**Thats right. Always someone else fault. This time it was the guy who filmed it.**
So lets get back to the original issue. It wasnt the privacy of his own home or a friends barbecue. It was someone else home whom he had apparently been invited into , initially. This means he was a guest and should at least behave with some dignity and respect.

He forced himself physically onto a female who was not interested in his advances.

He urinated on the lounge, someone elses property and then had to be repeatedly asked to leave. And dry humped the dog for good measure.

Youre right, it was the camera mans fault, not the guy who is paid good money by a club, sponsors and fans to behave like a human on and off the field….

Oh, and a guy who has been chosen by that club to be a leader and set an example for younger players, AND ACCEPTED THAT POSITION AND ALL THAT COMES WITH IT.

Who is saying this?

You haven't seen the posts or news feeds about how this camerman 'sold' his video and that was wrong and immoral, or how this is wrong to share the video because it was in private etc etc? Some definitely trying to set up a case for shared blame. Me thinks not.

I don't know why you put sold in quotation marks.
The video was sold.
Yes I've seen these comments…. I think it's a separate issue.
I guess you have no problem being filmed without your knowledge.
Just because someone might have an issue with filming and privacy... That doesn't mean they condone the actions of Mitch pearce

Matty John's summed it up when he said :
"There's embarrassment, there's pain, there's all those obvious things but the greatest hurt is what it does to your family… the pain that you see it causes them, that's just unbelievable," said Matty.

Mitchell needs to admit he needs help , if he can't admit that there was nothing wrong with what his done ? then you have no chance of rectifying yourself and changing to become a better

Matthew Johns is now an expert on dishing out advice on how a professional sportsman should behave? He should just count his lucky stars that mobile phone footage wasn't captured of him and his mates years ago in the hotel room in NZ. A quick little brown-nose trip to Broome to win back his missus probably wouldn't have been his only worry if it was.
Can't stand Matt Johns he is an arrogant walloper who thinks he is a respected authority on everything these days.

I don't know how $50K isn't a decent hurt, don't care what his total wage is, that's still a heft hunk of money.

Its been reported his wage is $750.000 a season. So $50.000 is pocket change for him.

Do you really believe monetary fines imposed by clubs to the 'gods of their teams' is ever paid by the said player?

No matter who pays it…It's still pocket change.

im sure everyone on this forum has been on the drink and done things they have regretted.

whats disturbing is the use of social media in this instance.if he was with mates they should have looked after him,not celebrated the dumb things he did.

if the roosters and or n.r.l. dont sack him,it will sabotage any womens perspective or responsible drinking platform that the n.r.l. would want to stand for.

how powerful in the scheme of things are the sydney roosters. It will be unjust to carney, mcguiness,
field etc if pearce is given a mamby pamby sentence.

Yeah right on….it's true though there all Psychiatrist now  .

He only made it cause of his Reg Reagan Days and grabbed the audience that way , but as far as football knowledge goes ? ain't much better than mine.

As for Matty he would want to hope that his turned the corner himself cause as for his wife Trish to hang around after that ? she has no Morals....each to there own i suppose.

I agree Supercoach with -"how many chances do you give a mug"

The penalties given to date for "bringing the game into disrepute" do not seem to have acted as any type of deterrent to players that have been caught doing the wrong the thing or to others, as players are still doing the wrong thing. Not everyone of course, just a few "ratbags" that think "the game owes them a living" or that "they are above the game."

Yes, we know they have a problem and they need help, but…. Unless they are penalised severely and others can see that if they do the wrong thing, they will not get away with it - this sort of thing will continue.

No fines - that is useless. I would give them plenty of time to sort themselves out, and point them in the right direction for help. That is what they need.

What the NRL needs is a "ratbag" free zone - the games name is not getting better. It seems to be one step forward and two back. It is no good of running "Women in League", wearing pink jumpers etc, then have the "Big put down" (Thanks Mitchell) splashed all over the TV screen and the newspapers. Makes the "Greatest game of all" look like a total joke. Women also need to be treated properly - not as objects or second class citizens as these "peabrains" think they can do.

RL just needs this, turning young players and their parents off staying with the game - you just need these "Peanuts" representing, NSW, Queensland or Australia an making a Holy show of us.

Time to get tough - Ban him for life and any other "Ratbag" that brings the game into disrepute. He has had enough chances.

What Pearce has done, although relatively harmless his actions were, has made the NRL a laughing stock once again and damaged its reputation massively. As a person living interstate the local media is absolutely loathe to give the game of rugby league any coverage or publicity whatsoever. This State's paranoia about any sport except for Aussie Rules being promoted is bordering on pathetic and childish IMO….if you are a casual sports fan you would be hard-pressed to even know when the NRL GF has been played over here.
Yet on Thursday morning I was flicking through the channels on the radio and the 3 major FM stations over here all were talking about this incident (how pathetic and embarrassing NRL players are etc etc), taking TalkBack callers who were all having the time of their lives putting the boot into the NRL. That sort of saturation coverage of anything bar Aussie Rules in this State is absolutely as rare as Sterlo parting his hair.

On that same morning it was announced that the first ever RL Test between the Aussies and NZ was being played here in October, I did not hear that fantastic, exciting and historic news mentioned whatsoever by any of the media. It had my blood boiling that 1 freakin idiot had derailed what was a breakthrough development of the great sport of RL over here.

Now if that is not the biggest example of 'bringing the game into disrepute' I don't know what is. Mitchell Pearce needs a massive kick up the arse by the NRL powers that be for his stupidity

This truely validates that "people must be held responsible for their own actions"…its to easy to shift the blame with excuses time and time again...

Good ol' Mitch got a little bit teary during his apology I see…....that will be enough to see him get off with a slap on the wrist from the Rorters and the NRL no doubt. Pathetic apologies are always a joy to watch.

Couldnt agree more, Ink. But i dont think it lessens the issue with Pearce just because another person has done something questionable.

I dont have a problem with being filmed without my knowledge by the way. If someone takes delight out of looking at me scratching my nuts and eating doritos as i lay on the lounge, then that says more about them. But, outside the security of my own home, if i was earning 500K a year, as the captain of a prominent NRL club and a public figure, then i might choose to do it differently. In my previous employment, if I did what Mitchell Pearce did, i would expect trouble and my employment would have been terminated. So i chose carefully what i did and where. …...and i wasnt a public figure or on that pay scale.

The biggest issue here is a modern society one in that a person , filmed without their consent, should own the video unless they give express permission for the shutterbug to use it, it's bordering on invasion of privacy, this post in no way supports Mitch Pearces actions

Social media for all its upside certainly has its downsides. Mitchell Pearce certainly did not want this particular video posted on social media but there are many videos/photos posted on social media which depict the poster or their friends at least at the same crude level as in the Pearce video. The difference however is that these photos/videos are sanctioned by the person depicted in the photo/video. The problem is that there is still no watchdog on social media to prevent these crude postings and they will persist until some watchdog governance is installed.

Now I have time to reflect on Pearce I feel the NRL and his club should not desert him. I hate to hear he has done something real stupid.

My solution as follows;

One year ban, contact not honoured this year, Rehab about alcohol abuse and has to get a real job for 12 months. (like Jake Friend did).

In 2017 he can come back and play as long as all measures have been meet by an independent panel.

If he offends again then automatic termination of his contact and banned for life.

The apology was pathetic. No feeling behind it. It sounded like an apology you give, when you are only sorry you got caught, acting like a drunken idiot again. An apology is not worth anything, unless you mean it. The fact that he had to keep looking down, to read what it said tells me that it didnt come from the heart. I could be wrong. I hope he learns from this and stays sober from now on.

If Roosters don't do something like this it will be a clear sign that all they are worried about is winning a premiership to the exclusion of helping one of their player,s i.e. a 100% materialstic focus.
