Brooks and Marsters redemption

They played well. Masters kicking was good, I think the turning point mentally in our team was when they gave him the penalty kick from out wide to level the score - after the kicking game he had last week shows how close the group is. Also Brooks defence, he made a big tackle with Jennings in the first half putting the boncos player in to touch.

I don’t think our coaching team are as close as the playing group. Watching on TV they panned to the coaches box and Madge was cheering like mad, he jumped to his feet and spun to his left looking for someone to cheer with and nothing, no else was on thier feet. 😂 poor Madge.

That was huge and was basically all Brooks, with Jennings providing little help.

I’m a Brooks fan. His defence has improved out of sight and he’s consistently a threat to actually win the contact against bigger second rowers. I like his running game but geez I wish he had a step that actually let him change directions at speed, rather than a stop and let the defence adjust before he can take off again. Kicking game was strong last night but he needs to improve his decision making on plays out the back. A couple of times he’s gone short when he needs to go long and vice versa, Mbye threw his hands up a few times.

All around great comeback from Esan though. Constant threat on the edge and showed plenty of character to nail the 2 from near enough to the sideline and get us in front.

One thing I would like to see Marsters does not do, are shuffle steps just before he starts running.
He would be more effective if he starts running straight, and eventually steps at speed, just before the contact.

Great effort by both. We need to play deeper and more direct in attack.

I wish someone would stop the dummy half running sideways after he picks up the ball

lets see if Brooks can actually be consistent though. Because that's what we all really want to see from him.

I still have my doubts.

Good to see people putting their hands up. I’m certainly not above making idiotic predictions, but some of the talk surrounding Brooks last week was out and out trash. Predicting the club is going to move him on, because a few supporters think that’s what the club should do. He’s here for the long haul, and will likely finish his career having played the most games for this club.

As for Marsters, his kicking last week was one of the reasons we lost. But i’m glad I wasn’t too hard on him, knowing he was carrying an injury. Just goes to show ordinary how Mbye must be striking them if Marsters was still the preferred option. I’m glad he hit back the other night. Talk of him being dropped was ridiculous. He’s the best young player this club has produced since Tedesco.

I think criticism of Brooks has been fair.
Always acknowledge when he goes well but not going to make excuses and blame everyone around him after 5 seasons of FG footy when he doesnt play well. More of Thursday night and we will all be happy.

I think we all need to realise that Brooks will never be a Cronk or a Johns. He doesn't have the personality to 'take charge' in the same way as those 2 great players did (do). However, when he runs the ball he is very, very, good. His kicking game is OK and his defence is pretty sound. He is our long term option at half back and for all of his shortcomings, he is a pretty decent half back. I like the guy.

Agree Brooks has had a slow start to the season. His defence has been good but we have needed more out of his attack and running game. Against the Broncos he ran for over 150 meters and was constantly threatening. Making the Broncos defensive line speed stop and become disjointed. Grub and Brooks have been good together.
Last year Brooks was consistent from game one. This year not so. Hopefully he has turned to corner.

I wonder if last week Brooks was concerned about Reynolds decision making late in a set if he runs and gets tackled ….

Anyway good performance by both and my condolensces to the Brooks family with their loss
