Are they playing for the coach?

Backline next week

1. Laurie
2. Nofa
3. Roberts
4. Mbye
5. Talau
6. Doueihi
7. Madden

Forwards held their own, but Musgrove will probably be in for Mikaele

Playing for the coach is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Almost as stupid as this thread. Once you put a jersey on and your doing this as a full time job (earning huge amount of money) you go out there with your pride and integrity and give it 110%. You put your body on the line and keep going even when things don’t go your way or you have no energy left. This isn’t on the coach it’s on each and every individual to deliver.

And here are the ruffled feathers. You can sure hold a grudge lol

Hold a grudge for having an opinion? My opinion is and always will be that once you put a jersey on then you give 110%. You don’t watch the play like AJ did and leave your man unmarked. You don’t rush out of the line like BJ does and then not make the tackle. You don’t keep giving the opposition 7 tackle sets like Brooks does. It doesn’t matter who the coach is. It’s about having pride in your jersey and in doing the job you get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do. We can agree to disagree but that’s my opinion.

And whose decision was it to keep BJ over say Momo, whose now looking like a star in a top 4 side. And who re-signed Brooks for 5 years. Hmm?

They’re not a top 4 squad but they’re also nowhere near as bad as they have been in the first two rounds. There is no structure and they don’t seem to care - there is no motivation.

With the exception of Mbye every player yesterday was signed or re-signed by Madge. This is his 3rd year at the helm and we’ve seen a gradually better roster contrasted with a consistent decline in performances. Regardless of his previous success, he’s been unable to get this team going. We look worse than last year.

This is what irritates me so much. Why are they getting worse? We have a significantly better roster than years past but aren't even putting up a fight

Even though they lost yesterday, the Sharks tried their absolute guts out for an unheralded coach under a heap of pressure. That’s a team playing for their coach that genuinely cares.

And here are the ruffled feathers. Such a stupid thread, yet 2 players over the last 2 years have walked out on him. How terrible that questions might be asked. As usual, playing the man, not the ball. Boring.

Latrell Mitchell walked out on Robinson. Cooper Cronk walked out on Bellamy. A whole 2 players walked out on him. Matterson was in the state of origin squad with us , hows he going now. Alioa is the other one. Did you want us to pay $650k for him?? Because If you did , you’d be the only one in the world who would.

Latrell was forced out. I know a guy who knows uncle Nick personally. He wanted him gone. And Cronk did it because of his Mrs and her work. I agree with the Aloiai comment

Lol. Cronk moved to Sydney to be with his wife at the end of his contract and Mitchell left for a number of reasons, mainly his desire to play fullback. Matters on was in the 64 man squad for origin, never made the actual team.

Jesus, that’s some serious straw clutching. Mitchell didn’t walk out on Robinson, Robinson punted him. As for Cronk, yeah, he really left cos he didn’t rate CRAIG BELLAMY lol. You say this is a stupid thread, yet in nearly 7 pages, most agree with me lol lol lol

Wasn’t asking for reasons. If they were playing for the coach why wouldn’t they stay in their successful teams. My point is players will always move clubs for multiple reasons regardless of who the coach is.
So no one else has walked out on any other team in the NRL in the last 2 years? Interesting.

Straw clutching lol. Latrell had a $650k contract from the roosters. Aloia had a $450k contract from the tigers. Both left for more money elsewhere. Why did Tino leave Melbourne to join the Titans?? There would be a hundred examples of players leaving for all sorts of reasons in the nrl in the last 2 years.

I think it’s fair to say they were playing for their coach given their performances.

As for who’s left, I don’t care, but why are the ones who stayed playing so garbage? Why can’t he get them playing well? Why are we getting worse? He’s the one constant

If you truly believe there aren’t times players give up on coaches, then you are naive. Remember Ponga’s comment after Nathan Brown was sacked? Players have so much power. They aren’t the ones getting sacked. Arguing about pride is a very simplistic view. They earn hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Pride is pretty low on their priority list.

When you re-sign, select, support and defend a player like Luke Brooks you tie yourself to his fortunes.

The coach will go down with the ship.

He never should have re-signed him and all this negatively Maguire is copping now is his own stupid fault.

Don’t stop at Brooks. Currently, 2 of our rejects are in the starting 17 for one of the premiership heavyweights (Momo and Huth), while we have bums like Garner and BJ. And yes, even Benji. He’s running around in another top 4 side. “But but his defence sucked”. Well lucky we got rid of him then, cos it’s so much better without him.

Benji emphasises my point. He was released because the coach was all in on Brooks
