Brooks & Moses on the way out..?

Clubs change their mind all the time( that's obvious)
Players are entitled to do the same, manly signed Ballin.
Then wanted to dump him a matter of weeks later, there's disloyalty for you

Luke Brooks for every try he creates….gets 2 against us as his nothing but a turnstile in defence.

Just on this - 70% of the halves in the NRL are poor defensively, it's just that better sides cover them more efficiently.
Maloney has been one of the worst defensive players in NRL for years, and yet the Roosters managed to overcome this and be the best defensive team around over a period of years.

Brooks definitely has some technique issues, but he's a small, young guy playing with very little defensive support around him.

Maybe so….but not 70 % though, look at players like Hodgkinson , Thurston , Pearce , Cronk , Cherry Evans , Widdop all fantastic defenders.

A $600,000 halfback needs to tackle to justify this price tag IMO.

On the face of it, if Moses leaves us in the lurch after getting rid of Austin and Martin to give him the rails run at 5/8, that would reek of disloyalty.

I then remember that we are dealing with newspaper reports with no direct quotes, no substantiated fact, and no suggestion that the player himself has said any of this.

Best thing we can all do is stop believing the garbage that the newspapers are throwing around, and wait for either the club or the players to make a statement. Will make life much more enjoyable for everyone.

I don't know whether they'll sign with us again, but where does the "disloyalty "bit come in. They owe loyalty to the club, for only as long as their contract is for. After that, the only thing to consider is their own futures. They have probably seen by now that for anyone to show loyalty to a football club is Wasting their time , as most clubs will dump a player whenever it's convenient for the club.
The minute a players contract runs out, he has to think of his own welfare, because the club sure as hell won't worry about it later.
Even though I think they are limited as halves, I hope they do as well as they can wherever they play.

this is true but …... the worlds have changed where now players / managers are worried well before their contracts end.
thats part in parcel of why the everyone in the game is becoming more and more disenchanted.
how can players act or believe the club has their best interest at heat when they openly show absolute disloyalty towards other players / team mates.
"if they could do that to him - they can do that to me"

and then - all best are off.

As long as they still put the effort in for their club , it's fine to be looking around for when their contract ends. One of the reasons that they are worried before their contract ends , is because no player now knows if they will be where they have planned to be at any time.
As clubs will change their mind whenever they feel like it.
That's why I would love to see a rule change to make clubs and players stay put until the contract runs out. Simply by making the players cap value stay with his contracted club ( even if he does leave or is dumped ) until the end of his original contract, would stop the practise straight away.

Brisbane won a premiership with Shane Perry, those guys only have to be above average for us to win the big dance.

You can get away with Shane Perry when you have Darren Lockyer next to him. Hard to win a comp without at least one of your halves being an elite player.

Souths won it with Reynolds and Keary, a pair of kids not yet hit their potential.

Point is if they're a fit for the team around them they don't have to be world beaters. Our premiers are far superior to the SuperLeague premiers and they always get beat in the World Club Challenge (even taking into account the time of year, travel etc.)

Some of those, yes.
Thurston is very average defensively.

Imo Reynolds was streaks ahead of our 2 last yr. He had a great yr, which also helps when you have guys like the Burgess' and Ben Teo steamrolling everyone in their path. It was Reynolds 3rd full yr in the top grade. Next yr, it will be these 2's 3rd yr, and they are light yrs away from where Reynolds was at the same stage.

I have a mate Who has insiders at St George. He has SMS me to say that Brooks management has approached The Dragons. If they don't resign Benji, they are going to offer Brooks $2M over 3 years.

I thought his contract with us would be 600k in 2017, so it does not seem to be a huge improvement unless there is a TPA ie house somewhere.

Can't see Brooks going anywhere without Moses and Saints simply cannot afford both. They are rumoured to have serious cap issues too . Word down here (the Gong) is Benji will play one more year of NRL and end his career in SL

Darren Lockyer was an ordinary defender too and had a permanent minder ( Toni Carroll ) next to him at all times yet Lockyer gets talked about as a future immortal .
