Bennett was doing exactly what players have done in using WT interest to leverage better deals elsewhere. We had no real hope of getting him.

As for Johnston, if he doesn't diss WT I've no problems with going after him later but if g e publicly diss's WT like Arrow did we should never consider him again. Pride guys.

what did Arrow say?

It's somewhere back in the past threads here, very basically he would rather go to mars than play for WT. I'm probably wrong in location mentioned but you get the drift.

I think you’re wrong, period. He’s not record as saying that anywhere. At best, someone repeated it as second hand info. And we all know how on the money insiders have been since this circus started.

Has any insider got anything right? There hasn't been a scoop on here for years.

Maybe wrong, dunno. But, my basic point remains if any player diss's WT we have nothing to do with them, period.

I'm going to go on record and say Latrell is the only potential Souths backliner that I'm enthused by or specifically impressed with. I don't know why all the fuss over their current backline and salary cap, because I'm fairly indifferent to some of their footballers.

Doueihi seems a really good kid, good footballing heart and grit. I think he lacks strength in the tackle and lacks finesse to his game. I would be fine if there was some deal with Tigers to get him back, but he's hardly setting the game alight and IMO no better a prospect than Momirovski already is, just different best positions. IMO Doueihi isn't that much better than Thompson either, just taller. I think too many people watched Doueihi in a few finals games and became enamoured.

AJ I don't rate, never have. He's got Tim Moltzen all over him, and yes he's scored tries backing up, so has Robert Jennings.

Campbell Graham - not seeing it myself. Big unit, still a kid, fast enough. Absolutely no reaction whatsoever on his face during games, which I find odd. Where is the passion? Wayne tried him out at centers, I don't think he's your first-choice there. Got mauled by Roosters in last year's finals, so he needs more meat on that tall frame.

Braidon Burns - hasn't done anything of note. Was really really ordinary on debut but seems to have steadied himself into an ok centre of no particular merit or deficiency.

Jimmy Jet - every few years he hits a real peak and is nearly untouchable for half a season. Not sure if 2020 will be one of those years, but he's not getting any younger.

Dane Gagai - we all know, ace at Origin and extraordinarly average at club level.

Cody Walker - really likeable footballer, like an agile Cliff Lyons, absolute touch football talent. Typically cannot step up in the crunch games - finals, Origin. I like him a lot but he needs specific conditions to excel, like early season.

Adam Reynolds - unparalleled kicking capacity, so long as there is a platform. Tries hard the rest of times, decent little halfback.

Corey Allan - uninspiring so far. Can do a job at FB or wing or even centre, but far from impressive. Fairly ordinary defensively at FB.

Bryson Goodwin - back from the dead, no idea how he was going in UK.

That's their first tier backline options, overall I don't see the fuss.

Tedesco-Giraffe-Latrell-Manu-Morris-Keary-Cronk - now there is a star-studded backline to be complaining about.

And yet even with that very poor backline they manage to make the eight, and as for the west’s tigers yer there’s always next year

Well let's judge that at the end of 2020.

It's not a poor backline altogether, that isn't what I said, I just don't think any of them are particularly impressive footballers alone, except Latrell. Thinking in the context of "which Souths player would greatly improve the Tigers backline". I'd probably take Cody Walker next after Latrell. They perform ok as a unit.

Losing Sam Burgess is just enormous for Souths and they haven't come close to replacing him. That will flow on to the backline IMO.

Ok I do agree with this post and just like everyone else on this forum I want the club to successfull club, as for judging them I have got the last 20 years of there history it’s not so good

Great assessment. Agree 100%. Would take Douiehi for slightly more than Thomo $$ or around Momo $$ but that would be enough to break his contract.

Personally Im not seeing the need to buy someone just for the sake of it. That player is then on our books for 3 years and we may miss another opportunity.

Burns is a great attacking centre, he just needs to stay fit. Graham will be a bigger aerial threat this season given the rule change. If Latrell and his pudding guts aren't fit enough to play fullback I think Roberts might be the one to miss out.

1. Doueihi/Johnston 2. Gagai 3. Burns 4. Mitchell 5 Graham

Fair enough, but how many of our current backline would make the Souths starting side? I can't think of one.

Madge IS breaking the cycle.

Cleary signed for the sake of it and now we have Packer, Reynolds & Mbye on massive $$$ and flat out getting a first grade spot, and that is exactly how you get to the point where you have no cap to spend.

That is a cycle Im happy to break and I think it is a very encouraging sign that we havent signed any nuffies.

Our additions this year, Leilua, Musgrove and Stefano (hopefully) are good additions for low money.

Or, in other words, we just might not be in a horrible tunnel at all. Titans are in a horrible tunnel. St George are quite possibly in a horrible tunnel.

We've been 9th three of the last four seasons, after several years of coach and roster upheaval. Not good but not so bad either.

Maybe I'm in the half glass empty camp. But it just seems that it never changes for us. I believe Madge is the most positive addition to our Club for a long time. We have a huge war chest for 2021, if we miss the 8 again in 2020 we will have to pay overs for mediocre players like Packer and Reynolds and McQueen again for 2021.
