learn from his mistakes or refuses to learn. Which doesn't bode too well for any club signing him.

There's no guarantee of that come on, is there a chance? sure, is there a greater chance he does something stupid and we are without him anyway? you bet.

If the club does not feel that Miller will be up to the task, then we're better off looking elsewhere and not have our club dragged through the mud again.

No he just leads the police on a wild chase and then legs it when he crashes the car… Oh and jumps on police cars and urinates on members of the public.

Blown out of proportion? Please - give me a break and cry me a river. The bloke is a clown of the highest order.

Some of you people are dead set kidding yourselves, Scott Prince is now old and slow, injury prone and way past his best, he has never been a good defender and will not help us one little bit.
I`ve heard other people mention Matt Orford, he`s much the same as Scott Prince only more past it.

The only player who is available, who we can sign for a good price and will ensure that we win the competition in `2012 is Todd Carney.
There is not a rival football side on the planet that could control Benji and Todd Carney at full flight, simple as that!

I think this years incidents with Carney have been blown up a bit. He cant fart in public without it being reported in the Daily Terror. That aside, if RL gets the boot, are you prepared for the possible repercussions if TC steps out of line? More importantly: are the sponsors prepared to wear him?

Read in the papers? What are you is PR agent or something? Are you really suggesting these things didn't happen?

These are police incidents that he went to court for and was found guilty. They aren't made up by the press. He did refuse to stop his car with the police in pursuit with their lights flashing. He did run away when the car finally stopped (because he drove into a cul-de-sac). He was sentenced to community service and got a good behaviour bond. At another time he did jump on a police car and damage private property and received a suspend gaol sentence.

But if you want to keep suggesting its all a beat-up be my guest. The guy has zero respect for the law or the public.

In any case Yoss, I reckon only Bennett or Sheens would able to keep Carney on the straight and narrow. Sign him up for a single year deal and have a no grog & zero tolerance clause on it and breath test him at training. He messes up, instant dismissal and request with the NRL to deregister him so that stops him signing from any other clubs.

I reckon Miller is ready for a shot, but we shall see at the beginning of next season depend how the Lui case will play out.

It's the only way you could have him but given the lack of respect he's shown at Canberra and the Roosters for club authority you'd have to have doubts still. He's very talented but gee it's last chance and take it or leave it for Todd.

Vicious I have seen him in action many a time. The bloke is no good on the drink. Being a young fella it is his right to go out regularly. Thats why he keeps getting into trouble…he is a normal bloke who cant handle, yet still loves his grog. He is no alco...he is just a 2 pot screamer who turns into an utter a-hole on the sauce.

Carney's attitude is disgusting. He has one of the best jobs in the world and has been given the chance to play first grade, a dream so many talented young footballers have, yet he constantly pisses it away.

I'd rather give the spot to someone who will genuinely work hard and value the opportunity they've been given. You want to see players with a smile on their face. Look at Daly Cherry-Evans. You can tell he absolutely LOVES playing football. Carney takes it for granted.

no way could i endorse todd carney at the tigers. he is an enormous talent, but that is not enough, he has a poor attitude and refuses to fit into the team environment.

Id much rather give Miller or some other young bloke a crack

Vicious Carney has turned up to training under the influence
It happened approximately a week before his mid season ban from the club
A guy I know who is a Roosters tragic who knows someone at the club gave me heads up a few days before
I gave a few on the forum the heads up about it also

**He messes up, instant dismissal and request with the NRL to deregister him so that stops him signing from any other clubs.**

And when that happens in the middle of the season, the Tigers are left without an NRL half-back and there is no chance to recruit one MID SEASON! This was one of the reasons why we were in trouble, when Scott Prince left the club. WE HAD NO DECENT HALF-BACK, so the team was virtually leaderless for two seasons or more.

Do you think that is good planning, when we have tried to run a club without any idiots on our roster to bring a tried-and-true one into the club?
