I am convinced some of you shut your eyes everytime Woods gets the ball cause you cant be watching if you dont see that he is by far away our best forward in terms of making metres every week. He also has some great touches with the ball a couple of rippers ithe on Sat night one that led to a try..
Defensively he doesn't hit with the impact of JWH but we demand alot more game time of him.

Mate I'm pretty sure that there's only about 4 of us on here who actually appreciate Woods and the huge contribution he makes every single week and that's bloody sad, considering all that he has done, and continues to do, for this club. Calling him ridiculous names like captain pea heart and powderpuff is beyond insulting, especially coming from keyboard warriors, who have probably never even laced on a boot!

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? Always ready and waiting to cut someone down when they don't measure up to _your_ idea of how they should be playing the game. Doesn't matter how effective they actually are on the field, NOooo… they're not aggressive enough or not mongrel enough, or not enough of this or not enough of that, or they need a haircut...for God's sake give it a rest!

You don't know when you've got a good thing - if James Graham is soooo much better than Aaron Woods, then why is a successful club like Canterbury looking to offload him so they can free up space to sign Woods? Why wouldn't they just keep Graham and forget about signing Woods if Graham is that much better?

My beef with Woods is his asking price, I don't want to throw 8 or 900 grand at a prop, and I think he has had long enough to think it over, we should set a deadline of Friday or pull the offer.

We are not…750K ...600K under the cap with 150K Club affiliated TPA under the Marquee player allowance is the revised offer on the table...

Cheers Geo, at $600k under the cap I will cop, but how long do you wait for him to decide.

Cleary wants him. Des and now Trent Robinson want him - coaches with two of the best forward packs in the comp - pretty good judges of current players..

Fans of this club continually turn on their own at any opportunity seems like Woods is the latest in firing line now.

As for the "pea heart" reference - if you were looking for a low blow that would be it. Embarrassing.

I think what is misinterpreted here is not that woods isn't wanted it's that we are looking at things from a money ball perspective.
The club had everything backwards in its initial approach believing that melbourne built a club and it's culture around smith slater and cronk. Completely incorrect, the culture was already established long before they arrived by having a team of hardened, not overly skillful but committed workers such as Kimorley, Hill, Ross and Lazarus.
The 'BIG 3' kids started to fit into that mould. But not at bank breaking prices. They were smartly scouted and blooded gradually 2002, 2003 and 2004 into an already established hard working and we'll respected culture, what followed was completely their doing, but their progression in first grade was eased by the success of the team around them.
We as a club made every attempt to remove any trace of our previous winning culture by riding the club of all of the members from 2005\. Whilst a change was needed, banking your success by giving 4 kids the keys to the club and payinb them as such was always going to end up a failure.
In regards to woods, it needs to be money well spent, and I can see value of the 2 for 1 option in releasing a player like woods.
I think a desicion needed to be made a long time ago to play him at Lock.
Had this had happened, we would have always have had 2 punchy forwards barging their way through the middle and woods to follow through takeing advantage of the tired forwards.
Shame it never happened.
Probaby will at the Bulldogs though.

Well with the Coaching decision decided - one of Woods concerns- and the revised offer only tabled just over a week ago after Cleary's review …No deadline has been set but given Ivan's comments post the Cowboys game..I would expect within the next 2 weeks either way..

I'd prefer matulino packer vete over woods.

Agree Matulino SG, don't rate Packer (don't like his history either), and have never seen Vete play but going on yourself and others who have he maybe an alternative to Grant.

It's a big decision 851, especially considering the checkered history of our club. I imagine Woods & Tedesco are not really thinking about the money so much (because the offers are pretty much on a par), but whether the Wests Tigers will actually ever be a successful club.

Sure Cleary has come in with tough talk and big promises of it all turning around…get on the bus and blah, blah, but I'm sure they've heard it all before. They obviously love the club and that is why it's such a hard decision for them to make, but those 2 guys, more than anyone else in the team, deserve premiership success and unfortunately there are no guarantees of that with Wests Tigers.

Agree Flip - they'll be aware of what they had after they have lost it.

He's a beauty!

Heaps of good points here. We bet on juniors but there is a proviso that they have to stay for fair money. Our juniors appear to want overs or they will go. Woods is a good player but we have to develop a culture of players being replaceable and for crazy amounts of money he is definitely replaceable.

For the $600k cap value mentioned on here I'd like him to stay. We shouldn't offer any more than that though.

It's a good point about Woods playing lock and not being a prop forward who dents the line. This is why he isn't worth crazy amounts of money.

No guarantees of premierships anywhere else either.

From my line of work I just look at things from a numbers point of view. I don't get emotionally attached and what I'm saying is that woods isn't worth more than 500k to the cap. He will obviously get a bit more because he's captain of the team. But the only people stupider then the Tigers here is the other teams offering the 900k+

Those other teams have a history of developing strong squads we on the other hand have a poor track record of attracting quality players Im not sure we are in a position to call them stupid.

So, we've offered them both 4 years haven't we and decent money too?

Part of them must want to stay…..........are they waiting to see if we win games or something? What other reason could there be for this feet dragging garbage. It all could have been sorted ages ago.

I guess not, but certain clubs tend to at least be in contention for it more regularly than others. The thrill of actually being in the running for a comp would be something these guys haven't yet experienced and would no doubt love to.

Then the tigers will not disappoint

THIS^

Then again, what have the big 4 learned recently. Basically that an origin hooker and club life member can be turned out on his arse for money and team structure. Whatever you think of this decision, good or bad, it has taught Tedesco, Brooks and Woods that the game is about money first and foremost. I think Moses knows this well.

If the Farah saga had been handled better then I suspect that the big 4 question would be easier. Although for some unknown reason Moses and Brooks just keep getting linked with the word "talent" and we pay ridiculous overs to keep them. Des seemed to have the right idea at Manly, punt the flashy halfbacks and keep the clubmen.

No mate, not at all, but I can understand why they are deliberating for so long. The club has had a culture of turmoil & mediocrity for practically the whole of its existence - you know that, it's been a real bugbear for us all on here. I can understand if our marquee players would like to try their luck elsewhere, after toughing it out here for several years and getting nowhere. Rugby League isn't a game they can play until they're 65 and then retire with a gold watch. They only have a short time frame in which to be successful.

One saying I like is this

Good players will play finals, great players will lead teams to finals. If Tedesco, Moses, woods are as great as they think they are then they should be able to lead this team to the finals.

But from what I can see, there is no leaders amongst those 3\. There's no Paul Gallen there, there's no shame webke, there's no cam smith, there's no Thurston, there's no James graham.

They don't seem to gel as a core, and that might be because they have never been held accountable. Woods rise to captain came from nowhere. He's not a leader on the field and he sure isn't one off it

And I'll add to my last comment with the fact that those 4 are such good mates that it probably makes it harder for one to take the bull by the horns and be that leader. Hence why I don't think it's a bad idea to split them up keep brooks and teddy, let the other 2 go. Bring in some strong players to compliment them and watch this team flourish
