Brooks & Moses on the way out..?

What these 2 have done so far has been impressive , to have 2 rookie halves is basically unknown in league… normally there would be a least one of the halves that was seasoned ..but they will have to be an improvement next season.

Statistically Brooks is already in the top 5-6 attacking half-backs in the comp. That's with a limp team around him, a coaching merry go round, and negative coaching tactics. Defence needs work sure, like all young players, but many people greatly exaggerate how poor they were to suit their own bias.

Completely agree, the kid plays behind a beaten forward pack most weeks. Give him and Moses a platform to work off and then we can actually judge him.

According to page 63 of today's Daily Telegraph Te Maire Martin is making a big noise in Penrith pre-season training and Matt Moylan expects him to be pushing Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace for a start in Penrith first grade,

Sometimes I think that Luke Brooks is very similar to Phil Blake.
Massive talent, but for some reason not able to achieve full potential at the moment.

Could the weight of expectation be a hinderance :bulb: ?

Lack of an experience halves partner as well I think.

Brooks and Moses are learning the trade together. We've handed a couple of apprentices the plans to the job and asked them to put in a tradesman's performance.

If the pack lays a platform for them they will fare a lot better than last year. No half plays at their best with no time for decision making.

I thought Moses improved as the year went on.

I think they will both come good,But MM could be a standout!

They always talk up the team at pre-season, I wouldn't take much out of that.

I assume TMM will get a run in the 9s, so let's have another look at him then - Panthers are in our pool.

Panthers then have Dogs and Eels in the trials. If TMM doesn't get much of a run for those, it will tell you for sure that he starts in NSW Cup.

I would have little expectation of TMM dislodging Soward/Wallace at this early stage in his career, and if one of them was to go, I would expect Moylan to be first to move into the halves, leaving fullback open for DWZ.

And if TMM does get game time against us, I'd throw every large body available right at him. He's still such a skinny fellow.

Agree. At this stage of his career TMM has nowhere near the tackling ability of Wallace or Soward for that matter.

I agree as well - plus, I don't think he has the tackling ability of our two.
Wouldn't tackle his way out of a wet paper bag at this stage.

Panthers and Dragons chasing Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks for 2017
JAMES HOOPER The Daily Telegraph December 12, 2015 9:00PM SHARE

ROOKIE Wests Tigers playmakers Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses are currently being shopped around to rival clubs, with the Penrith Panthers and St George Illawarra both expressing interest in signing the duo for 2017.

The situation underlines the way the NRL contract system has evolved into an all-year round business of players switching clubs and clubs trading stars, with signed deals often no longer worth the paper they are written on.

Already this off -season we’ve seen Sam Burgess return to the NRL despite two years to run on an England Rugby Football Union contract and New Zealand international Martin Tapau defect to Manly irrespective of a deal with Wests until the end of 2016.
\
\
Then there’s Dylan Walker requesting a release from the final year of his deal at Souths and the farcical Robbie Farah situation where the Tigers have performed an embarrassing backflip on attempting to kick the club icon out of Concord.

Farah’s current contract was supposed to run until the end of 2017\. Instead, coach Jason Taylor told him he was free to walk and even guaranteed he’d get his money.

At this time of the year, NRL clubs are no longer working on who is off-contract at the end of 2016, they are angling at the 2017 list of stars.

That’s players who are off-contract two years in advance. What clubs look for is multi-layered; they start by identifying talent in the positions where they are weaker, work through the options, identify clubs who may be about to feel the pinch of salary cap pressure and then make their plays.

By the same token, clubs are looking to off-load unwanted players to ensure they can land the big-name signings they desire and still fit within the salary cap.

The Manly Sea Eagles remain adamant they will still be inside the $7.5 million salary cap even if they can secure the services of Walker from South Sydney.

The Sea Eagles are most certainly looking to offload some contracted players, with the Penrith Panthers also having explored moving on one big-name star.

Tigers young guns Brooks and Moses are clearly getting edgy at Concord, with the duo being granted an extension until the middle of June rather than January 18 to exercise an option informing the club whether they will commit to Wests for 2017.

It’s a fascinating move from both rookies, especially considering it is being reported if they trigger the final year of their contracts with the Tigers, they will each pocket $600,000 for 2017.

Despite the riches on offer, the duo’s agent is still canvassing options. Moses met with the Penrith club last week, while Brooks is said to be another playmaker the Panthers are seriously targeting.

The 2017 off-contract list is an extremely strong line-up, containing names like Shaun Johnson, Josh Dugan, Blake Ferguson, Will Chambers, Darius Boyd, Gareth Widdop, Ben Hunt, Aaron Woods and Andrew McCullough.

With the NRL’s current broadcast deal set to expire at the end of 2017, it’s beneficial for emerging stars to be finishing contracts due to the anticipated increase in revenue and the amount of money players are able to be paid.

Gus (via twitter) has already refuted the links to Penrith.
Also, the names mentioned in the penultimate paragraph are off contract after 2017, not after 2016, so not sure what relevance their names have to the rest of the article.
Another Hooper masterpiece, all in all.

That is the biggest load of crap i have read in my life, panthers have their halves set for the next ten years and are already spoilt for options. Martin, Cleary, Moylan, ZDC etc.

Dragons have Widdop who they wouldn't move on, their backline is also spoilt for options after signing Lafai. Marshall has been offered an extension already.

I don't be leave the two half's are being shopped around. What would be the logic?

My understanding is all the young guns are happy and if Robbie stops being a grumpy bastard around them then we might just go ok?

Darius Boyd….is Bennetts contract up then as well?

I've heard brooks and Moses were a little grumpy (the last I heard was a week or two before the camp), things may have simmered down now. But what I do know is brooks and Moses did extend their clause date till June because they were keen to see what was out there as they both think it's beneficial to investigate what it would be like working with experienced halves already in a team and they want to try stay together. I know brooks had a meeting witb melbourne a week before the camp but I don't know what happined with the meeting or the outcome of it.

Our Club has put all there eggs in the one basket with these 2\. Some on here are adamant there not going anywhere….but I'm not so sure. If they do go elsewhere? We have wasted our precious time and have lost Blake Austin and Te Marie Martin in hope that Brooks and Moses become the real deal.....for me there way of pace, but i blame alot of it to how Jason Taylor has played them.
Anyway the reported $600,000 for them is massive and at this moment in time are not worth that for 2017.
$1.2 Million is massive money for these 2 guys and if they go? with that money I reckon we can get a very experienced half or 5/8th for $800,000 a year and find a partner for $400,000 per year.
Example....James Maloney for $700,000 and maybe Blake Green from the Storm for $500,000 per year

If Brooks and Moses wanted to play with experienced halves they would have to split and that isn't going to happen.

I can see them both going to melbourne to play under Bellamy, Cronk is apparently leaving at the end of this year and this leaves them without halves.

The idea of playing under Bellamy and behind a solid pack is enticing, they might even lure Tedesco and its the big 3 all over, who knows.

If we have a poor first half of the season I am sure they will be tempted to jump ship and head to a club that has a winning culture, On the other hand a good first half to the season mixed with the likely hood of some quality signings for 2017 could see them put pen to paper and extend their current deals. The old saying winning clubs are happy clubs and loosing clubs are unhappy clubs

The thing is I think they have to perform if we are to become a winning club. If they both fire then we will have a good season. If they don't I fail to see how they are worth so much more at other clubs.
