OFFICIAL BOXING DISCUSSION

Flasy boxers arent fighters… What a joke!
you only have to look at his record and watch some of the knock outs that he has produced to know that he is a GREAT fighter. Although Roy Jones may have gone down quicly to Danny Green he is still one of the best (if not the best) fighters of all time for his weight devision.

Anyone who is interested can watch the whole danny green vs roy jones jr match here, including the entrances and celebrations:

The guys I have been talking to about this fight have been positive it is at Light Middleweight but I have not checked it out myself. There is much discussion on Mundines lack of power at Middleweight let alone going down again

Some people think just becuase Mundine is quick he doesn't have power in his punches but his punches are more powerful than some people think.

People say he lost to Mundine because of the weight drain, i think thats a load of crap. Green had been fighting at that weight his whole career, so to use that as an excuse all of a sudden doesnt wash with me. It was just that at that time Mundine was a better fighter than Green, simple.

Exactly. Green only lost about 6 pounds didn't he??? So what's that in kg? 2-3 kgs? BIG DEAL

Its difficult in boxing to fight below your natural weight class. 2 - 3 kilos can make a huge difference. People don't appreciate the kind of hell boxers go through to make the weight and the physical drain it can take on your body and what kind of shape it can leave you in before a fight.

It hasn't stopped Mundine winning titles at different weights.

But then again he is better than Green :sunglasses:

Good for him. But I made no mention of Green, or Mundine. Was just pointing out something for you… and for the record, Mundine has won one genuine world title, and it was vacant at the time.

Anyone been watching the aussie contender?

Im right into it, but gee the judging has been a disgrace. Victor Oganov was beaten with ease by Junior Talipau but they gave it to the Russian. I also thought Hamden lost to Piper and Josh lost to Israel, but all the name fighters got the nod. Its a dead set rort.

Also, Nader Hamden adn Victor have come across as the biggest wankers in the sport.

I know of one guy who is in the final, but if the rumour about his opponant is true, then its a pretty poor final.

Yeah I've been watching it. The fights are annoying as hell though. They just give you highlights with lame punching sound effects lobbed in and lots of slow motion. I suppose they're trying to net casual viewers too. There's some nice personal stories and struggles in there. I've watched some of the full fights online and you're right, Junior, Israel and Les should still be in it.

Lets be honest, none of these blokes would trouble Choc at all. Briggs should hang up the pads and belt them all and earn a shot at Mundine lol. I think a few years ago the two of them were in the early stages of working towards a fight, sometime after Adamek when Briggs wanted to move down a division or two.. but all those horrible injuries forced Paul out of the game.

Highlight of the series so far was Paul threatening to KO sonni. Didn't Geale smash him a couple of years back?

You know who makes me ANGRY **Jungle Boy** hope he cops a flogging he cant keep his mouth shut! Yes i thought alot of the fights have been judged unfairly PiPer and Junior deserve to be there still there. I dont know if any of the guys left would stand a chance against Mundine, i would be happy to be proven wrong thow

Darchinyan stops Rojas in second round

Vic Darchinyan will embark on a revenge mission after destroying Mexico's Tomas Rojas in the second round of their super flyweight world-title fight in California on Saturday.

The WBA and WBC champion fired a powerful left hand to Rojas' chin that left the Mexican flat on his back and unable to get up.

Minutes after the devastating win at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, outside Los Angeles, Darchinyan revealed his plan to avenge the two losses that blight his stellar 36-fight professional record.
"I want rematches," announced Darchinyan, who was cheered at the casino by a large contingent of Australian supporters, including IBO world cruiserweight champion Danny Green.

First up on Darchinyan's revenge list is The Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire, who scored a surprise fifth-round technical knockout over Darchinyan in Connecticut in 2007.
Then Darchinyan wants a rematch with Ghana's Joseph King Kong Agbeko.

Agbeko also was a surprise victor when Darchinyan stepped up a weight division to fight the African for the IBF bantamweight world title in July.
"Every night when I sleep I am thinking about when I'll fight those guys," Darchinyan said.

"It is in my dreams."
Darchinyan's American promoter, Gary Shaw, confirmed he was working on a fight with the Filipino.

"We're going after Donaire," Shaw said.
Rojas became the most recent Mexican fighter to end up on the canvas after suffering at the hands of Darchinyan's punching power.

His high-profile countrymen Jorge Arce, Cristian Mijares and Victor Burgos were all hospitalised after losing to the Australian in recent years.
In the first round the taller, longer-limbed Rojas appeared as though he would live up to his bold prediction of taking away Darchinyan's WBC and WBA super-flyweight belts.

Rojas hit Darchinyan with some solid blows, but the Australian said he was just patiently watching for weaknesses in Rojas' armour.
Darchinyan noticed when he threw his lethal left hand Rojas would instinctively duck.

With the clock winding down in the second round Darchinyan launched four successive left hands.
After the third a cocky Rojas egged Darchinyan to throw one more.

Darchinyan did, hitting Rojas on the chin and sending him to the canvas.
"He was confident because he hit me with a couple of good ones," Darchinyan said.

"I knew because he saw my left coming straight he'd try to duck it.
"I didn't go for his head.

"I went for his chest and hit his chin."
The win gives Darchinyan a professional record of 33 wins (27 knockout), two losses and a draw.

It was also a victorious night for rising Australian lightweight Leonardo Zappavigna who beat American Sergio Macias with a unanimous points decision.

The undercard fight was 22-year-old undefeated Zappavigna's US debut and his 22nd professional win.

Just saw the highlights of that bout and both fighters looked a bit unruly in throwing punches everywhere. Vic threw a few wild ones which didn't land anywhere near the mark but the punch that floored the Mexican was a beauty.

I started off really looking forward to the contender but the losses against Les and Junior were very poor. Hell I think on points scored properly Pradeep takes out Jungle Boy in the first bout.

To me it seems all a setup for Mundines good friend Nader to get a decent payday before retiring

Have you all noticed Roy Jones Jr whining about his ass whooping?
Typical loser that Mundine tends to hang around….

Does Anthony Mundine fight next week.??If so who is his opponent and is he an Aussie, what is his background like
anyone know….

I just read an article on the SMH where Mundine was comparing himself to Pacquiao.

In his words:

''I'm like Manny Pacquiao, I'm up there in the pound-for-pounders, and I will fight at any weight,'' Mundine said

I mean seriously I started out as such a big supporter but its like every time he opens his mouth his says somehting more stupid.

Pacquiao a p4p great in boxing history compared to someone who I doubt will rate highly in Australian boxing history.

I've got Anthony Mundine opponent Robert Medley. But on the main undercard Cowboy Carl Webb has his first pro.fight against Scott Lewis over 4x2 minute rounds.Scott has had 4 pro fight.Billy Johnstone is the trainer of Carl Webb.Interseting to see how Carl goes.He was a former junior golden gloves champ…....
